  1. I enjoy reading the reviews of coco cay.  We were there in Aug and really enjoyed it.  We are booked again Aug 2020 on the Independence.  We were able to book a Oasis Lagoon cabana for $350 for the previous trip and I doubt that I will see a price that low again. The current cabana prices are insane.  With one ship in port, Mariner, the island was not crowded at all except for water slides.   In the near future, 2 ships at Coco Cay will be the norm and 3 could be in the future, so I am not looking forward to that.   I do appreciate the 3-4 itineraries the RCCL offers, but I wish there was another option to Nassau.  That is on busy disappointing port.

  2. I hope we don’t miss KW.  I made lunch reservations at Santiago’s Bodega and planned on hanging out at Sloppy Joe’s until time to board.  Watch us be stuck in Nassau for multiple days.  This happened to us before during rough weather.

so if they close the Port, is it totally closed or are ships just not allowed to leave?  meaning, would we still be able to board the ship and just stay in port overnight until the storm passes?

If the port is to be closed then NCL will not dock at all, I am sure.  That is not where you want to ride out a storm.  Sometimes they extend the previous cruise a day or so until it is safe.  If that were to happen, we would be compensated some how.  I just hope the decision is made before I fly in.  NCL and Carnival seem to be holding off on any decisions until later in the week.  Heck, it could be Friday before we know.

im on this sail as well and it is indeed five nights.

we wont be rerouted, Dorian is supposed to hit PR on Friday.  we'll be fine especially given our first stop is key west.

My maps show the eye of the storm will be over Nassau Saturday afternoon.  At a minimum, it will be very rough seas.  All will depend on the timing if they choose to close the port of Miami before the storm hits.  It might steer east and cancel Key West for us.    We shall see.  My backup plan is Vegas

  5. I eat in the dining room most mornings and every night. We are khaki kind of people. I'm not lugging around a suit and tie on vacation. Really, it's not a big deal. Do what you are comfortable with. Maybe I look so good in khakis that I get a pass. ;)

  6. We snorkeled at Kona. The wife saw an Eagle Ray which she still talks about. While on Maui we drove Hanna one day and the other side the next. Mamma's Fish House is a must. (Expensive!) Stopped at a few beaches along the way. Reserve your car in advance. In Maui it's difficult to find a parking spot overnight near the ship since so many people rent cars, but we squeezed into a spot. On Kauai we drove to the cliff side until the dead end and then drove to the other end and explored the desert side. I did forget to mention that we did book the helicopter volcano tour on Hilo. Lava Jack's house was still there at the time. The lava won in 2012. It was a fantastic time for my 40th bday. It was just the wife and I, but we want to take the kids one day. It's soooo expensive though.

  7. We did this cruise in 2011. Hawaii is great and this cruise provides a way to island hop. We rented a car for both Maui days and one day of Kauai. We enjoyed exploring on our own. The only excursion we used NCL for was the ditch tubing on Kauai. I would do that again in a heartbeat. I would not pay for specialty dining again. The food was subpar and the cruise is already pricey. The food overall on the ship is not as good as the other ships. People tell me it's the American staff. Overall it's a great way to explore Hawaii.
