  1. July 17th the Sun is in beautiful Vancouver where she ends and begins her next adventure. As everyone following knows, my wife and I have traveled on the Sun vicariously with our daughter Casey, but on July 17th the Sun has a very distinct opportunity we at home can not participate in....the Sun took Casey across the Equator, around the Horn and through the Canal....Casey celebrated Christmas and Thanksgiving and New Years on the Sun, without her family for the first time ever....the Sun has been Casey's home and her love for almost a year, and again we must leave her in the capable hands of the ship to be there for Casey's 21st birthday.... Yes, our little rock star turns 21 tomorrow, and although we will not be with her, we know she will be celebrating yet another milestone aboard the Sun..

As always, thanks all for listening and see you on the high seas soon!!!

  2. Thanks ljrfrm! Any Casey sighting we can read about only makes us smile! Yes indeed, she has been REALLY busy....our girls are leaving Ketchikan tonight--07-15-- on the way to Vancouver--where If I am not mistaken JohnsBride23 is boarding for a honeymoon? Also.....If anyone sees Casey can you tell her to please call her mother!! lol and thanks all!

  3. Cool cool Sparling!! Thank you for the update. Yeah, this contract run is kicking Casey's butt of late--she has been Soooo busy! We can usually talk once a week when she is in "American" waters, but not of late....And yeah, it still amazes me of all the photos she sends us--she is ALWAYS beaming with smiles....as busy as she is, she really LOVES her job on the Sun....Thanks again to you and every one else keeping mom and dad updated and giving US a "different perspective" from the Sun......

  4. Wow and just wow---way to go newATL!! you made me and my wife's day! Amazing! And glad to hear that Casey took some good photos for your family. For all the hours EVERYONE on a cruise ship works, and to be able to maintain such a positive attitude and SMILE like they do--it is why we all love cruising....We miss our little rock star so much, and this Alaskan leg has been her busiest by far, but to see your picture with her and the smiles on both of your faces....again....this is what cruising is all about. Thanks sooo much for posting newATL!

  5. Hello all! As the Sun casually makes her way up the coastal shores of North America, picking up and dropping off happy cruisers, back at home here in south Florida Casey's brother graduated graduated High School this weekend. She really wished she could have been here, but as the Sun does not stop moving neither could she....

Mary--Casey was sorry not to make your groups MnG--she was on a very long work week and had crashed out and slept through--My wife and I just spoke with her from Skagway-- they are sooo busy and any down time is spent in the bunk catching up on sleep! I did learn that Cruise Critic scheduled meet and greet times and locations are given to the staff--it seems that NCL values our CC patrons!--and Casey did say she will do her best to be at future events....

poly3503--that is so amazing--I would LOVE to see some of those pictures on here! It is neat hearing you say that about the staff--Casey truly loves her job and anyone who has had her take their picture will agree!

Debnjoe--I sent a text to Casey asking about George and will let you know what she says...your cruise is the end of September when Casey finishes her 2nd tour--I hope she is still on board when you board!

With school finished and summer upon us things are slowing down here sunny So Fla....ty ty ! Me and my wife can get back to the uncrowded golf courses where we will battle the heat, rain and our rusty swings as Casey and the Sun enjoy the "frigid" Alaskan air. And for everyone awaiting future embarkation dates on the Sun I will again thank you in advance for saying hello to her from us....

  6. Mary your Meet and Greet is covered! Casey will be there--I can not wait to hear back from her and from you and all the others! OMGoodness, this gives me and my wife such warm fuzzies knowing you all are going to be able to meet her and say hello! Thanks again to all! (I have a list of every one who posts MnG times and locations for Casey to show up an take photos for the future! Thanks All!

  7. UPDATE::: Our Girls are in San Diego! It is 10:30 EST here in South Florida and we are waiting for Casey's first phone call in over two weeks! I will update her on our CC info--Mary (OceanDreaming2)--your big meet and greet is May 16th, 11:00am in LasRamblas, correct?

ljrfrm--with the hubby that WILL smile--I have your M-n-G July 4th 11:00am at LasRamblas ......Sparling are you at that meet and greet?

I have ohJinkies solo cruising on June 5th from Vancouver--73t9gl boarding June 26th from Seward presumably along side shukapaw? The HONEYMOON cruisers, johnsBride23 on July17th from Vancouver---iLovelucy July 10th from Seward (six peeps--great photo ops!) ....

OH, and Landl cruiser--your March of 2018 cruise will see Casey back on board after she finishes her current contract and takes on another.....And debnjoe, your end of September cruise will be around the time Casey finishes her current tour, so not certain if she will be aboard....

    PHEW! Did I miss anyone?

Now that the Sun is in more "local" waters we will be able to speak more frequently with our little Rock Star....Please don't forget the "Best Selfie with Casey" contest (That I just made up but I know you all get it!)!! And thanks again so much for saying hello to Casey from mom and dad--it is really nice knowing we can reach out to her through fellow cruisers and put a smile on her face ....and as always, thanks for listening.....

  8. Hey Hey Cruisers!! The Sun and Casey have crossed the equator and are trudging north, leaving Corinto , on Nicaragua's northwest Pacific coast today (This is Nicaragua's largest and single Pacific cargo port for commercial shipping.), sidelining into her next concrete birth at Puerto Quetza, Guatemala--the largest Pacific Ocean port of Guatemala, before she makes a few quick stops in Mexico--The Port Chiapas and then Huatulco (aka Bahias de Huatulco), a beautiful port town and tourist development in Oaxaca, Mexico, south of Acapulco, and then after a couple of sea days into Cabo San Lucas. Two more days at sea and our girls will be getting WiFi in San Diego! Yeah!!!!!

Casey's last text to mom and dad was a mix of sad and happy--she loves South America and will miss her time there--but she is heading "home", to Alaskan FUN, where she first boarded the Sun in August of 2106.

And.... she is now THAT much closer to all of you on CC with embarkation dates coming up soon! Those of you following my thread and promising to say hello to Casey--I can not wait to hear her say "DAD! What did you do! All these people are saying hello to me!"

It is Casey's job as ships photographer to take YOUR pictures, but how amazing would it be for those cruising the Sun in the next few months to take a "selfie" with Casey--make her get in YOUR picture--and then post it here! Teheee.....

There's a lot of time left on her contract as she continues--Casey loves her job and I know those who meet her will see that. As we near the Cally coast and head north this will get more interesting, for certain!

And thanks again all for listening....

  9. Jinkies--(Love the nik!)....You MUST get a selfie of you and Casey and post it here! (I guess that goes for every one else too--MAKE MY DAY!! Heh....)

And WOW Sparling--gonna have to tell Casey to get the wide angle lens to fit you all in on one photo! tehee....

Both girls are working their way NORTH! Wehee....lots of Alaska in the future with lots of you boarding for what will be AMAZING trips! We can not wait--I am almost as excited as you all and I'll be sitting at home cruising vicariously as I do....and thanks again for listening, keep me updated on your dates and any Meet and Greets! (Awaiting updates from Casey--will pass them and any photos on as we go....)

  10. Sparling--you have a family of EIGHT you said cruising the Sun July 3rd? Amazing! I will give her plenty of notice to look for you all!

73t9g1--June 26--got it, consider your pics VIP from Casey, and thanks again for the HELLO's!!

We just got an update from our little Rock Star--After leaving Punta Arenas (Chile Antarctica) the 19th, the Sun had two rough days at sea on her way to Puerto Chacabuco, Chile. Casey texted mom to say the ship was "tilting" more than she had ever experienced! Items in her room were "flying off the shelf"! Sea days are always more work for most of the staff, but Casey said they were making the best of it and looking forward to the next port.

The Chilean Fjords (Patagonia) are such a unique destination (I do not remember THIS part of South America in history lessons!)--last year before Casey cruised south from Mexico I had researched Chile and the Sun's ports of call--from the quaint Puerto Montt settled by German colonists in 1852 and and the Orsono Volcano--. to Valparaiso in Santiago with their recently modernized cruise terminal--this leg of the Sun's itinerary is truly distinct, and Casey absolutely loves this part of South America. Hopefully she gets some good WiFi and can send some pics and update us all!

Again, thanks all for listening and I promise to upload more pics in exchange for the Casey shout outs!

  11. Wow and thanks for all the replies and for the future shout outs to Casey! gravitar--what a great Idea--I will check with her but I see no reason why she could not shoot all the CC meet and greets! I think NCL would be amiss for not having a photographer at all CC meets. TO ALL:::If you have a scheduled meet and greet on the Sun before September let me know time and location and I will try to have Casey shoot it (Oh wait, I can just go to the meet and greet page for that, right? Dang, this newb is catching on!).

ljrfrm--Can I stack the deck and fore warn Casey about the couple boarding July 3rd and a hubby that does not smile? tehee.....I think I will....She loves a challenge!! ;p

debnjoe1438 Unfortunately for Casey she leaves the Sun in October before the PC transit, however she did cross it last October and we were able to visit her on the ship in Miami (We live in Fort Myers 2.5 hours from the Port.). AND she got to do it AGAIN after embarking Miami heading back to Mexico! She was so amazed to have done the transit not once but twice and really appreciated the opportunity. :D

The Sun is in the Falkland Islands today, Easter Sunday--the first Easter Sunday ever without our daughter and the first Easter we are not all together at Mom's coloring eggs (Yes, our family still colors eggs!) and eating a tremendous and wonderful meal. But no worries, I have the skills and will be making stuffed Cornish Game Hens with all the fixings (I know every one likes food pics in here, and I guess it's time I step up my game and figure out how to upload photos here--maybe I will "practice" that with tonight's dinner pics! tehee....I will probably be the first person to post non TRIP related pics of food in here...heh...).

Thanks again for listening all--sending love to Casey....and Happy Easter!!:halo:

  12. TY fan1967. In my limited experience on CC I am sure you could get a great answer to that question cruising the Sun boards--there are some EXCELLENT trip reports from the Alaskan leg with great info. My daughter has limited experience off the ship--the time she has is usually spent shopping! But check out the Sun trip reports, I think you will find what you're looking for there!

  13. Hello Sun Lovers!! For those familiar with my previous "New Perspective" thread, you know what this means right? Casey is back on board the Sun for another six month "tour" of fun in the..SUN! For anyone unfamiliar with our daughter Casey is a photographer on the NCL Sun and is just beginning her 2nd contract on the ship. I began my first thread at the end of her first tour from August--February/Alaska to South America (See previous thread) as a newbie "thread starter"--lurking is fun but this is MORE fun! I only wish I had started doing this earlier (I am still new to this but learning all the time....).

After an all too quick six week "vacation"// visit home, Casey flew out of Fort Myers, Fl to Buenos Aries where she boarded the Sun on Monday 4/10/17, but what an amazing time we all had with her while she was home! Listening to the details of her adventure, in between her travels up/down/across the state to visit with family and friends filled the days, but the highlight of her time home was our family "vacation" on the NCL Jade the first of March--this would be the Jade's final cruise before dry dock renovations. This was Casey's idea and she was really looking forward to cruising as a passenger, and what a time it was (This was also her younger brothers first cruise.)! The trip was awesome in so many ways and listening to Casey's comments with her "insider" knowledge had me and my wife smiling the entire trip (After an hour in a line that would take three to embark:::Casey to family...."Now I know why guests are not too happy to get embarkation photos!":o....followed by the occasional "grrrrrrr"). We were not on the ship long before "I miss my Sun!", and "Uh! I want to be back on my ship!" became more frequent comments:hearteyes:--but we had an exceptional "tour" guide and that cruise will always stand out in our memories.

While she was home Casey started a blog--http://www.happiworldtraveler.co--about her first tour and plans on doing her best to keep it updated with prose and photos as the Sun cruises along. Many of you--MellyMel612--nw gardener--cuterlmt--davesgirl51--have responded with future dates booked on the Sun and I thank you along with everyone else who will be aboard for saying hello to Casey! She will take your picture--that is her job--but she will also take the time to get to know you. Thanks for listening and most of all....ENJOY YOUR CRUISE!:hearteyes::ship:

  14. Lol cuter! YES! She will get at least ONE photo of you that you will like! davesgirl you are boarding at a great time! I am going to start a new thread for her new cruise with a link to her NEW blog that is amazing to read--not just a proud dad saying that--her writing prose has a unique, urban? Gritty? sincere? innocent? quality.....And then for SURE you'll recognize her when you are on the Sun--and most important....ENJOY YOUR CRUISE ALL!!!!

  15. Quick update and for anyone sailing on the Sun in the next six months--Casey is back on board after a very quick six week visit home, but she is so excited to be sailing again...Melly--nw gardner--cutterlmt--you can not miss Casey when you cruise the Sun--she will have her lens pointed in your direction plenty of times--and thank you so much for shouting out at her! Like all of the Sun employees she loves her job and will do her best to take you some memorable photos!

  16. Oh yeah, forgot to mention--my daughter Casey works for NCL--she just got off the Sun from a six month contract (photographer)--(see my post on the SUN page)-- and she Face Booked up with our steward who sent her pics this morning of the Jade in port with a HUGE dumpster overboard filling up with all sorts of debris and the decks getting stripped--pretty cool...(I also saw a link in here someone posted on the U Tubes--time lapse of dry dock renovation on a ship...)

  17. lol the only time I visited the atrium bar--Aloha?--was because they were the first bar to open early-- before the casino bar--bloody mary anyone? Tehee....We did catch TWO shows--a record for us. The comedian and the juggling dood--both were good, but not as much fun as helping raise NCL's stock prices by donating to the one arm bandits!! :o

  18. Our family of four left the Jade this morning--03/10--and passed by a large crowd of workers waiting to get on the ship--obviously to help with the "refurb". Several crew members said it would be a three week dry dock--which is amazing! We like "smaller" ships, and the Jade is SOOOOOoooo cozy! (Although the "spring break" crowd on this cruise perpetuated some extended wait times for a drink--lol--the food on Jade is amazing--you can read more on others reviews, but once out of dry dock the girl is gonna be kicking it large!)

  19. Okay so just to finalize before heading over to the "Jade" wall, Casey and our family had an amazing time on this cruise to Costa Maya --she is now "Ship Sick" and can not wait to get back on the Sun mid April when she begins her next six month tour of duty....But it was great watching her meet up with other crew she knew; watching her strut with the other photographers--making sure mom dad and son posed for PLENTY of pictures! All in all great trip I'll post more on Jade's wall....
