If you wrote down your bids you can tell from the amount your CC is charged which category you won. Usually long before you get the official word from NCL. Or do you already know the category and are waiting for the actual cabin number?

I only bid on a balcony.  I had an interior so anything was an improvement, well almost anything.  I now have my room assignment.  Not the best balcony but I am sure looking forward to it.

For those keeping track I bid on the low side of the scale.

There is a definite pattern to the upgrade announcements - Breakaway have been getting their emails on the Monday before their Sunday departure... then Encore, then Epic... maybe Bliss next... I am loving the excitment and anticipation... I have probably (based on my less then scientific analysis) 13 days to wait til I hear (or not)...

What is your take on the Dawn? Lol, I am not patiently waiting to see if I get my upgrade on the 12/8 Dawn.

  3. I am flying in sept 7 for a sept 8 cruise. I would like an inexpensive hotel for 2 with an airport shuttle. Any suggestions?

Also, when the ship returns on Sept 22 is getting a 10:45 am flight out of EWR easily doable. We do not have a lot of luggage. We can carry it off the ship ourselves.  Any thoughts on this?  I have never been into EWR so I do not know the size and how complicated an airport it is.

Thanks for any help and ideas.

  4. Just stayed at this hotel after cruising on the Paradise last week.  We had 12 people.  The trolley picks up just outside of the hotel and there is a trolley stop right at the port between the parking garage and the ships.  The hotel shuttle was also available and convenient.  I would not hesitate using either of these or both options.  Some on the shuttle and some on the trolley.  They trolley is free this year and was a fun ride.  It was virtually empty.

  5. The  one time we had a butler it was a big waste.  On the first or second dayI asked to be shown how to use the Lavaza coffee machine and the butler did not know how. I asked if we could have cream in the room and I was told I could go to the buffet to get myself cream for my coffee.  I mentioned this to the concierge and they had another butler show me how to make myself coffee.  I never did see my butler again the whole trip. Needless to say there was no tip. We have never spent the money for a butler serviced room since then.

  6. We just got off a 5 day western carib on the Elation. New Years Eve was fun. There was a huge balloon drop in the atrium. During the day we were invited to write out a wish and blow up a balloon to be dropped that night. There was champagne available for all and then a special party outdoors. New years eve and the balloon drop was at 11PM to coincide with New Yorks ball drop. Then the outdoor festivities were to celebrate midnight in the time zone we were in.

Decorations were up for the Christmas celebration, a lit Menorah was in the atrium and then New Years decorations went up during the week.

  7. Thanks for the quick response Dixie. I just remembered that I purchased the excursion--$250 using Carnival e-gift cards. That puts a new wrinkle into the cancellation dilemma. How will I get it refunded?? or can I just reapply it and save the 10%

DH is saying just forget about it but that is $$ I can spend on other things

  8. Did you walk to the Carnival Cruise line terminal? I am quite confused about its location. Peoples pictures show a Carnival ship but the New Orleans Port site says it is at Erato street terminal. Can't figure that one out.

Also, when we arrive back 5 people have an afternoon flight. We thought we could just hang out around the mall, or a cafe for a while. We can store our luggage in another persons car. Do you think Lucien would be in a position to pick up people on short notice or is it something that needs to be booked far in advance?

    Thanks

  9. We are staying at the Marriott Courtyard on Julia Street. Is it possible to walk to the Carnival terminal? We have 9 of us and 1 vehicle. I was thinking the 1 vehicle could transport everybodies luggage and then park at the Fulton St garage while all of the people walk the few blocks. Is this doable??

  10. I too would like to know these things. Along with that, I have booked a cruise with 5 cabins total for family members. Can I cancel these and rebook during my cruise next week? I need to make some serious changes on these bookings anyway since the names have changed (marriages). The price of these bookings is the same now as when I booked.

Any help for all of the questions re booking on board?

  11. Be aware that if it is out of Miami on Feb 2 then it is somewhat legit. The Miami Marathon is that morning and they must close downtown for a short while. The 20,000+ runners totally block the entrance to the port from 6am to at least 7am. Downtown driving is virtually impossible in the early morning which makes things delayed.

Done the run and cruise right afterwards 4 times.....this weekend will be the fifth time. (DH actually does the run part, LOL)

  12. Thanks B6ConMe. We will be happy just to be on the cruise ship. I just thought it would be nice to try a balcony. I have been on over 25 cruises and never had a balcony! We did get the suite perks once and would be willing to pay more for the suite to get them. Not $5000 more!! Oh well. Maybe I will try a call back in a few days to try my luck.
