  1. ....... Sorry but this makes no sense. Get an officer or security person, and retrieve the luggage.

Very interesting read and appreciate those that have taken the time to explain the reasonings of the laws/acts. I suspect less than a few percent of cruisers knows this.

After reading the quote above I couldn't help but wonder if anyone else had the same vision I had:

Porter 1: What was the name on the bag we're looking for?

Porter 2: (looking out at thousands of bags) What difference does it make?

Porter 1: Yea, you're right, what size is the bag we're looking for?

Porter 2: (looking out at thousands of bags) They said it was big.

Porter 1: Hmmmm, okay, what color is the bag?

Porter 2: (looking out at thousands of bags) Dark blue

Porter 1:So we're looking for a big dark blue bag correct?

Porter 2: (looking out at thousands of bags) That sounds about right.

Porter 1: And they want it when?

Porter 2: Before the ship departs in an hour.

    Porter 1: BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Porter 2: OK, I'll tell them we couldn't find it.

  2. Now, I'm concerned. We paid the bulk of our trip with Carnival credit cards (purchased from Krogers, Meijer and AARP, so they are all legitimate). We also bought travel insurance. Are you saying that, for the most part, we are not covered?

We are sailing during hurricane season. We also have receipts from our travel agent showing paid in full.

Don't panic, if you bought your cards through legitimate retailers (not resellers) you are fine. Enjoy your cruise. One should always keep receipts to prove purchase(s). With the availability of 10% off gift cards from a number of places such as Verizon, AARP, and others I'm not sure why people utilize the resellers as their discount is the same and the cards are usually only guaranteed for a limited amount of time.

The title of this post is a little misleading as this is a reseller issue and not a gift card issue. The more established resellers are very good about making it right within the terms of agreement. It is printed very clearly the terms of reimbursement and should be read and understood prior to purchase.

  3. Not sure what kind of fishing he enjoys but if its reef fishing I understand Capt Les has good reviews. Here's their website: http://lilbfishingbahamas.com/ There's a big difference between reef fishing and trolling so know that going in. If he's more likely to want to fish for big game than reef fishing is not what he's after.

I booked a trip with him upcoming in November.

  4. The reason I asked this question is so we can plan out port calls accordingly. We will be in Freeport on our second day and plan to spend the day fishing and have our catch prepared by locals for a late lunch. I do not want to book a "food" activity in port on the same night as the Chef's table. I currently have the flexibility to change this excursion to either port call. If Elegant night is indeed the second night (which appears to be the consensus) then that will work fine for us. We'll prob be too tired to mess with elegant night after a day on the water in the sun and won't mind skipping it. This should work fine for us.

Of course we're assuming they wouldn't dare do Chef's table and Elegant night on the same evening..... would they? LOL

  5. I tried asking this once before but wasn't specific enough in the particulars to get a helpful answer. We're foodies and love the Chef's table. We've reserved our spot on an upcoming cruise to the Bahamas Nov 5th. I have emailed the steak house asking for which night of our cruise will this take place only to get a reply that we'll get a notification sent to our stateroom after we board.

My dilemma: As I said we're foodies and love experiencing native foods/cooking of the countries we visit. One of our stops we will be fishing and having a local restaurant prepare our catch for a late lunch/early dinner. I can currently schedule this for either port visit. I do not want to do Chef's table on the same day.

This cruise is a 4 day. (Port Canaveral, Freeport, Nassau, Sea Day, Port Canaveral) The order of our itinerary is important as our sea day is on the 3rd day. I have seen this cruise with the itinerary in reverse. With that said I am hoping someone has been to a Chef's table on the Liberty with our itinerary (sea day on day 3) and can tell me which night they had their Chef's table.

  6. ........if your booking has a 50 dollar on board credit and there is 2 people, each person gets $25 dollars.

Now that's just not true. I had a $200 OBC and my wife told me none of it was for me.

  7. Thanks for this head's up! I checked the terms of my Carnival Gift Card last night and states that it has no expiration date... So, I'm thinking that the 45 day limitation does not pertain to Carnival.

Just so we're clear, your thinking does not reflect the actual statement posted by the company selling the cards. This is posted on their website:

Message from CardCash: CardCash advises all of it's customers to use their gift cards within 45 days. This message is clearly stated on their website and on all their communication. If you have an extenuating circumstance that you think should be taken into consideration, please email scamguard@cardcash.com so they can look into it.

With that said, getting them and using them right away by paying for your trip or adding it to your OBC should be fine. There's nothing to say they will not be valid after the 45 days just that they advise you to use them prior or face having no recourse.

Also, I believe these are e gift cards not physical gift cards. Note the difference when making a decision.

  8. FYI..... do not buy these if you are planning to use them several months from now. There has been incidents of them not being valid after 45 days. Here's a statement from Cardcash:

  9. Thanks so much for the replies. Unfortunately it looks like we'll be traveling the opposite route. Our itinerary calls for Port Canveral, Freeport, Nassau, Seaday, Port Canaveral.

So I guess I'm still not positive. It would make sense that they would have elegant night on seaday but with our seaday on the fourth day...well....

I'm most concern with which night the Chefs table will be on. Either of them on a port day would be no Bueno.

  10. Not really. Fare forfeited... win for Carnival. Non-revenue producing passenger off the ship... a wash for Carnival. No consumption of fixed passenger costs... win for Carnival.

The only loss would possibly be losing the smuggler as a returning guest. And that's not really a loss.

I don't understand why this policy isn't more widely enforced. Seems like an easy way to make money to me.

Not really. Carnival needs to make a certain amount of money per person, which includes the cruise cost, liquor sales and gambling. Each guest has a break even point. By kicking of those that to not pay their fair share, will leave room for those what will obey, and pay.

How many times on these boards to people brag that Carnival sails their ships full for every cruise? If that is the case, than a waiting line should be available to fill those slots of disgruntled people. In addition, by eliminating the smugglers and opening up those future slots, they will increase their revenue and keep the prices low for everyone else. Once word gets out, people will be a little more reluctant to break the contract. If by chance they do not fill empty rooms, than they will just raise the price. The faithful will continue to use them regardless.

These answers are ridiculous. If we are to accept this rational then carnival would only allow drinkers on their ship. To say they don't make money off of non drinkers is plain silly. I've spent more in the casino on one sailing then most spend on booze in 10 sailings.

  11. Thanks for the reply. Didn't even think about Uber. Great idea and <$10 to avoid waiting for the shuttle and arriving at their lot with another dozen people would be a bargain. We're visiting family upon our return for a few days so no direct trip back to the airport. Would think it would be simpler to have just one of us go get the car and then pick up the significant other and luggage back at the cruise line after renting the car? No way an Uber driver will have the room for all the luggage my wife hauls around with us. (whoops, did I say that out loud?)

  12. Hi, we have an upcoming cruise out of Port Canaveral in November. The plan is to arrive Orlando on a Sat, drive to the cruise terminal Sunday morning, drop off the significant other with the luggage at the cruise line, go turn the car in at the rental office in Cape Canaveral, and the catch a shuttle back to the cruise line. When we return on Thursday the plan is to do the same in reverse. I have a very good rental discount from work with Avis and Budget and can use either company as after pricing them both with the same car they were within $8 of each other.

I have read horror stories of people getting jammed up on cruise day at car rental companies in Port Canaveral. Understaffed, slow shuttles, cars not available even with a paid for reservation. I understand with so many people on cruise days these things are bound to happen but I sure would like to minimize if possible. Any tips from the pros that utilize the Port Canaveral terminal? Anyone with experience for Avis and/or Budget?

  13. I'll help out here. We just got off the ship this morning. Great ship and crew. Had a great time.

#2450 Carnival Breeze... This room is huge compared to your standard Ocean View. There are a few negatives but in our opinion not enough of a problem for us that the extra room didn't more than make up for it. Others have mentioned the thruster noise when docking at port. It will wake you. It is only during docking and leaving and IMO not a big deal. I also noticed throughout the cruise a constant faint knocking noise. Sorta like someone hitting a pipe off in the distance. It was pretty consistent..about every 6-7 seconds. My wife was not bothered by it but I did lay awake a little longer one or two nights because of it. Kinda like a dripping faucet, not a huge problem but irritating just the same.

There was only one 110 electrical outlet with two plugins located on the desk. The electrical outlets behind the bed have the two night stand lights plugged into them and they appear to be 220v outlets. If you will have a need to plug in a fan, cpap machine or any other electrical item by the bed you will need an extension cord. We ran an extension cord to the bed from one of the two outlets at the desk and used a power strip outlet. We also used another power strip at the desk so we had multiple outlets for phone chargers and such. I will warn you, if you do run an extension cord from the desk to the bed be careful if you get up in the middle of the night without turning on a light. Its not fun tripping over it.

Here are a couple of pictures from both sides of the room. I did take a video and will have a look at it today. If I think its worthy I'll add it to this post. Again, great roomy room. We'd book it again.
