  1. We discussed this with the on-board cruise consultant on our last cruise. My understanding is that this is not possible. Seabourn corporate won't even begin to check your eligibility until you have completed your 140/250 days. They will check your most frequently booked category to enable a decision on which suite category your complimentary 7/14 days cruise should be. Even while you are on the cruise on which you reach the required number of days, they won't let you book the "free" one as they won't have done the checking.

    Sorry!

  2. I hadn't seen any notification about this change but thought I'd check, as I was about to book our pre-boarding tests.

    https://www.silversea.com/lp-silversea-hrts-consumer-10.html

"To embark on a Silversea vessel, all guests aged 12 and older must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least two weeks before embarking on the vessel. Guests must bring proof of vaccination or boarding will be denied."

"Guests embarking on a Silversea vessel who are fully vaccinated or up-to-date are no longer required to present a negative PCR or Antigen test."

The guidance gives a link https://www.chile.travel/en/traveltochileplan/

to the Chilean government travel site which was updated on 30 September

"At the time of embarking to Chile, the person must comply with the following:

Certificate of vaccination issued in the country where he/she was vaccinated.
If the traveler does not have the vaccination schedule for their country, they must show a negative result in a PCR test within a maximum of 48 hours from departure.
Those who are under 18 years of age do not have any requirements to enter Chile."

and in the FAQs, the website clarifies

"Do I need a mobility pass to travel within Chile?

According to current regulations, you only need a Mobility Pass to enter Rapa Nui."

Obviously no-one should accept advice from some random guy on the internet so check it yourselves, folks!

  3. If Silversea is, indeed, about to overhaul its entertainment offering, it's not before time. Some of the young singers are very good indeed but it must be soul-destroying for them having to perform what is, basically, Karaoke.

As for the "band", every ship seems to have an identikit copy of the same group, playing the same set list without any excitement or swing (even the DJs seem to have the same play-list!).

After a few Silversea cruises, our most recent was on Seabourn. What a difference! In addition to doing their own shows, the band accompanied the ship's singers as well as backing the guest entertainers - for which they had to rehearse new material at least every other day. What a delight having accomplished musicians able to showcase their individual and collective talents!

Although over the years we've actually spent more time on Silversea than Seabourn, that's because of Silversea's expedition programme. It is still the case that when we embark on a Seabourn vessel, it feels like we're coming home and that's in no small part due to the entertainment.

  4. This is horrific!

"a financial account number, a username and/or password for an on-line account"

Does this username and/or password relate to a silversea account or the "financial account"

Are the cooking classes the ones onboard in the SALT lab? If not, anyone know how to sign up for those?

Sign up for the SALT lab is on-board only.

But would the tour actually be labelled SALT?

I just checked and, yes they're clearly branded S.A.L.T. and they are in the "selected" section. On our forthcoming cruise, SALT tours are offered at Mallorca, Palamos and Livorno.

For nearly $5k more same exact cruises combined as one booking. Price out the 2 legs as B2B taking one as door2door the other as port2port. We did and were shocked that this one 24 day booking provided no savings (*why not incentivize pax to book longer sailings) it was MORE expensive as one door2door 24 day cruise!

Yes, I see what you mean. In GBP too the longer cruise seems to be more expensive!

Just had a delivery. I knew the Silver Boxes were a thing of the past, but not heard anyone mention this little surprise that turned up this morning. A rather nice notebook!

Is this the new "Silver Box" Did you guys get this too?

We assumed it was a Christmas present from a relative so we didn't open it! Very nice though!

  9. Interesting comments, everyone, about Atlantide (our experience is similar, we've made our views known and they're at least trying to address things) and about SALT (outstanding!) The only thing I don't understand about the ship itself is that there is no outdoor, forward-facing public space. Perhaps we'll never be able to sail along La Giudecca canal but where on a ship would you want to be as you sail into Rio or Sydney or Oslo or Saigon, or anywhere, actually?

I have just got my SS Travel consultant over the phone. SS is about to issue my air ticket today for my FLL - LIM cruise December 2-18, 2021. My consultant is quite optimistic that the cruise will happen with the original itinerary. To my knowledge, for vaccinated European Union citizens there is no restrictions for any of the visited countries on this cruise and so I cross my fingers that it will move forward as planned!

I understood that anyone who'd been in Schengen, UK or South Africa within the preceding two weeks was still banned from entering the US, irrespective of vaccine status. Aren't we still waiting for the Pres to announce the US opening up to twice vaxxed in time for thanksgiving?

Just got the email from BM explaining why Funchal had been missing from MySilversea for the last few days, it’s replaced by Arrecife in Lanzagrotty, and as the volcano on La Palma is still erupting we will go to Las Palmas on Gran Canaria instead. What is not explained is why we now have a useless overnight stop in Ft Lauderdale, arriving too late to go anywhere interesting.

Anyway, all this may be unavailable to us Brits unless the US actually allows us in.

Agreed about Lanzagrotty and the pointless overnight in Fort Lauderdale: surely it would have been possible to schedule a stop in the Azores or Bermuda or the Bahamas?

We've been checking State.gov and whitehouse.gov for the latest updates but, all-of-a-sudden, this cruise doesn't seem so appealing
