  1. I have cruised quite a few times on Carnival, but my first NCL cruise is leaving in just over 3 weeks. My question is about the online check-in. I know it will be open 21 days prior to departure, which is Sunday, 1/7. With Carnival, online check-in opens up at 12:01 a.m., eastern time, since they are located in Florida. Since I am in California, I always go into the booking at 9:01 p.m., pacific time and do my check-in. Is it the same for NCL?

  2. My point was to give up-to-date, accurate information for anyone who is interested. I enjoy dressing up when visiting the dining room for dinner, so what others do does not affect my enjoyment of the evening or my decision on what to wear. I spoke to a ship officer and several dining room staff who confirmed that Celestyal's dress code has changed since the cruising restart. They suggest smart attire, but do not require anything other than long pants. I did not say that shorts were allowed in the dining room. I specifically said guests were turned away for wearing shorts. I understand you have extensive European cruse experience, but Celestyal is not a high-end European cruise line and has a different guest profile.

  3. I just returned from Celestyal Crystal's 3 Continent cruise and I can assure anyone who is concerned, that they do not turn guests away from the dining room for wearing anything other than shorts. Even at the Gala Night, where many were in nice dresses and dress shirts, there were just as many in jeans and t-shirts, and no one was asked to change clothes or eat elsewhere.

  4. Your response was not helpful. I am from the US and know how to dress like an adult. I have been on many cruises but not on Celestyal, so I know how to dress on a cruise. I was just looking for some specific information on how formal they are looking for. Clearly I am not "most people". I just asked a question. If you can't answer without insulting, don't answer.

We were on the 7-night Three Continents cruise in early December. We had a junior suite with a balcony. The cabin was huge. There was a dedicated dining room for breakfast and lunch for people in suites. Pros for me were the small size of the ship and how quiet it was. There was one morning announcement and that was it. No blaring music, no advertising sales in the shop. The food was good and the staff was friendly. Some of the tours were excellent and some were just ok. Downtown Cyprus and the duty-free shop at the port had some of the best souveniers, especially food items.

    Risaroh,

I will be doing the 3 Continents cruise in about 5 weeks and would love to hear anything you can provide regarding your experience. I am interested in how embarkation is handled. I am used to cruising on the big cruise lines where you have to choose a time to arrive at the pier. Is that a thing with Celestyal or do you just go whenever you want? I booked my cruise after they took away the free drinks offer. Can you give any insight as to how much mixed drinks cost? I am thinking about taking metro or bus from downtown Athens to the pier. Wondering how you arrived at and departed from the pier. Any information on the ports - did you do the cruise line's shore excursions?

Sorry for all the questions, but I would be interested in any information you could share.

    Thank you.

We have stayed the course and are leaving in 2 weeks (Nov. 😎 for Athens to board on Nov. 12 for our B2B 14 night Eclectic Aegean and 3 Continent cruise with the cruise completion on Nov. 26,  We will then fly to Vienna for 3 days for the wife to visit a Christmas Market.

    Stan

That is exciting. Have a wonderful time and pop back in here with a review when you have a chance.

  7. I agree that the Celestyal website, especially for the 2023 sailings, is very lacking in information. I finally called them to see if they will be offering the 3 Continent cruise next year and I was advised they would. When I asked why there is nothing on the website about it or to book, I was told they are making many changes to the website, so not everything is updated yet. That was almost a week ago and as of today, there is still nothing. If anyone is interested in watching a great review of the 3 Continent cruise, go to YouTube and look up EECC Travels. They did the cruise in 2019 and did a great job of making me feel like I had gone with them.

  8. I decided to postpone until November 2023. My traveling companion does not want to get a Covid booster, which is required this year, but won't be next year, unless something else happens. I really want to take this cruise. I love the itinerary and am a bit concerned with Celestyal, but I'm willing to take the risk.

Type G in UK.   But only for your phone.   You'll need a converter for the hair dryer.     If you try the dryer without the converter, it'll will run faster and hotter than you ever imagined until it catches fire (or stops working)

I am so confused. I have never been to Europe. I know I need an adapter so I bought that. I had no idea I also need a converter. When I go to Amazon and type in electrical converter for UK, I get lots of adapters, but nothing says converter. Can someone help me?

When departing Dover on Carnival excursion to the airport.....be ready.  Our 6:30 am transfer just left at 6:13 am.      There are other busses but I'm gone so no idea when they will leave.

That is good news to me. I have an early flight and have been worried the 6:30 transfer won't leave on time. Thank you for the update.

Both of those emails are addressed to suite guests.  The first one is for Diamond/Platinum Suite Guests, and the second is for Suite Guests.  Diamond/Platinum passengers not in suites are only supposed to drop off carry-ones, not actually occupy the cabin until 1:30-ish when cabins are ready.

That's the way I read it as well.

We just returned from our 1 week Celestyal Crystal. Every cruiser is different but for us our overall rating was "good". (using excellent, good, fair, barely passing, and avoid, as criteria standards). Considering all our cruises recently have been with Azamara, who we consider the best match for us, we were surprised at our overall impression being "good".

As I've written earlier in this thread, my previous research on Celestyal had caused me to have some basic concerns. Thus we considered this to just be just a "fling" cruise. If it worked out great but if it didn't this was the lowest pricing we've ever had on a cruise, so no big deal.

    • Specifically food in dining rooms (not the buffet which was "barely passing") was varied, always hot, and well prepared. We were shocked at how good it was. (excellent) Of course, Greek food was emphasized and we love Greek food.
    • Wine, beer and selected spirits are included. Whisky was J.W. Red Label, Smirnoff Vodka, Bacardi Rum, and Beefeater Gin.
    • There were about 500 guests and way too many crew on board to service 500 guests, so a lot of standing around. All were friendly, helpful, and courteous.
    • The variety of entertainment for us was was 'good' and also a real surprise as it was much better than expected. However, about 1/3 of the songs performed were in English, 1/3 Greek and 1/3 Spanish.
    • The items mentioned above in this comment are the most important to us. The items below were not positive but relatively minor.
    • The interior of the ship was kept very clean ... but ... there were dirty outside windows throughout ship caused by accumulated dirt on the outside windows over time. This constantly bothered us. I finally was able to ask an officer about this and was told only that I wasn't the first to mention this. They were trying to hire people for this outside work. ???? (barely, barely passing)
    • It has been mentioned that the ship is "dated". However, this was not really a big deal to us as on the whole. Everything was neat, clean and organized. However, our cabin only had two electrical outlets which did cause some logistical issues. (fair)
    • As a whole the cabin seemed dated in the size of items in the cabin. I am 6 foot 2 inches and in the bathroom everything seemed designed for a much smaller person including a very low bathroom toilet seat. (barely passing)
    • We had been spoiled by Azamara on not needing a cruise card for anything except boarding. With Celestyal we had to show the cruise card for every drink (even ice water). Very annoying. (barely passing)
    • Most cruise companies do announcements in the language of the last country they were in and English. Celestyal does four or five languages loudly for each message throughout the ship and inside your cabin. Very annoying. (barely passing)

All in all we do plan on doing another Celestyal cruise. They do provide a compelling quality/value offering. We hope they can work on some of the mentioned minor issues. I have written to Celestyal directly.

I really appreciate your very detailed information.

Book your taxis early.  I heard a lot of people say they thought they could just get in the taxi lane, but all taxis were pre-booked.

    No customs that I saw.

I booked a private taxi to and from the airport.

And beware - London is about to have a train and bus workers strike on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.  With the strike being every other day, it means the trains will be out of position on non-strike days.  People also won't be able to get to work and taxis will be in short supply.

Great tips. Thank you very much.
