Most times when you book, you are told the price for the room.  Then there are local taxes and fees, national taxes and fees, and sometimes "resort" fees.

MAYBE, just before you press the Confirm button, you get a total price for the stay, but unless you do the division, you don't realize the extra cost per day from those add ons

No, that's a US thing, too. In Europe (actually all over the world common practice) it is the law to show the final price of your purchase. If we check a price for a hotel on Expedia they show the final price right at the beginning, with tax and even resort fee included, but not specifically mentioned. If you go to a store and buy bread for 1,59 € you pay 1,59€, not 1,59€ plus tax.

If you go to a cruise line website you see the full price, tax included. And they all show gratuities (in the fine print) as optional. Otherwise they would have to include them.

    It's the law!

Others will appreciate you dressing up, esp. at specialty restaurants where they dress up and pay good money for a good experience.

I never knew that people pay good money to see ME nicely dressed in a restaurant. Do they only have a good experience when I wear a red or blue dress or does black also work for them?

Maybe I should do a poll before my next cruise dinner.

Was on Allure in 2016 an Oasis in 2018. Especially on the second formal night (so later on that cruise) a lot of people attended dinner in shorts. No one cares. And back then there was no mention in the daily planner anymore about  "no shorts etc.". Don't know why people still think there is a dress code (suggestion) on RCL.

If the beef is good, why should I care I care about other people's arms, legs, feet or whatever?

Because I don't want my wife and I first cruise to Europe to be under these conditions............Wearing a mask on airplane for 9 hours, then all the restrictions on the ship, and then even more restrictions at each port stop with not be allowed to explore on our own, cruiselines excursions only.

Rather do this cruise in 2022.

I would't worry too much about it. Most ports aren't open for cruise ships. Big parts of Europe still on lockdown (partly). And there is still a travel ban for US citizens.

Well, I´m new to cruises and from what I´ve read in this topic it seems to be a standard to give additional tips, and I really doubt that crew members will receive the automatic gratuities.

This thread is one of thousands on this board. Don't feel pressured to tip extra if you don't want to. It is not expected at all. You paid your daily gratuities already with your cruise fare if you booked during the last couple of month.

No, they simply don´t charge it anymore... They used to say it´s included in those "fixed" catalogue prices. But onboard the German bookings are not charged anymore since October. You receive an envelope by the end of the cruise and can do whatever you want.

Have you cruised since October to confirm that? I booked in January 2019 for fall 2020 and just shifted to 2021. My TA's website doesn't say anything about gratuities anymore. It used to be on the website but now they refer  to RCL's US website to check.

Despite the auto gratuities we always had envelopes in our room over the past few years.

Just because you can do something doesn't make it right to do it. I can also not tip in a restaurant if I want but someone is probably going to go hungry if I do (unless it was well deserved, then it's on them). So, is the service you are receiving while on board crappy enough to justify pulling the autograts or are you just cheap?

Maybe you want to show me where I said that I "pulled the autograts"? Even if people do,  it is none of your business. I just showed you what the cruise line allows you to do.

The way you to talk here on this thread is cheap. All that seem to matter is your opinion.

You are not following a country's tipping practice. You are following a cruise line's tipping practice. Other companies have their own tipping practices.

And the cruise line says gratuities are not mandatory. You can prepay, you can pay on board, you can pay more or you can cancel them.

The only people getting FCC’s are people who chose not to buy cancel for any reason insurance, or who live in New York and couldn’t buy it, or who were excited about the extra 25% they were getting and chose that over the cash refund. Am I leaving anyone out?

Probably most people outside the US. In Europe we don't have cancel for any reason. Policy only allows you to get your money back when you get sick, pregnant, unemployed etc..

And there is no refundable rate. We pay 10-20% upfront as a nonrefundable rate. Final payment due 30 days before the cruise (might be different in the UK). If people over 70 don't get the doctor's note or someone wants to cancel for whatever reason, they are out of luck.

What are my odds. Itinerary---  Key West--Bars Hotels beaches closed, Grand Cayman closed  60 days

next two Ports Cozumel, Porta Maya  Mexico closed 30 days. I guess that leaves me with a 7 day at sea cruise.

    Should be a blast.

I'm pretty sure there won't be any cruises over the next few month. A lot of airlines have already cancelled all flights until summer, ports are closed, concerts are cancelled over the summer. Travelwise this year is over.

  10. Wow, this is always so much fun to read. I don´t know what to say.

I was on Allure two years ago and just got off of Oasis on Sunday. The Cruise compass didn´t mention anything about no shorts or ANY other statement about what is prohibited in the MDR. Not even on formal night. And there was no word about it at the entrance of the MDR, as some always seem to see from this board.

The no shorts was only mentioned in one specialty restaurant.

Half of all the people in the MDR wore shorts on regular nights. And a lot of people wore them on formal nights. It is just the theme of the night. We also had a white night on the promenade and guess what? People wore all kinds of colorful shirts.

For a formal atmosphere I always imagine a place more quiet than a huge MDR and the noise there. And please don´t say anything about tablecloths and long pants. No idea why this is always mentioned in one context.

I don´t care what other people wear for dinner, for breakfast or in the theater. And those who want to dress up can dress up every night. Why wait for a specific night the cruiseline tells you?

  11.

Is this cruise that much more expensive than a normal CCL cruise? I don't want to tell them about it if it's way too expensive.

Pre sale was the past two days. Today at 12pm is the regular sale. Might be sold out after 15 minutes but there is always a waitlist. Works most of the time.

Check prices on nkotbcruise dot com. There are all categories and prices listed. I would say it is like triple the price of a regular cruise.

  12. I went in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and booked this year´s cruise yesterday.

It is very crowded and definitely only for fans of the New Kids, not a regular cruise at all. But the crowds are only on deck during the parties and on the beach at HMC. Everything else ist split into groups.

I would not watch Rock this boat in order to make a decision for or against the New Kids cruise. It´s still a TV show. And it is a lot of SHOW...

But for me the cruise was a dream come true.
