CRYSTAL IS THE ‘EDITORS’ PICK’ FOR LUXURY IN 2017 CRUISE CRITIC AWARDS

Crystal Cruises honored for service, solo travel and ship redesign,

while Crystal River Cruises earns accolades for dining

MIAMI, December 13, 2017 – Further expanding its collection of worldwide accolades, Crystal celebrates top honors in the 2017 Cruise Critic Editors’ Picks Awards. The online cruise guide’s tenth annual awards named Crystal Cruises as the Editors’ Picks in the luxury category for Best Service, Best for Solo Travelers, and Best Ship Refurbishment for Crystal Symphony. In the river category, Crystal River Cruises won for Best Dining. The awards were decided on by Cruise Critic’s international team of expert cruise editors, who rated lines across dozens of categories. Cruise Critic’s UK Editors’ Picks Awards also recognize Crystal Cruises in each of the aforementioned categories, plus Best Dining in the luxury category and Best New Ship, Crystal Bach in the river category.

“It is an honor to earn such recognition from the seasoned travel and cruise experts of Cruise Critic,” says Carmen Roig, senior vice president of marketing and sales. “An uncompromising dedication to delivering a superb onboard experience to all of our guests – particularly in regard to the personalized service of our crew – has long been the chief priority of Crystal. Likewise, we are delighted that our new offerings, Crystal Symphony’s redesign and the new Crystal River ships, are earning the caliber of acclaim that Crystal has enjoyed for decades.”

Service is a cornerstone of the lauded Crystal Experience across each of the company’s brands – Crystal Cruises, Crystal River Cruises and Crystal Yacht Expedition Cruises – having earned Crystal one of the highest guest loyalty rates in the industry. As noted by Cruise Critic, crew members greet guests by name, even upon their first embarkation, and the personalized attention to detail continues from there, often leaving guests feeling more like family.

Crystal Symphony, the senior member of the Crystal Cruises fleet, underwent a redesign this fall, seeing more luxurious, butler-serviced Penthouse accommodations added, along with high-tech enhancements, revamped dining options and venues, and new open seating dining. Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity continue to boast elegant, Michelin-inspired cuisine and the only restaurants by Master Chef Nobu Matsuhisa on the high seas.

Crystal Cruises’ ocean ships have also long been favored among solo travelers. Crystal’s single supplement is generally among the lowest in the industry, and the ships offer a host of options and experiences for travelers seeking company for entertainment and dining. Ambassador Hosts are on hand for every voyage to act as dance and dining partners, while special dinner invitations and accommodations are arranged to bring solo cruisers together.

Crystal River Cruises expanded its fleet in 2017 with the debut of Crystal Bach and Crystal Mahler, which offer voyages along the Rhine and Danube rivers. The two newest ships mark the first and only all-suite, all-balcony river ships in Europe, with every category of accommodations situated above the water line. Lauding Crystal River Cruises in the tenth annual awards for its sophisticated dining options, Cruise Critic notes, “The cruise line wows with innovation; meals are beautifully plated and feature high-quality ingredients. Dishes are perfectly paired with a solid variety of regional wines.” The fleet will further expand in 2018 with Crystal Debussy and Crystal Ravel embarking in the spring.

By sea, river, land or air, Crystal has redefined the way the world views luxury travel. Rüdesheim, Germany, August 20, 2017 –Crystal River Cruises, the World’s Most Luxurious River Cruise Line™, christened Crystal Bach, the first of its four new build “Rhine Class” river ships, on Sunday, August 20 in Rüdesheim, Germany. Crystal’s CEO and president, Edie Rodriguez, presided over the ceremony, along with emcee and longtime popular Crystal entertainer, Mark Farris. The ship’s godmother, beloved German opera star Anna-Maria Kaufmann, christened the ship with the traditional blessing and champagne breaking, and also lent her famed talents to the celebration with a special performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Air.” Also in attendance were the ship’s cruise guests, local travel partners and executives from Crystal’s parent company, Genting Hong Kong.

“The enthusiasm surrounding this groundbreaking ship has been tremendous already, and we could not be prouder to welcome her to the award-winning Crystal River fleet,” says Rodriguez. Addressing the crowd in attendance, she elaborated on the innovative approach to creating Crystal Bach and her upcoming sister ships. “The fact that she is Crystal’s first-ever new build river ship means that we had the opportunity to go beyond the best and create a luxury river cruise experience that is truly unprecedented. She is the first – and, until her sisters join her – the ONLY all-balcony, all-suite river ship.

”In another industry first, Crystal Bach and the “Rhine Class” ships feature all categories of accommodations positioned above the water line, boasting king-sized beds and Crystal’s acclaimed personal butler service. The design of the vessels firmly reiterates Crystal’s commitment to not only surpassing the very best the luxury travel industry currently has to offer, but leading the charge in pioneering new standards of luxury – a philosophy also driven home with the christening and debut of Crystal Skye, Crystal’s fully custom B-777, last week in Las Vegas.

“Crystal remains committed to being the standard bearer for what is possible in luxury travel, just as they have since they first embarked more than 27 years ago,” says Genting Hong Kong Chairman and CEO Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay. “We are proud to be part of and support this vision, and look forward to continuing on this journey together.

”The festivities of Crystal Bach’s christening reached far beyond those in attendance in Germany, as Crystal broadcast the live stream of the ceremony via its Crystal Cruises Facebook page, effectively inviting the world to join in the celebration.

Crystal Bach joins Crystal Mozart as part of the Crystal River Cruises fleet recently named “World’s Best River Cruise Line” by Travel + Leisure on Crystal Mozart’s one-year anniversary on July 11. 12. Andy Geller, have you heard anything new on the Bach & Mahler? Are the crews on board yet getting everything set up? I have been looking at the info on these vessels and nothing has been mentioned about their draft, only their length 135 m. Since Crystal will not have multiple river boats running the same itineraries such that they can do ship swaps, the draft will make a huge difference when there is low water.

    Hello Swn4,

I'm pleased to advise that Our Management team stated that everything is looking wonderful for our beautiful new Rhine class vessels. The Crew and ship are excitedly undergoing last minute preparations for Crystal Bach’s big debut next month. Crystal Mahler follows shortly after.

    Hope this is helpful !

In April and May next year, the brand new river yacht will sail three seven-day “Danube Serenade” routes between Budapest and Vienna, and one 11-day “Reflections on the Danube” sailing. The new voyages are a shorter complement to Crystal Mahler’s 16-day “Grand Europe” itineraries, which sail between Amsterdam and Budapest for most of the year, cruising the Rhine and Main Rivers.

“We’re delighted to offer these new sailings aboard Crystal Mahler, allowing travelers to explore the beautiful locales along the Danube in the sleek luxury of our new ‘Rhine Class’ vessels, with the added convenience of shorter itineraries for those with limited time away,” says Crystal CEO and president, Edie Rodriguez.

Three of the voyages feature dedicated theme programming, including special guest Nancy Brinker – former U.S. Ambassador to Hungary and founder of the Susan G. Komen Foundation – aboard the April 10 sailing discussing Art & Diplomacy, the annual “President’s Cruise” with Edie Rodriguez on the April 24 sailing, and an in-depth focus on Jewish Heritage excursions aboard the May 1 sailing.

The added itineraries further enhance the all-inclusive Crystal River Cruises experience, which was recently recognized as the “Best River Cruise Line” in the 2017 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards. The line’s first ship, the 154-guest Crystal Mozart, currently sails itineraries along the Danube, while the “Rhine Class” new-builds will predominantly sail the Rhine and Main Rivers. Crystal Mahler will embark on her maiden voyage in September from Amsterdam, joining Crystal Bach on the mighty European waterways. Crystal Debussy and Crystal Ravel will join the luxurious fleet in 2018.

CRYSTAL RIVER CRUISES UNVEILS AUTHENTIC, INSPIRED CULINARY CONCEPTS FOR CRYSTAL BACH

The flavors of Europe take center stage in the elegant venues of the luxury river yacht

LOS ANGELES, July 5, 2017 – Crystal River Cruises, the World’s Most Luxurious River Cruise Line™, has unveiled detailed highlights of the culinary concepts and offerings to be featured aboard Crystal Bach, the first of the company’s “Rhine Class” river yachts, debuting in August. Sailing routes along the Rhine, Danube and Main Rivers, the all-balcony, all-suite vessel will offer sophisticated menus of cuisine inspired by the region, artfully crafted by a team of expert European chefs. And while the specialties themselves will be creatively designed specifically for Crystal Bach’s stunning itineraries, the philosophy of culinary excellence remains rooted in Crystal’s commitment to using the freshest ingredients sourced from local suppliers and serving dishes that authentically represent the destinations visited.

“As the first ‘Rhine Class’ river yacht, Crystal Bach will introduce a new standard of luxury in river cruising on many fronts, including the culinary concept and innovative experiences found on board,” says Edie Rodriguez, CEO and president of Crystal. “While we are always pursuing new and distinctive experiences on each of our luxury vessels, our overall dedication to unsurpassed quality and abundant choices remains constant.”

Guests will dine on fresh fish and seafood from Holland, seasonal fruits and vegetables from Germany and the Netherlands, meat and poultry from farmers in Bavaria and the Austrian Alps, along with wine, beer and cheese specific to the region. Uniquely European delicacies will also be featured on the expansive menus, including sturgeon caviar from Eindhoven and river crawfish from the Rhine. Additionally, as aboard Crystal’s first luxury river ship, Crystal Mozart, coffees and teas by Julius Meinl, a prestigious Vienna-based company who has crafted the beverages since 1862, will be served on Crystal Bach.

Crystal chefs will create dishes that have been favored by local people and nobility for centuries, as well as some options that boast a modern twist on the classics. From the elegant Waterside Restaurant – the main dining room aboard Crystal River vessels – to the relaxed Bistro Café and exclusive Vintage Room, guests will find farm-to-table, Michelin-inspired cuisine that complements the cultural discoveries of their journey.

Dutch herring on dill mousse and German green split pea soup with smoked duck join other European delicacies like Dornfelder braised oxtail ragout and Boeuf Bourguignonne. Mouthwatering dishes such as truffle spring chicken cassoulet “En Croute,” broiled dover sole “Meuniere” and cold-water lobster served with a creamy leek risotto are also among the culinary palate pleasers.

A brand new dedicated selection of vegetarian dishes will also be offered aboard Crystal Bach, which will offer the same fresh and authentic approach as the overall menu.

“The culinary experience aboard all Crystal vessels is meant to inspire travelers to discover more about the world they explore, as food and the camaraderie of dining is such an integral part of the travel experience,” says Toni Neumeister, senior vice president of hotel operations. “Guests aboard Crystal Bach will not only enjoy extraordinary new and classic flavors, but also a taste of the history and culture of this beautiful region.”

In addition to the inspired cuisine served on board the luxury river yacht, guests can indulge in exclusive dining experiences at Michelin star-awarded restaurants in select destinations. Each 2017 itinerary will feature at least one opportunity to indulge in signature fare of renowned eateries ashore, the first of which will be complimentary.

The vessels will be the river cruising industry’s first all-balcony, all-suite designs boasting every category of accommodation perched above the waterline. Every suite will offer Crystal’s acclaimed butler service in every room category, plush king-sized beds that face toward the Panoramic Balcony-Windows™, walk-in closets and dual vanity in the bathrooms in most categories, ETRO robes and slippers, wall-mounted flat-screen HD TVs, and Nespresso machines.

CRYSTAL RIVER CRUISES BECOMES FIRST RIVER CRUISE LINE TO EMPLOY HIGH-TECH SIMULATOR FOR CAPTAIN TRAINING

Partnership with Simwave to offer next-generation training to Crystal officers

LOS ANGELES, June 28, 2017 – Crystal River Cruises, the World’s Most Luxurious River Cruise Line™, will be the first in the river cruise industry whose captains will complete their training and assessments in a state-of-the-art simulator. The training will take place at the Simwave simulator center in the Netherlands as part of an agreement between Netherlands-based Simwave and Crystal parent company Genting Hong Kong, when the simulator is completed in November. Crystal River Cruises’ Captains will maximize real-world preparation and safety proficiency for those at the helm of the company’s groundbreaking luxury vessels.

Beyond the actual hardware and technology of the simulator, a Development Captain will oversee training programs for Crystal river captains. The Development Captain is entirely dedicated to creating and executing extensive training curriculum, ensuring that Crystal River Cruises’ captains are effectively the most experienced river captains in the world.

“Crystal is committed to setting new standards of excellence in every facet of the Crystal experiences around the world, with the expertise of our captains and officers being of chief importance to the safety and security of our guests,” says Crystal CEO and president, Edie Rodriguez. “Innovation and groundbreaking technology are integral to the beautiful new river yachts joining the Crystal River Cruises’ fleet, and we’re thrilled to extend that innovation to the training of our officers.”

The simulator’s 3D mathematical model is designed by Simwave’s mathematical modeling & research department, using actual specs from the Crystal vessels to accurately implement handling characteristics for real-world situation training. The bridge layout and design are also based on Crystal’s river ships, ensuring that captains are fully familiar with the components of the vessels before they come aboard. While Crystal’s first river ship, Crystal Mozart, is the only river ship in operation that employs two captains manning the navigation bridge at all times (she is the largest vessel on European rivers), the river simulator accommodates a second captain to train in emergency relief situations aboard the “Rhine Class” ships.

The bridge simulator includes nine vertically-mounted displays that are integrated with the globally unique mission engine room. The horizontal field of view is 240 degrees and the vertical field of view is 47 degrees, giving the optimal high density pixel count for safe sailing. “Due to the details in the visual scene like ropes, navigation objects, etc. it is of great importance that the sharpness and details in the visual system be high quality,” explains Joost van Ree, co-founder of Simwave. “This makes it possible to simulate scenarios in complex environments more realistically.”

The simulator’s tailor-made environments and controls are advanced training tools by the standards of the river cruising industry, with which Crystal’s captains are already extensively familiar. Each officer chosen to helm the luxurious vessels along the rivers of Europe boasts decades of experience, as well as lifelong knowledge of the region and its waterways.

In addition to its superior caliber of captain and officer training, Crystal River Cruises employs the most extensive portside security protocol in the river cruising industry, with restricted gangway access and security attendance 24 hours a day.

For travelers, the most prominent innovation featured aboard Crystal’s “Rhine Class” river yachts: the river cruising industry’s first all-balcony, all-suite designs boasting every category of accommodation perched above the waterline. All four river yachts will offer Crystal’s acclaimed butler service in every room category, plush king-sized beds that face toward the Panoramic Balcony-Windows™, walk-in closets and dual vanity in the bathrooms in most categories, ETRO robes and slippers, wall-mounted flat-screen HD TVs, and Nespresso machines. Additional enticing features include Crystal’s farm-to-table, Michelin-inspired cuisine in multiple, open-seating eateries: the elegant Waterside Restaurant, namesake Bistro cafés and the exclusive Vintage Room; and the Palm Court.

By sea, river, land and air, Crystal has redefined the way the world views luxury travel. Crystal Cruises is the World’s Most Awarded Luxury Cruise Line, having earned “World’s Best Cruise Ship” in Condé Nast Traveler’s Reader Choice Awards for 23 years; been voted “World’s Best Large Ship Cruise Line” by Travel + Leisure readers for 20 years; and the “Best Luxury Cruise Line” by travel professional organization Virtuoso for three consecutive years (2014, 2015 & 2016).  The newest and upcoming extensions of the celebrated Crystal brand include Crystal Yacht Expedition Cruises, Crystal Luxury Air, Crystal River Cruises – The World’s Most Luxurious River Cruise Line – Crystal AirCruises and Crystal Exclusive Class with Crystal Residences.
