  1. Not the same ship, but we sailed in 10500 on the Jewel last year for a full transit of the Panama Canal. It was my "dream cabin" for the Canal; not that you want to be one spot for the transit, but it meant we didn't have to fight the crowds on the bow during the first set of locks.

Overall, it was an awesome suite. I don't know if those two cabins on the Dawn have the same "bump out" from the bridge above, but if so, that extra space is great. The balcony was amazing. Wind underway did not bother us (especially when we were sitting).

Extra bonus that many folks don't mention about the forward-facing suites: because there are no lights in the bow (and you have to keep your curtains closed at night) it is DARK on your balcony and the night sky is fantastic for star gazing. We saw the Milky Way many times, and even the Southern Cross before dawn in the two mornings before we reached the Canal.

  2. I live on Kauai and do know the sunset tour on a cat gets you really close, IF the weather is right. And that can be a big if. I agree that there are a lot of other things to see on the island so I don't know about doing a repeat of the Na Pali, even if you get closer. Besides, the cruise ship sees the nicer end of the coastline. If your wife is against the helicopter would she do the biplane?

  3. There are differences for sure: yes, they have the same restaurant choices for starters, and they are similar is sie but we much prefer the Jewel class ships. The Dawn has slightly larger cabins, but it is harder to navigate. It took us the entire 12 days to figure out where we were going. The Le Bistro on the Dawn isn't nearly as upscale and much more crowded than on the Pearl. The spa on the dawn is very old and not anything like th

Did we enjoy the Dawn? Yes, very much, cause we met a lot of super nice people and had some great stops, but we love the Pearl. The Jewel class ships are top of the line for us. Everyone has his/her own ideas about what is good and bad. I will say the staff on both are outstanding.

Also agree. Plus the pearl has the spinnaker lounge, which is awesome. Great views!

  4. It will cost 10% loss. The taxes are all we would pay on the kids. The taxes in mini suite can't be transferred only refunded ,so that's a equal trade. We would have to fight with insurance..so that's not fun. What do u think? Would u do it.

Oh also the refund would have to go to a cruise that is with all of us. We planned to sail without the kids on the bliss next year. We would have to rebook our spa suite that only allows two. Maybe to 2 connecting minisuites

At one point we talked about moving everyone to the suite and taking a 100% on the mini, so to me this sounds better. Plus everyone has suite benefits.

  5. New option was presented today by concierge. We could cancel minisuite, switch me and my daughter to suite using kids sail free promo and file for insurance on suite. We purchased Ncl upgraded ins which guarantee 90 percent back in a cruise credit. We my be able to use it on bliss next year. The only tricky part is if there is a glitch with refund

But it's not costing any more with a chance of gain?

  6. This is why I said earlier no one pre-cruise will be able to help you. No one is going to say "Oh, yes" and put that expectation on the concierge. You will get different answers from different NCL people who do not matter anyway, short of going to the top as DMH15 suggested. The concierge on the ship has final discretion on what services he is going to offer your and MoyCoy's non-suite family. So my advice which has worked for myself and others is be nice to him and don't go in demanding it.

Ok so the immediate family isn't a rule but rather up to the individual discretion of each concierge? So this isn't a benefit that I can count on? I was planning on asking our concierge on the pearl to see. When I asked Virginia on jewel if we had that scenario instead of two suites if we could all eat in moderno and she said sorry but no. I am excited to see if it works for the OP

  7. SC is 11530. Benefit wise, were you all able to eat together for room service, embark and disembark together etc. ? We're you only denied dinning together on the Pearl. Who was your Butler?

The only benefit we were told we wouldn't have for all on the pearl set up was the moderno/cagneys benefit for breaky and lunch. We will be able to embark/disembark together. I do plan on sweet talking and tipping the concierge upfront to see if mom and dd can come in for dining.

  8. Can you break down your experiences with this room setup

When you walk in the main door there was a door on our immediate left that was the small bedroom and bathroom. Straight ahead was living room/dining room/and bar espresso maker area. Then another door led to master bedroom and bathroom. I have pics of the whole thing if you want. Which room are you. We were 11024 and my mom was 11006 and they were identical

  9. We have a 2bd and connecting mini for myself, DH, DD and my mom. All immediate family and were told there is no way that those booked in mini would get the suite benefits of dining in moderno for breakfast and lunch. Even though all 4 of us could stay in the 2 bd. We booked the extra room and spent extra money to have the space. We wanted the rooms connecting but there aren't suites connecting on the pearl. We just had two 2bd on the jewel and they are awesome. My only question is can you all register in 2bd suite and forfeit the mini with no refund?
