  1. Busan station is the closest station to the port, about a 15 min walk, which is underground. The train station that is visible (and closer) is the long distance trains. If your wanting to use the metro system, you are better off catching the shuttle into town and going straight downstairs to the metro from the drop off place

  2. Cruised October disembarking at Yokohama, and yes there was. Some of our dinner companions caught the complimentary shuttle bus to Sakuragicho station and went to Kyoto.

If this cruise season, it is no longer available, Nihon Odori station is a 10 min walk from the pier

  3. In 2017, we visited Busan, and had an extra day stopover due to an impending typhoon that was about to hit japan.

Tours were listed for Busan prior to our cruise, so unsure why nothing is listed now.

We did our own trip and had a great day.We caught the shuttle into town and they dropped us next to the fish market (amazing to see but a bit overwhelming). After getting off the shuttle bus, we went downstairs to the trains and caught a train to Dadaepo Beach and had a wonderful day wandering along the coastline

  4. For Japan, what are your current thoughts of how long your staying post cruise..... did you want a day trip to My Fuji, or were you thinking if going to Kyoto?

Yokohama is about 45-60 min via train south of Tokyo. Tokyo has a number of majors cities within Tokyo....a hotel at Ueno, Tokyo, Shinjuku or Shibuya are all great locations, depending upon how long your staying and what you want to see.

When we finished our cruise, we flew out of Narita at 9pm, so we made our own way to Narita airport, stored our bags at the airport and caught a local train to the township of Narita ( a quaint little village) and had a brilliant afternoon wandering

  5. We did a Mt Fuji day trip that the pick up was from your hotel (booked thru viator) which was great.

Whilst we stayed in Shinjuku, we tried a number of tiny local restaurants, choosing our meals from pictures and at one place, eating local food. It was a great experince

We have been to Japan twice both times staying in Shinjuku and just caught the train to Yokohama ourselves.

The trains from Shinjuku to Nihon Odori (station near Yokohama's Osanbashi pier) would cost you less than US$ 10 per person, and would take about 60 minutes.

JR train from Shinjuku to Shibuya; 15 minutes, 240 yen.

Toyoko Line from Shibuya to Nihon Odori; 29 minutes, 450 yen.

Nihon Odori station is a 10 minute walk or a 5 minute taxi ride from Osanbashi cruise terminal.

  6. Very envious of your trip. I love Japan.

Kagoshima is very easy to do it yourself. Princess, for us organised a shuttle into the city centre and it was an easy walk to the ferry terminal, to make our way to Sakurajima (the volcano island). We purchased a multi purpose ticket that allowed the ferry trip, the hop on hop off bus sightseeing around the island, and on return we could use the hop on hop off buses (blue and red). We used the "blue" buses and stopped at a few places on the circuit.

Aomori, was our only ship organised trip as i wanted to go into the mountains,

but knowing your going in cherry blossom season, Aomori has a castle and gardens with hundreds of cherry blossom trees.... a very easy to do trip

  7. Hi

Last year, we went to Busan. Prior to arriving I had organised $100 Australian, into Korean won for our do it yourself tour.

Princess organised a shuttle bus into the city centre located next to the fish market (which is an amazing experience.) We wandered thru it on our return from our day trip.

After catching the shuttle in, we went downstairs into the train system and caught the train to Dadaepo Beach (very easy). When we arrived, we walked to the beach and had a stroll, heading toward the northern headland to a national parkland and checked out the shrines and monuments and looked at the rocky outcrops. Towards the southern end of the beach it was a grassland for the birds, with a bridged walkway thru it. We also was lucky enough to experience a local "blessing of the fishing fleet", i think pantomine that was for the locals at this beachside park. We lunched at one of the local cafes

  8. Whilst we were in Busan, we winged it and had a brilliant day. Caught the shuttle into the city centre and went downstairs to the railway line. Caught the train to Dadaepo Beach and explore the coastline there. Was a great experience exploring the parklands and the beach area. We even watched a "blessing of the fishing fleet" pantomine
