  1. We are flying into ANC staying the night and then taking the AA railroad to Fairbanks the next morning.

Then we will meet our cruise tour there,  Where it starts.  We were going to fly from ANC to FAI but we figured the railroad would me more scenic than that.

    Thanks for all the info!

  2. Martincath....you seem to be very knowledgeable about Vancouver...can I ask a question?

We have a late flight 10:35 pm back to East Coast on a Friday(6/9) and want to do something during

the time off the ship and going to the airport.  Our problem is our luggage, that we don't want to

pull/lug around after our cruise.  Is there somewhere besides the airport that you know of that is worth trusting with our luggage near the port?

We think we want to keep them close to port and then we are going to buy day passes for rail/bus service and try to see some sites.  We first thought about taking them somewhere close to the airport, but thought that would make us waist time.

Thanks in advance for any info...Lynn

  3. I would like to ask if anyone has done the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Fairbanks before cruise tour?   Main question...how far are the train stations from the airports...ANC and FAI???  Thank you in advance!

  4. Hello....I would love some suggestions....We are sailing on Anthem August 29th, but coming into Newark to Country Inn and Suites...on August 27.  Would like to go into New York for just a little sightseeing...nothing really intense.  Would anyone be able to tell me the best...easiest way to get into and back out to Newark.  Country Inn has shuttle back and forth to airport and I'm assuming that would be pretty easy train ride from there?

    Thanks in advance for information!

  5. Carol...I got a military rate for Country inn for $119 and I think we all four would go if he goes. And I can cancel without penalty.

The flight question is really a loaded question...it really is a little more, but we could fly from our closest airport (only 30 minutes away) so not traveling 2 1/2 hours and paying for parking (our kids could take us to airport) so probably would not be a huge difference but just an easier leaving from home instead of traveling to and from CLT airport.

I just don't want the whole thing to end up being too stressful trying to get to port.

    Thanks again.

  6. Carol...couple of questions from the "expert" We are going on the Anthem Sept. 6. Two Couples.

    1) should we fly into EWR or LGA? Looks like flights are better price for us(CLT) but will we lose the savings in transfers to Cape Liberty.

    2) Have already gotten two rooms help at the Country Inn in Elizabeth and also confirmed the $17.50 per person for shuttle roundtrip to port. So I would need a recommendation for hotel if we change plans.

My husband thinks he may like to explore a little in New York since we have never been there. Of course....after....I have already done all the groundwork for EWR...haha:rolleyes:

  7. Travel insurance premiums are the same whether you buy through your TA or the insurance websites. The insurance companies pay TA something for selling...just like the cruise lines ...doesn't cost you anything. BUT the best benefit is you have someone that can do all the legwork for you. I have book for myself and through my TA and it is just easier to do everything through one place.

  8. I like both Carnival(Gold) and Royal(Diamond). I usually book for price, but I will say from experience, that Royal's perks are better...If you book a balcony, there is a great discount and if you drink, there is a lounge open everyday from 5-8 that you can get free wine..liquor drinks and specialty coffee. Almost to platinum on Carnival, but not impressed with those perks.

  9. I just went through a very similar situation. I booked a last minute cruise for Dec 4th. My husband is on PD (at home) dialysis, has been for almost 3 months. On Thanksgiving day, the catheter decided it was not going to cooperate. He had to have emergency surgery to try to correct that the next day, which did not work. On Monday, we were told the surgery would have to be redone and was going to have to be worked into the schedule. On Dec. 3rd, I cancelled the cruise, Dec 5th they had to completely put in a new PD Catheter, which also meant that he had to have another Hemo port in to do Hemo while the catheter was healing. Carnival refunded ONLY port charges/taxes...BUT, I am a TA myself and know that these things happen all the time, I have never cruised without travel insurance. The TRICK is to buy you travel insurance with 15 days of putting your deposit down, that way if you buy the right policy, any pre-existing conditions are covered. I am getting paper work together to send to my insurance company, you have to have proof of everything, but I know I will be reimbursed the other $$ that I spent on the cruise fare and hotel.

Like one person said, the cruiselines do not think of it as just changing dates, and most likely you will be penalized heavily. I always try to tell my customers that the small cost of the insurance is worth not having to worry just in case something comes up. Even if you are young, you never know if your parents, children, etc. will experience something that would stop you from going, so I highly recommend buy travel insurance...within the first few days of booking AND one that covers pre-existing medical(most cruiseline insurance DOES NOT cover pre-existing conditions)!

My hubby is back on PD and we will hopefully be cruising in just a few weeks...with our travel insurance!!;)
