  1. I think if you want a pure spring break party atmosphere and don't care too much about anything else, then go with Carnival. If you want a really nice ship with excellent food and superior service, go with Majesty. I would spend a little more $ to get a Deck 9 OV stateroom. For a little more $ you get a very spacious stateroom.

Carnival doesn't have anymore of a Spring Break atmosphere than any other cruise line does. For a 5 day to a 4 day, the party would be about the same. I've been on both, and can tell you that I found them comparable in all aspects, regardless of your opinion. And the steakhouse on Carnival beats Chops hands down. That said. If one of your party is not a drinker, than RCCL would be a better choice as the Cheer's option is great, but pricey if you don't drink.

  2. We are having engine trouble. Not making it to St Thomas.

Oh please don't say that. We're on the Splendor on 03/26 and we have an amazing excursion booked in St. Thomas... :o (sorry.. that sounds really selfish. I hope you all get to everything else!!)

  3. That's awesome!!! Very lucky. I don't think I could do an interior room. I can get claustrophobic! [emoji23] I really should have held out for that balcony room. I looked and for $250 more I could book one now. But I want to see if I can get an upgrade for a less. I put a call into my TA but not sure if they can do anything.

I get claustrophobic pretty easy, and I haven't had an issue with an interior, but I totally get it! And it might be too early, especially if you are looking at a ship with open cabins. You might just have to go ahead and get your balcony. ;)

Are there many sugar free options? Also the Guy Burger Join, does it do Protein (lettuce wrapped) burgers? And what are the free drinks Carnival offers? I noticed they took away juice... so it's water and milk? coffee? Any other suggestions as to what other food options a person who has had Bariatric surgery should have?

As a Type 1 Diabetic, I always watch everything I eat and am very aware of intake. So I understand at least in part. Yes, there are sugar-free desserts, but even I don't usually eat those, mainly because I've never been able to figure out the carb count on them (it's easier on the other desserts oddly). I usually stick with the fruit and cheese. I believe if you talk to the Maitre-D, they will be able to work with you. Also, 6 small meals have always worked better for me than 3 large, and I believe that's one of the options your doctor will talk to you about. I used to carry a carb book with me for easy reference. Your dietitian should be able to help you with this.

Again I know the risks, and I figured at the rate my health is declining whilst I am somewhat overweight, I might as well take the chance of trying to make a healthier change. And it'll make walking on my treadmill a hell of a lot easier! :D

    Good for you!

  5. I have 4 ports and the suite and the spa left to cover and then I think that is it. Going to see if I can figure out how to get some pics on here but I will be back! Thanks everyone for reading and for the positive words. I DO love Carnival. I love the value for my money for sure. But I am not a cheerleader for them. I think that there are areas they can improve. BUT, my family is really easy going so we figure the worst day on vacation is better than the best day at work. I've got a lot of information about our ports but sadly, the boss is acting like he wants me to work or something so I will have to sign off for now :/

You are cracking me up! I love your review. My 14 y/o son and I are leaving in 51 days on the Splendor, so I'm really enjoying this.

Also, yay Missouri! I'm from CoMo. :)

  6. OP, I have cruised alone with my young son too, also 14 (no divorce but hubs just doesn't like cruises) and we always eat in the steakhouse. We ate there the first night - for the half price wine [emoji41] - and my boy wore khaki PANTS and a polo. No one batted an eye, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Hope you have a wonderful time!

Perfect! And what a great picture. Thank you!!

  7. To be on the safe side you should rent him a tux...kidding. He'll be fine. You ought to see how some dress for Elegant Night.

He would absolutely die. Getting him in his concert uniform takes an hour. And it's just black slacks and a button-up shirt with a tie. Dear God. ;)

  8. We took our daughter when she was 13 and she LOVED it! He is plenty old enough to enjoy it, especially if he's a "foodie".

We're going on our first night in June, too.:D:D

    Cannot wait!!!!

Enjoy your cruise with your son!! Sounds like you completely deserve it!:D

He claims to be a foodie. I just think he's picky. ;)

We're really excited. He's a very quiet kiddo, doesn't show emotion at all, but has promised I will get some full smiles!!

  9. Could be, but doesn't really matter, posted dress code according to Carnival says the code is the same as the MDR except that no shorts are allowed. Therefore polo shirt and khaki pants should be fine.

He will be ecstatic you said that. Except he'll tell me that khaki shorts and khaki pants are the same, just shorter. But on the off chance he doesn't need to wear a tie, he may be fine with it.

  10. My son and I will be on the Splendor starting 3/26. The cruise itself is kind of a post-divorce vacation, as it was pretty rough on both of us. My son is 14 y/o. He's extremely polite, a bit of a foodie, and really just an amazing kid.

The steakhouse reservation is a birthday gift to me from my parents. They made the reservation for the first night. My biggest question is, will my son need to dress up (shirt and tie rather than polo and khakis)? He's amazing.. but getting him to dress in something other than shorts and a t-shirt is a struggle half the time. My other question.. is it okay for "kids" in the steakhouse? I know that sounds odd.. but sometimes people find it uncomfortable.

    Thanks!!

  11. Hi all. I keep looking and looking, but I haven't seen a role call yet for this cruise. I know it's over spring break, but surely there will be other people on it? (wouldn't mind the ship to myself.. just saying)

About myself. It will be myself and my 14 y/o son on a vacation to recover from a bad divorce. I asked him what he would like to do, and he answered a cruise, so here we go!

    TIA!
