  1. Update: My agent provided Princess's response, it's congestion at the piers, forcing the ship to be moved two days ahead.  Princess will re-fare all passengers, protect their benefits and a new notification will be provided on May 16.

It's not cruise ship congestion, it's Fleet Week; probably all the armed forces ships will be using any available docks in the city.  October 7 to 9 is the air shows; it'll be a treat to watch the Blue Angels on the Lido, but will be a traffic nightmare to get to Pier 27.

  2. This is a weird one.  I booked Voyage 1236 when Princess announced the Royal Princess will be homeported in my city, San Francisco.  The voyage is a Pacific Northwest Coastal, originally to be October 8 to 15, 2022 (seven day) when announced to travel agents, then when open to public was from October 7 to 15, 2022 (eight day, includes overnight Vancouver).  I thought, okay, that date change was fine, and I get to spend overnight in Vancouver.

Just a moment ago, I was searching the Princess website to see if the fare was cheaper, then noticed this cruise I was booked, was rescheduled to October 9 to 16, 2022 (seven day).  But what's so odd, Princess never notified me, nor my agent, and the fare was even lower.  I just messaged my travel agent to take a look into this and find out if getting rebooked at a lower fare is worth it, especially I got a lot of OBC for booking it already.

Anyone else experienced this and not received any notice?  Doesn't have to be this specific cruise.  This is a first for me, and I'll have to ask my boss for an adjustment in my vacation time off.

The last evening or the last formal night?

We have done two Princess cruises this year, and the final MDR menus were nothing special.

My bad, second formal on second to last day on ten day cruise in main dining.  If you’re seeing the photo upside down, that’s what iPhone does.29DF2BF3-EA9A-448C-9FEA-31F465E33734.thumb.jpeg.6b01953dd7b376da52eafce22985fe59.jpeg

At what time did you take the photographs?

12:30-ish near Coit Tower, and 1:30-ish at the pier.  From walking by the lines, there was at least two of them funneling into the terminal building, and it was moving slowly.  Did see passengers slowly get aboard, few on their balconies at 1:30.

Update: Ship left SF at 6:18PM via VesselFinder.

  5. I would go for Crown Grill for the premium steaks, and sometimes do a surf and turf with a filet and pay extra for a lobster tail.  I always order the dessert sampler to end it.

But my last cruise a few months before the pandemic kicked in, I noticed the very last evening in the main dining room (lobster night), they offered premium steaks on the menu from Crown Grill; very limited selection of cuts, but was way cheaper than paying the cover charge at CG.

  6. I could not believe how long the line was at Pier 27 today in San Francisco.  I'm not a passenger, just wanted to take photos of the ship from Coit Tower and down at the dock.  Never seen such a long line before; pre-pandemic, I was in the terminal building within a few minutes.  Just looking at all the people in line, many not masked.  Knowing the ship had positive cases, this could explain why such a long wait.

  7. Hi everyone, I'm on the same situation with the switch from Ruby to Royal, but for the Mexican Riviera cruise.  Princess emailed travel agents on March 22 to confirm the switch, but in my case, it became a guaranteed stateroom within a similar category; working with my TA to see if he can get me a specific room.

Also, Princess emailed me directly on March 23 to welcome me to Royal, however, the Medallion app and the Princess website to input and retrieve my cruise info isn't showing-up for Royal.  It still says Ruby on the app.

I'm very familiar with the Grand class ships, easily knowing my way around; will be a unique experience on the Royal class to see if it's better or not.

  8. Skywalkers is definitely gone, main reason is that it made the ship less fuel efficient.  Since it was the first of its kind as a Grand class ship, the materials to build Skywalkers is heavier than what's used on others, such as Star.  As a substitute, The One5 Lounge on Deck 15 was opened in the aft, and across from the Chapel.  One5 Lounge was my favorite hangout spot during the day, comfy places to sit and read, never busy, and a great view from the floor to ceiling windows.

  9. Ahhh, okay, now I get why I got notified the Ruby is being redeployed and the Royal is taking over some of the cruises out of San Francisco.  Welcome home Royal Princess to San Francisco!  Honestly, it's nice to have the huge Royal class ship homeported in my city, we usually get the nearly retired or oldest ships in the Princess fleet.

I wonder where the Royal will go?  As of right now they have the Coral, Grand and the Majestic in Australia later this year.  Nothing for the Royal....

I was booked for Ruby on January 6, 2022, RT San Francisco to Mexican Riviera.  Got notified that Royal will be replacing her; no changes do dates.  Will get updated on or before April 7 on stateroom assignment.  I hope I get a similar stateroom, I asked for a specific premium aft balcony.

  11. Wow, I can't believe how many issues and glitches I'm seeing from the Medallion App.  Here's some of the odd stuff I experienced:

    1. When it comes to my profile picture on the app (not security photo), my face is all squished, and that's from picking a photo I've already taken or a selfie.
    2. I had issues with trying to accept the passage contract, but then I decided to log off the app.  I logged in again, but instead used my confirmation number instead of my Princess username login and it worked.
    3. This one is odd: I had my travel agent rebook my cruise because Princess gave me an even better offer with fare savings and free casino play.  I decided to try to order my Medallion several hours later, but was having problems because my cart had three lanyards and two Medallions (old booking & new booking).  Now today, the old booking is gone, but now I can't even order my Medallion, and there's no way to just dump the cart [that has nothing in it but thinks there is] and start over.  Think this is something I should contact Princess to attempt to reset?  I guess I should be fortunate my cruise is 500 days away.
