  1. Not prattled on - all very informative.

We are a bit restricted on what cabin to have as it is only 3 months to the cruise, I agree the superior cabin looks fab! I just want some peace and quiet so I can continue to get well.

I have health issues too so we only booked 3 weeks before sailing and it was very much a case of taking what was available and we wanted to have cabins above and below us rather than public areas where there is always the potential for more noise.

Wish you well with your recovery

  2. We were on Ventura earlier this month in a D Deck balcony cabin located half way between the forward and midships staircases and felt it was an ideal location. The cabin was more spacious than the standard balcony cabins with a 3 seater sofa in the 'lounge' area, 2 televisions so you could watch either from the sofa or the bed. Plenty of shelf space as well for all the odds and ends.

The bathroom has shower over bath and makes the bathroom slightly more spacious than when there is only a shower. The wardrobe/dressing area does afford some privacy if required and has a shelved cupboard and 'wardrobe' which is just a hanging area without doors but it is full height so no problem with long dresses. We found there was more than enough shelving in the cupboard for other clothes and sundries.

We liked the slightly bigger size of balcony and didn't find the fact it was overlooked a problem at all. As someone else has said it is nice to look straight down to the sea rather than onto someone's balcony. Overall we loved the cabin and would definitely choose it again.

Sorry if I have prattled on rather a lot.

  3. Oh my... I was under the impression that Princess Cays was included! That factored in to my decision of purchasing the package... I sure hope a few others will chime in to let us know if it is!

We were there in Feb/March this year and the AIBP was included but we found the prices of drinks differed slightly from on board and some cocktails which were included on the ship cost more than $10 on shore so fell outside the AIBP criteria.

  4. I have booked a sector for 2016 which is Sydney to Singapore. It is not in the brochure but available online and via your TA. As people will be leaving the ship I would think P&O would want to fly some replacements in?

Thanks Davecttr. Perhaps I should have looked more closely. Too late now, booked Adonia Caribbean last weekend. Maybe 2017....

  5. Beware of carrying cruise cards ( and hotel room cards ) in a handbag if the bag has a magnetic fastening.

The magnets in the bag can trash the data on the card so that it won't open your cabin door

Credit cards can have the same effect. I had problems on a Princess cruise recently because I'd been carrying my cruise card in my wallet.

  6. As P&O use Thomas Cook as well as Thomson for their charter flights surely they would need to provide similar service on both airlines or some folk would be a bit peeved. Not that it bothers me one way or the other but we're on TC next March and I'm not expecting free drinks.

  7. After reading this and other threads regarding children on ships, are there any "adult only" ships on any line? There are certainly enough options for families with children to cruise everywhere. However, there are people that, for many legitimate reasons, prefer not to vacation with children. If Princess designated say, their new ship, as an adults only ship, do you think it would be popular enough to be booked most of the time? Or maybe designate selected itineraries on other ships as "adult only". I know it will never happen, just a theoretical question. Would these be popular? Would you book? Is this an untapped market?

The only one I have experienced is P & O who have 3 adult only ships, two mid size and their smallest. Must be worth doing as they've been running them for a few years.

  8. The Mini Bar setup consists of two of each of the following:

    Courvoisier VS

    Beefeater Gin

    Skyy Vodka

    Dewar's Scotch Whisky

    Dos Equis Beer

    Coke

    Sprite

    Tonic Water

    Perrier

    Bottled Water

    Lew

It's interesting to see what's included in the minibar. This will be our first 'Elite' cruise so I wasn't sure what to expect. However I notice there's no Rum(Bacardi). Is this not an option as it's the only spirit my husband drinks? If not I might have to swap the others for Vodka - for me!

  9. Little Annie, there is an Elite Cocktail party most every evenings and they serve snacks and there is a drink of the day for $5.00. With the drink package we were able to get anything we wanted within the $10 price range at the party and anywhere else on the ship. Specialty coffees at the IC and with dinner, water bottles to take to the room, off ship, and with dinner instead of the ship water which makes my ankles swell. Fresh squeezed orange juice, all soft drinks and regular beers plus wine by the glass up to $10 in all bars, dining rooms, vines, casino, etc. We had package on the Ruby and made even but it was nice not to have to worry about a drink of any type. Should be even better on our Royal in October from NYC to FLL with so many sea days........

Thanks for the information gacruisergal. it's good to know what's available where and that hubby can have a cappuccino after dinner if he wants. We are thinking the package will probably make sense for us as we have 9 sea days out of 17. I think we'll look in on an Elite party now and again, but probably not every day. Thanks again, and thanks for this thread which has been very enlightening.

  10. Sorry I'm butting in a bit with some questions. We're on Emerald soon and thinking about the package. However someone on this thread mentioned an Elite Lounge. We're Elite for the first time on this cruise so wondered what this is. Also are speciality coffees, eg capuccino, latte available at any bar or only in specific locations and can you order fresh O J any time including at breakfast? There's probably other things I'll think of but any guidance is much appreciated.

Oh you've not long to wait Jane. We don't go till the end of August, Med and Adriatic. Hope you enjoy the Fjords, they're spectacular. We did them in summer a few yrs ago but last March we went to the North Cape and saw the Northern Lights. Have a great time.

  12. Ann.I have prepaid for one package with pounds and my husband now wants one, I am beginning to think we should both book on board and pay in dollars, which we have..

When our TA told us the prices we decided it was a 'no-brainer' so will book onboard. However I have assumed cost will either go onto onboard account or at the very least be payable separately on Credit Card. Can anyone enlighten me please?

  13. Hi

Sorry to jump in on this discussion but could anyone explain how one buys this package onboard. We're on Emerald in August ex Southampton and have been quoted a price in GBP to book in advance but given current exchange rates it is much more cost effective to pay in USD. Thanks for any advice.
