Can anyone advise me on what to take on a European Waterways hotel barge trip in Provence at the end of October?  Not sure how dressy I need to be or how warm the clothing needs to be.  I know there is not a lot of room in the cabin on a hotel barge and travelling by train to get to the barge means I don't want too heavy a suitcase (which may also be a problem when it comes to storage on the barge once unpacked).  I know it's a long way away but I want to get my head round it and start planning clothing for me and my husband before I start to pack our autumn/winter clothes away for the spring/summer in England.  All help would be gratefully received!

Thanks for that help. I see that Viking announce what time luggage has to be ready, but is it normally required to be ready for removal the night before you leave the boat or at some point in the (probably quite early) morning?

Can someone please tell me what happens with luggage on a Viking River cruise? Does it get taken from you on arrival at the boat and then delivered to the cabin later or do you take it to the cabin yourself? Likewise, at the end of the trip, is it necessary to put your luggage outside the cabin (as on some larger cruise ships) the night before departure or later to be taken away by the crew or do you deal with it yourself? Any information would be gratefully received. Thanks.

Can anyone tell me whether the cabin walls on board Viking Hemming or similar Viking boats have metal walls as they do on larger cruise ships? I would like to be able to use magnets to hang items on the walls which was really useful on a recent cruise on Silver Wind.

Does anyone know whether the walls on Viking Hemming or other similar boats are metal like those on a larger cruise ship? I just want to know whether or not to take my magnets for posting papers on the wall and possibly magnetic hooks which were so useful last year on Silver Wind.

My husband and I will be cruising the Douro, including two nights at a 5 star hotel in Lisbon, in September 2018 and I have no idea what to expect with regard to the weather and what to wear. I would really appreciate any help or opinions so that I can decide (and I know it's really early to be thinking about this) what to pack. I don't want to take too many clothes as we will be travelling to Lisbon by train from the UK. I will welcome any comments on the weather we might get, what to wear and advice from anyone who has already done this cruise.

How necessary is it to have Kuna in Dubrovnik and Sibenik? Is it possible to use credit cards or pay in Euros most of the time? How easy would it be to acquire some Kuna with in port if they really are needed. We would only need cash for bus or taxi rides, drinks and possibly entry to walk the walls in Dubrovnik. Any help0ful suggestions would be useful.

Strange question, but can anyone tell me whether there are books in the bathroom in a Veranda Suite on Silver Wind on which to hang wash bags, hanging makeup bags, etc?

I will be on Silver Wind at the end of April and having read numerous threads have a pretty good idea of what clothing is needed during the day. However, I have no idea what the temperature is likely to be when on board. I assume there is air conditioning everywhere, but is it turned well down so that the temperature is pretty cool or will I be OK wearing, for example, sleeveless tops and trousers in the evenings? We are starting our cruise in Italy, going on to Corfu, Croatia and Montenegro. I assume we will be asked to produce a passport before boarding the ship, but what happens after that? Do the ship's personnel keep our passports or are they handed back to us? What happens in each port? Will we have to produce a passport when we go ashore and come back on board each time?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the help. As a new user of Cruise Critic I don't know much about posting and don't know how to re-port my question on the Italy board. However, I think you've answered my question and all I need to do is be sure that the ship actually comes into Amalfi. I think it is likely to, as the previous port of call is Sorrento.

I will be on a ship going into Amalfi in April and understand that we will be tendered ashore. Can anyone tell me how easy it is to get into Amalfi for an independent wander around? Any tips on where to go? Thanks.

Can anyone tell me how easy it is to get from Messina Port where Silver Wind will be berthing to the interesting part of the town? I need to know this in case we decide to do our own thing and just explore the town. Thanks.

Thanks for the information about Kotor, especially the length of time it takes to sail in. I was going to allow about 1 hour, but I will now reconsider.

Can anyone tell me where ships dock at these ports? Do they actually come alongside or is it necessary to take a boat to the shore? Is the docking area reasonably close to the old and interesting parts of the ports? We will be going to both places in April with Silversea's "Silver Wind" and would like to be able to walk around and explore independently and not with an expedition organised by the ship. Any other helpful information would be greatly appreciated.
