I can’t recall, did anyone ask princess if they are pursuing having this insurance again? I could really use this insurance!

I sure hope they are pursuing it but not sure they will be able to find an insurer. Insurance companies stop doing business when the dollar value of claims versus premiums paid starts getting less profitable. I am assuming that is the challenge they are facing - no insurance company wants to insure the risk.

Thanks to three of you. Feeling bit better so quickly after posting.

We are cruising mid July 2024 round trip Vancouver including glacier bay. I did pick a cabin already; a balcony on Baja deck that supposedly has two Pullman’s (mid-forward).

coming from all the way east in NJ though stopping a couple nights in Toronto first and then flying Toronto to Vancouver. Arrive mid morning the day before and depart the day after we disembark (only flights to EWR were 8AM or red eye so went 8AM following day).

We are on Ruby to Alaska out of Vancouver July 16th so may be same cruise. We have done 8 cruises with Princess though this will be our first time on Ruby. We have been on her sister ship Emerald Princess and loved it! The full wraparound deck, Adagio Lounge, Skywalkers lounge, Movies Under the Stars and International Cafe in Piazza are some of our favorite places to hang out. The service/food is very good and their elegant decor and quiet ambience are what we prefer when cruising.

Very good decision to arrive in Vancouver the day before your cruise departs. Hope you and your family enjoy your cruise!

You might want to browse the insurance boards for ideas.

Unfortunately, there is no one size fits all answer. Ages, other coverage and risk tolerance are all part of the answer. For most situations, there are many third party plans that offer better coverage than Princess.  The big gotchas with the Princess plan are:

    • minimal medical coverage (20K for Platinum) , and the plan pays secondary, so you have to file with your home medical insurance first
    • only covers items provided by Princess Cruises or Princess Tours

If you don't have good out of the country medical coverage, I would never rely on the Princess plan.  It is also a poor choice if you have a lot of non Princess expenses such as transportation and pre/post cruise stays you book on your own.

One good thing about the Princess plan is it is not age dependent.  Third party premiums increase with age.

And yes, if you feel it is necessary, you can add third party insurance to cover the gaps in the Princess plan you have already purchased.  Unfortunately, some benefits are time sensitive and may require purchase within X days of your initial deposit, or for a few plans, before final payment.

    Good luck

Great info - we find Princess medical coverage minimal and always enhance it with third party emergency medical. It’s okay for baggage loss, trip interruption and repatriation limits but certainly not nearly enough if a serious illness or injury occurs while you are away.

It’s a shame that Princess reps won’t even read the Gift Cards FAQs to provide accurate info.

Q: Can I redeem a Princess Cruises Gift Card as payment toward an existing booking or for onboard products and services?
A: Yes, the Princess Cruises Gift Card is flexible to use.  Gift Cards may be redeemed via Cruise Personalizer for cruise bookings that were made by calling 1-800-PRINCESS, or through your travel consultant for bookings made by your travel consultant.

The Princess Cruises Gift Card may also be applied toward the guest's onboard folio account once the cardholder embarks a Princess Cruise line ship for their cruise vacation experience.  To apply a Princess Cruises Gift Card to your folio, you must present your Gift Card to the Passenger Services Desk onboard your cruise.

Just an FYI - I could not apply my $500 Princess gift card to my cruise fare in personalizer. That is because the gift card is in US funds and I am booking from Canada. Confirmed over the phone with Princess some time ago, No biggie as I will add it to my account when I get onboard and it will take care of gratuities for our 19 day Panama Canal cruise in 12 more days - woohoo!
