Staunch I do wonder if it'll have assigned seating at dinner.  It was what drew me to Carnival in 2012: the guarantee that I won't be eating dinner alone.

     Response from VV when inquired:

"In the coming months we will be announcing our on board experiences and Shore Things for our Sailors. There will definitely be a lot of opportunities to mix and meet Sailors on your voyage. Gunbae, our Korean BBQ offering, will be one of our most social restaurants on board. It will be a perfect opportunity as a solo traveler to branch out and meet people since we are making sure to that Sailors are seated together communally in mid-sized groups. "

  2. I'm paying for the convenience of paying a lump sum rather than the fees afterwards. I'm okay if it's a little more expensive (though I believe creativegenious when they say it's comparable). VV says they're targeting people who don't go cruising. Surprise fees sure miffed me on the first and only cruise I ever went on. Built in fees mitigates the ignorance of new cruisers. The gratuity is non optional on VV. Their workers are getting paid whether youre stingy or had bad service. I kinda get it. Might be better to actually list out any fees during booking to make things transparent. Or maybe not, I expect Virgin did their research thoroughly.

My husband and I (61 and 55) are booked for the New Year's Eve voyage and my mother (79) will be coming along too -- and she's more excited about it than we are!

I love that your mum is excited for the ship! VV is looking for people with vivre, curiosity and an open mind, which are the people I want to hang out with, not an age group. (Oh and money, they're looking for people who are willing to pay it)

And ditto for going high and going low with the steak/fish&chips analogy, it's a balance in life. I have Scion because it's a glorified Corolla with a great sound system and moonroof. I travel in hostels so that I can buy and eat whatever I want. Scarlet Lady's rooms are not posh, but they're comfortable and I will eat and do everything on that boat with no extra charge or worry. Not hamburgers. Korean barbecue and whatever nonsense is in the test kitchen. Im praying for a drink package after all, but I'll handover my pesos anyways.

And drag brunch is a drag show while you're served brunch. It's fab, and there better be enough seats for me to get in on that.

I honestly hope there is no assigned dinner. I hate being told what to do, and missing a meal because I change my mind would make me irate.

As a solo sailor, I do hope they have some organized things for us to meet other people on the ship early on. I suggested a pub crawl which is a surefire way to find buddies when I stay at hostels, as well as hit many of the venues on the ship. There's still so much to find out by the time the sail date comes around!

BTW, the tattoo parlor at sea sounds like it was dreamed up by someone who studies hipster trends but has never had a tattoo themselves. My DH has several and he always has to schedule them around our Caribbean vacations because you can't (or shouldn't) swim with a fresh tattoo!

I thought about having my stomach repierced, but then thought of the pools and spa. Immediately nixed that idea.

I am thinking the tattoo parlor might be doing a lot of temporary tattoos (with just surface ink that would wear off after a week or two, and you could swim with).  I think a lot of people might go for that on a cruise.  So more transient skin art, than tattoo...

I love the idea of temporary tattoos!! Ive never had a tattoo and that would be super fun. Henna even! I hope Virgin is monitoring these boards and get the idea

    Hi Doll,

I've booked a seaview solo for the birthday bash.  I actually just looked and a seaview solo has opened up...I hope you are able to grab it today!  I would guarantee that it was on a 24 hour hold which dropped off.

I'll actually be turning 40 onboard, and between me and friends...we have five cabins booked thus far.  It should be an amazing time, due to the theme (with Richard being onboard).  I expect it to be filled with a few extra events / perks.

Funny I checked my email and saw your post after I snagged that room! I was lazing in bed, late for work, and thought "Why don't I check? You never know!" I saw one was open, and I put a 24hr hold. I was so nervous bc I forgot my password, but it let me hold with my email and info. I got it! Thanks for looking out!

It's nearly twice what I wanted to spend to be honest. I'm not into celebrities per se, so I'm not sure this is worth it for me. I hope they announce what is so special about the bday bash in particular. In the meantime, keeping my eye open for other Ronson dates that may be less expensive with solo rooms. I feel lucky that I got the solo seaview this early so at least I have something in place! I didn't realize there are only 6 on the ship.

I'm considering it.  10 days is definitely too long for me.  5 to 7 days is fine with me and they have 5 day ones and adults only is definitely enticing.  What does everyone else think?  I just wish there were some in the fall or winter months but I'm still thinking about it.  I'm looking at a solo cabin.

I see bookings through October, so you can book for fall. I just booked a solo inside for the birthday bash in july. Pricey, but im excited! Hoping a seaview becomes available. I think this will be great for solos as it seems to aim for a very social, fun loving demographic. Look at sept/oct for solos around $1000.

This looks like a 100% single supplement to me.  If the cabin is $2,000,  solo would pay that amount.  2 people in the cabin would be $1,000 each.

I am only looking at the solo room. Where a couple would pay 1750 for a seaview cabin at 875 apiece, id pay 975 for a seaview solo. Im okay with that,  and i dont need to find someone to share with.  Not that id want to.

  10. 4 days Canaveral to Bahamas Norwegian Epic. I love the idea of being away from people for the most part. A quiet place. but $40 a day when it used to be about $30. I barely have time to be sick of people, but ooooh steam room and not crowded hot tubs. but $40 a day ouch! I have no kids or spouse to need a respite from. I know it's a subjective question. Just asking, if YOU would do it.

  11. Hi! My first time posting (obviously!). I'm kind of type A, and don't like financial surprises, so I've scoured this boards and Google in general. I feel like prices have gone up, and it's a pill I'd rather swallow now that later.

    The question is:

Do you think $40 a day for the thermal pass is worth it on a 4 day cruise?

Pretty much the more you days you're at sea, the cheaper it is. The one day pass is $59, the trip long pass is $159. I'm a bit whiny, as I look at the great deals I've seen in the past, and what I'm offered at my first trip. But so be it. Is the pass still worth it to you as times have changed? If you want to throw in your two cents about a la carte specialty dining, no adult sundeck, and that we can't bring sealed bottled water, you can throw that in too.

    Thanks for your input!
