  1. Cruises after 9.1.14 charge $10 pp for people over 5 for the character breakfast. You can book it online, but it's hard to find (I had to go around the world and back to find it, and they have changed the site since then. Might be better off calling).

They are on sea days, and you don't know which group of characters you will get.

    Kung Fu Panda

    Madagascar

    Shrek

You stay at your table, and the characters visit you. Very well done with little to no chaos.

The breakfast is pretty much the same as the regular MDR breakfast, with a few additional chocolate items.

Fun for the littles, but I didn't find it worth the $10

(Glad it was still free when we did it)

  2. If there's no charge, won't people book and then not go? We tried to book it on the Liberty a month in advance and it was booked up.

We did it on the Allure last year and there was a stand by line outside the dining room.

If anyone didn't show, they certainly had no problem filling the seats.

Like other cruisers have said, you can eat in the MDR for free, and peek around the corner to see the characters. I hope this surcharge doesn't stick, to be honest, it's not worth $10.

  3. It has been so long since I have traveled with a little child, that I never realy gave thought to the decline in frequency of the towel animals.

That being said, my sister in law is bringing her little one...

Has anyone had experience with maybe getting an extra towel animal or whatever once the steward knows you have a little one with you?

Not a make or break deal, but the kid is so danged excited about it, I think she is more excited about that than anything else on the ship!

Hm...do they still offer towel animal classes? Maybe I should sign her mother up :D

  4. I will also add that friends of ours, still deck 11, were bed next to balcony and their room was warmer than ours.

(Side note: never EVER shut off the master switch, you will have NO A/C)

I run hotter than normal people. Even right now, I am comfy in shorts and a t shirt and hubby is next to me in sweats and a long sleeve. I was warm at night, but it was never enough to be bothersome.

We are headed back on Allure, no fears about being too warm at night!

  5. 1- Where is the location (aft, mid, forward) of your cabin you were in?

    Mid Ship

2- What deck were you on?

    11

3- What type of cabin did you have (ocv, boardwalk lcv, central park, interior)?

    Ocean View Balcony

4- Was the cabin cool to your liking (for those who like it on cool side) in the daytime?

Yes, the room was fine (and I stay hot)

5- For those who said their cabins got warmer at night was it set to lowest setting?

Yes, even at lowest setting, the room was warmer at night

6- For those who said their cabins got warmer at night when around did you notice this (I realize your sleeping and may not be able to answer but maybe some can)?

When I would get up for a drink, or when I would get hot enough to kick off all covers.

7- If it got warmer in the cabin during the night, did it get cooler in the am?

    Yes it did

8- Has anybody called maintenance or mentioned about it getting warmer in the middle of the night and what answer did they give you for the reason to this? Was this issue every corrected for you?

I did not call. Had heard on CC about this happening, so we were expecting it.

  6. I believe I saw a picture of what looks like cigars in what might be a cigar bar. Can you tell me if there is one on the allure and where it might be found? My husband like and occasional cigar and really enjoys the good company he has always found in the cigar bar on various ship. Please help.

There is no Cigar Bar on the Oasis class ships. On Allure they had "Cigars Under the Stars" in the Solarium (check your compass). I would imagine they had the same sort of thing on the Oasis.

  7. A few members of our group plan on booking the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter. Those of us who don't want to go, but might want to simply observe...

I thought I had read something about a separate cost for observers, but cannot locate it now. Anyone had any experience?

  8. I enjoyed the over the water cabana, the pro was having the beach and water right there. The downside was that we were so close to the shore that random kids kept coming up and taking our mats.

Not the biggest deal, but you asked pros and cons :)

If I had it to do all over again, I would choose the water. I just found it so relaxing!

  9. We ate in the MDR every night last cruise, and never once did I see a pair of shorts. What I did see though, and thought was a nice "happy medium", were teen boys in pants that have the zip off bottoms. After dinner, they unzipped the legs, and were "back" in shorts.

I know OP mentioned athletic shorts, but maybe this is worth a thought?

  10. It has been about 10 years since I last went to Magen's Bay, I am sure things have changed since then.

When I was there last, smoking was allowed on the beach.

A member of our group asked me about this, and I don't know!

What about at the bar area?

Anyone who has been there recently, could you help?

    Thank you!

  11. Hi lgonquin,

I love it when people are Following my review because I then know it is good enough that they will stick with it. Imagine sitting here getting no feedback.

    Thanks again.

    megacruiser

I have to say, frequently I just subscribe and never reply to the OP to tell them that I did.

It had never occurred to me that it mattered!

On that note, I have been following since the beginning, and am very appreciative of your detail and pictures! :D

  12. I spent some time digging through old douments, but I guess I threw away my old reservation for the character breakfast from our Allure trip last year.

My niece is traveling with us this time and would like to do this.

I have been online looking and cannot locate the breakfast; I assume either

    1. it's already full

    2. they haven't opened it for booking yet.

Can anyone remind me when they open booking for this...seems I can book almost any specialty dining option but this one.

    Thanks!

  13. A search of the boards did not find exactly what I am looking for.

We are traveling with a 6 year old who is DYING to go to the kid's club.

I had a question about signing the child out.

In my previous experience, 2 people were "authorized" to sign out the child. That was on a different cruise line, so I am not sure what to expect here.

Any recent travelers have my answer?

    Thank you!
