If that rag has been soaked in a sanitizing solution like Virkon or any of the EPA approved effective agents against noro for use on surfaces, then there really isn't a problem. These solutions, and this is what would be used in the medical center, even when there is not a noro outbreak, are far and away stronger than your typical household "Lysol" brand disinfectant. These agents have a proven contact time of mere seconds against noro and other viruses. And I doubt that the rag was used to clean the bowl.
but I don't believe that if you wash the toilet and then the desk area that it is going to be clean- I don't care what solution is on the rag

Don't leave us hanging. Humor us.
how about wiping down a clean area with the same rag that they just used in the bathroom??

I was on the sunshine 2 weeks ago when they had their outbreak. I can tell you that I am a faithful hand washer and use the sanitizers as well. I spent 2 days in the medical center and then was taken by ambulance to the ER upon debarking the ship. We were given port fees for compensation for the amount of days you were isolated. I can tell you that the cleaning methods that I saw while in the medical center would do nothing to prevent the spread of norovirus but in fact would help to spread it and I have filed a complaint with carnival and the CDC

it was on the sunshine for the cruise 2/21-3/5 I know because I had it

He's talking about the sanitizer's set up, not hand washing stations with soap and water. There are no hand washing stations around Carnival's ships. Unless someone has seen portable sinks set up around the buffet. I won't use the sanitizer and would not like being told I had to. Especially since it won't stop Noro abd kills good bacteria.
I beg to differ with you- there are definitely hand washing stations on the sunshine. It is a machine that you put your hands into- the soap and water do all the work - all you do is leave your hands in there until it stops- the problem I see is that there is no friction and it is a 12-15 second wash- not nearly enough- I am here to tell you that I was on that noro cruise and I washed my hands constantly with soap and water and still got really sick requiring a stay in the medical centre and ambulance ride to the hospital when we got back into port- we knew we had a problem when they started with overhead announcements about hand washing and letters being left in our cabins

Port has been opened. No explanation given for the delay. There were a variety of port / immigration officials that boarded initially.
Steven- were you passengers notified when you boarded that there had been norovirus on the last cruise?
-
yes there was on the previous sailing that ended 3/5
-
Update:
Captain just stated that he has pushed back the departure until 5 pm tonight; this gives passengers an extra hour in Curacao.
Unfortunately, we are still on the ship. Port is still closed.
Updates to follow...
has anyone seen health officials on board? that is what happened to us on the sailing just before the one you are on now- health officials boarded at our first port (st martin)- we were allowed to go ashore but then we found out there was norovirus going around
-
I am looking for information from anyone who got off the sunshine on February 21. That is the day we boarded setting sail for 2 days at sea. I understand that health officials boarded on our first port day in St Martin. I am wondering if there was any illness on the cruise that ended the day we embarked

yes the noro virus is bad. I was one of the many persons that was affected. I made 4-5 trips to the medical center for treatment over the last 3 days of the cruise for medication and IV fluid for dehydration . The last time I went down they kept me until the end of the last day of the cruise and then sent me to the hospital by ambulance upon debarkation. I am still sick and it has been 6 days. Having spent that much time in the medical center I can tell you (as a health care professional) that I was not impressed with the cleaning techniques that I observed by some of the housekeeping staff- enough said

We were on the conquest last week on the spa floor. There are no extra spa benefits. But we thought the location was great. We could walk outside and easily get to the lido deck and pools. It was extra quiet. The only issue we had was the plexi glass starts above room 1110 and we were in 1108 so people were able to look down on our balcony. Not a big problem though.
we are in this room on the freedom next month- do you have any pictures that you could share??

I too had my first BBC on RCL. It is bananas (yes fresh bananas) bailey's irish cream and colada mix. I got the recipe before the end of that first cruise so I could make them at home. ( they don't really taste the same- I think it was because I was missing the atmosphere) ENJOY!!!
