  1. I never recommend Harborside as there is ONLY ONE left turn lane into port - this backs up.,

Continue on Hwy 45 onto Broadway to 21st., Left on 21st to Harborside then left on Harborside at light to port entry,'You are entering Harborside from the back side where there is little traffic.

    Well......there was little traffic

  2. we are flying in on Thursday for our Saturday cruise. We are spending 2 nights at the Harbor House. This will be first visit so what are the not to be missed things to do for one day?
This weekend is The Shrimp Festival on The Strand.

    http://www.galvestonIslandshrimp festival.Com

It starts Friday, so you're in luck.

You can walk right to it,from your hotel. It's only a few hundred feet away

If you don't like shrimp and gumbo. There will be other vendors there. You don't want to pass up the lamb gyros.... they're excellent

  3. Best hotel (with shuttle) to stay with kids ages 3 and 6

We're arriving in HOU at 10:30am, so figure we have 1/2 a day to spend in Galveston.

I know Moody Gardens is not on the beach area but is there enough stuff to do there? What (if any) are transport options (other than Uber/taxi) from moody gardens to the downtown or to the main beach street? (sorry if I'm not referring to the right names).

Are there any cool boutique style hotels?

In general are there any bus/shuttle options around the area? (I'm not bringing car seat)

Best activities to do at the end of the cruise - we don't have to be back to HOU until about 4:30pm I read about cruise stop holding luggage -- is there anything around there or will we have to taxi/uber?

    Thank you!

You say you want to know about a cool Boutique Hotel.

    Try the Tremont house.

It's a nice hotel. It has a jazz bar downstairs with a Starbucks. Has a rooftop bar, which is fantastic at night. And you won't even need a car to get around, because you're in the middle of everything.

They're not going to have all the entertainment for the kids though like Moody Gardens. We stop by frequently for cocktails and Rooftop Bar visit. I can't say I've seen small kids around there, but there are plenty of teenagers.

  4. I wonder how they're going to improve Harborside also. Can't really make any wider. Maybe in certain areas. But not the whole length down to Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

  5. You can buy a 12-pack of soda at Frankie's. It might cost you a fortune though. That place is ridiculously expensive.

The for sale sign, has been there for years. It's only the business. Not the building.

You can also buy the drinks at the Cruise Stop. It's at 25th and Strand.

  6. As of right now. 8PM CDT.

There are no flooded cruise ship parking lots. And none have flooded. That includes Lighthouse,Dolphin and Port parking.Only the roads are somewhat flooded.

    Sunday can be completely different.

  7. That's a 40-mile trip one way. From Hobby to Galveston.

Unless you're staying in the penthouse on top of the San Luis Hotel. I can't imagine any hotel in Galveston, going to pick you up, that far away, and bring you back to town. I think Uber will be the way to go for you.

  8. I'm going to Second Willie G's too. We bring all the out-of-towners here first .it's just a good atmosphere. Excellent drinks. I never have to worry if something's going to go wrong .

We always use the Open Table app. So our table is ready when we get there.

Because it's usually very busy at the Pearl for a small place .The lines are incredibly long and it's hot. And the food just not worth waiting 45 minutes to eat. It's a pretty good place for hipsters though .Hipsters don't mind spending 45 minutes in a line for dinner.

  9. Well thieves also break in to beaters too. Probably more often than nice cars.

You also have to worry about somebody sideswiping your car.Or plowing into the back of it. Which happens a lot down here.

I could see an overnight stay or two. But for 5 or 7 days my car sitting down a street in town I'm not even familiar with, no way.

In my opinion 65 to $80 for the week. Is a whole lot cheaper than anything a thief could do or a car hitting your car.

  10. You're going to get the best information on TripAdvisor. And then click on things to do. Not really sure how much time you have to spend on the island. When you get to TripAdvisor. If you click on Galveston Island forums. More of your questions can be answered there.

  11. So we booked with Caveman.Just use Caveman's website. They will give you all the links for the water taxis. You gain an hour while you are in their timezone. This helps tremendously.

Tell them you want to do the 5-Hour tour. And they will make sure that you get back on time. Even if it's 4 hours and 10 minutes or 4 hours and 30 minutes. They will make sure you see everything in your allotted time.

You are going from the ship by tender.Get onshore, and walk about 7to 8 minutes to the water taxis. Bring your prepaid printed receipt. Then you will sign for it and get on the taxi. Then you got a 45 minute boat ride to key Caulker. The ferry runs at 25mph.You will appreciate the breeze. It is incredibly hot there.

Once you get off the water taxi on Key Caulker. You are going to walk about 5 minutes up to Caveman Snorkeling. Caveman's name is Harrison. For the most part part he handles all the transactions online and plus you'll probably meet him while you're there. He is very polite. So don't hesitate to ask questions.

Whatever you do.Try to schedule with Skipper Ronnie and his first mate Allwin. These are a couple of very knowledgeable, polite and patient folks. We did a private tour. There was just 4 of us.So we avoided all the tourist boats with 30 people on-board. These guys are naturals in the water.Incredible free divers. If you have a Go Pro. Ronnie will take it and get great footage for you. They took us to swim with manatees, sharks, rays, sea turtles and reef fish.I recorded all of our tracks that day,on marine navigation software. We ran over 70 miles from the time we got off the ship and back on.I recommend get plenty of rest the night before. Its going to be a big day.

I have more info,if you have more questions.
