  1. We are sailing on Epic on Saturday also. We received the call this morning. It was on my answering machine, so don't know the number that the call came in from. The current cruise is a charter so they may want to give their "chartered" guests a little more flexibility in getting off the ship on Saturday morning.......so we don't rush on before they want us? Just thinking that could be the reason for the calls. I have never had one before in my many cruises.

  2. Dunedin is the first port in New Zealand on our cruise. Are there bank ATMs in the port area?

I believe you are on the same cruise as we are. I usually have euros with me when I travel to Europe but this is an entire different part of the world with us needing both Australian cash and New Zealand money. Wonder what we do if we find that our ATM card doesn't work in these countries. Guess it only leaves the ship's exchange with higher rates. Be certain to notify your bank that you will be traveling to these ports.

  3. Thanks for sharing your experience! We are first time Princess cruisers, so excited to see what a different line offers. The best part about our upcoming short cruise is that we will be sailing with friends. We all just wanted to get away for a quick break!

  4. Soap is a liquid gel in a dispenser. Shampoo isn't the best. We take our own bar of soap for the shower and bring our own shampoo, conditioner, lotion, Q-tips and cotton balls. A handy hint for travel is to purchase the smaller travel bottles at your local drug store or discount market and fill them with your favorite brands. They are usually found in the aisle where the small toothpaste and other travel size samples are found.

  5. Going on my first Princess Cruise and I am concerned about the coffee. I have heard the horror stories about it being made with some sort of syrup. To comment on something posted before......Azamara, NCL and Celebrity make their coffee in the buffet and dining room from beans/brewing. I have witnessed it firsthand. Where do you go on Princess to get coffee if you have bought a coffee card? I will be sailing on the Emerald. Also wondering what sort of coffee cream they have available? Cold half & half, little non refrigerated cups, powdered (chemicals) regular milk? I must admit, I do like very good coffee. Sometimes it is difficult to find when you are traveling anywhere!

  6. We make the 10:10 flight out of FLL every time. We're usually waiting in the airport about 2 hours.

We do like you - line up early and are the first handful off.

We do have a backup of a later flight but we like the early one. 90 min. non stop flight home, gain back an hour, hour drive to the house.

We saw that our flight from FLL to Charlotte was changed from 11:20 to 10 something, having coming back from Europe hope that we get through fast, supposed to arrive in FLL early on a Monday morning......traffic?

  7. Welcome to Cruise Critic Lucky Luie........and your first post is a very good question! Like many have stated, unless you can find it on a television in the sports bar you are probably out of luck! At noon it won't be broadcast in your cabin. (how in the world did you agree to a cruise on GAME DAY?) Anyhow, we will be sporting our Buckeye gear here in NC!

  8. The picture shown was my cabin on the transatlantic that Mike took during our Cruise Critic cabin crawl. It is cabin 11274. The picture is taken at the narrow end of the balcony and it is wider on the side by the door. Not enough room for a lounger but plenty of room for the chairs and table and to stretch your legs out.

We did not have excess wind with this cabin and were very pleased with it. The bed is by the closet closest to the door, not a lot of room there if you are a much larger person and need to access the closet, shelves and safe.

Enjoy the Breakaway, she is a lovely ship!!!!

  9. Wow Phil, you did a wonderful job of describing our cruise! Art and I were off the ship this morning at 6:20, waited about 15 minutes for a taxi in the line across from Terminal 88. Ride to JFK was about 45 minutes. Wanted to share that story with the readers about to head to NYC. We were talking to a couple in the taxi line behind us and decided to share a cab as we were both headed for JFK. After getting in the cab and heading out the other gentleman noticed that the meter wasn't registering. He questioned that and the cab driver said it was "broken". Our other couple were here visiting from London. He asked then what the price would be and the driver told him $75. I quickly spoke up and told him that I had paid $45 on my last visit and in his broken English he told me that I was wrong......"no one charges that, it must have been many years since you were here". I told him no, that was not the case.

He agreed after going back and forth on $60 plus a tip. When my husband's suit case fell over after being placed on the ground, he kicked it. Not exactly the ending to a wonderful cruise that I expected. So beware and agree on a set price prior to GETTING IN THE CAB! Lesson learned.

I had the "hump" balcony and yes, it definately is much bigger than the standard ones. The bed configuration also seemed to determine how much space you had between the bed and the closet. Some of the rooms had two nightstands on either side of the bed. Ours had a much smaller night stand on the other side of the sofa. Something else that has not been mentioned -

there are no drawers for storage. There are shelves in the closet, some storage space in the night stands and two shelves under the television. I could see that two women with a lot of clothing could run into a problem here. My husband and I are light packers and it worked out okay for us.

Our friends were in a mini suite lll86, they did not have a bathtub but an extra large shower and beautiful large sink. Their bed was next to the closet also but they had the two nightstand set up with more room next to the door.

Loved meeting everyone on our roll call, we had some fantastic people in the group. Some of us met for lunch on the last sea day. We did not collect cabin numbers so were unable to get up with everyone when we decided this last minute.

Thanks Mike for sharing all of your beautiful photos. You got many more than we did. I hope our travels will cross again in the future.

  10. Colin-yes you may reprint, the form is on the website.

When you go to the office supply store to purchase the labels that you will be printing out so that each person can fill in their information you will need to purchase Avery 5264 labels. They will print out six name tags per page, that way you will know how many packages you need to purchase. There is no waste this way since the names are not actually printed in and you can save any extras (not everyone shows up for the Meet and Greets!) for your next cruise.

I have to admire the name tags that were shown above, would love to talk to the person who made them!

I just opened the file for the name tags that was posted above and I see that they have 10 nametags per page, different than my template, which has six and uses much less colored ink. If you are interested in seeing the Cruise Critic name tags I have I would be glad to share the website. For the ten per page you would need Avery 5163 labels.

  11. RomeInLimo is the best. Duman and Janey will take good care of you rest assured. We used their company in Rome, Florence and Naples on our NCL cruise. There was no waiting in any lines! (if you book them for more than one port you will get a price break) We had 16 people from our Cruise Critic roll call all signed up to travel with them. We had two very clean vans to travel in. The vans can get to places that the large tour buses cannot.....not to mention.....you don't have to wait for 30 people to get back to the bus, thus having more touring time.
