Has anyone experienced delayed disembarkation in San Pedro recently?

It seems like delayed disembarkation is a permanent change for Emerald Princess in the LA, San Pedro Terminal. I see Princess Posting and believe it, but, I always want to know the situation. I know that there are limited immigration officer stations. Are there fewer officers available? Have some been transferred to the Mexico border?

We have a 1:30 flight booked through EZ Air and Princess shuttle so they will get us rebooked.

For those with early flights, hope the disembarkation goes smoothly.

Boarding did not begin until 3 pm for our cruise from San Pedro on Dec 3.  We had no advance notification and 3000 were sitting/standing at the terminal for hours until they could get the ship cleared.  It was a nightmare.

Going to Alaska on the Emerald in May. We are in a mini suite so need to book the TS separately. Is it able to be booked ahead? I can’t see it on the princess site.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

On our Emerald cruise leaving Tuesday, it is available to book ahead.  Just can't use OBC.  Not sure if this is on all sailings or not.  This is new.  Never been able to book ahead before.

    Yup.

That extension cord is likely to end up stretched across the cabin floor to where the TV gets its power.  Consider a roll of duct tape to prevent tripping.  Also, ships' extension cords invariably have a single socket -- consider packing a triple-tap to plug into the end and allow you to plug in cellphone, etc, chargers near your pillow.

...and, unlike HAL, Princess does not charge for the gallon of distilled water.

On our Regal cruise in February our steward provided the duct tape.  You do not have to bring your own.  Not sure about extension cord as we always bring our own.

We are cruising to the Panama Canal in October 2019.  I just consulted with our local travel medicine experts and because we had scheduled an excursion to see the Embera Indian Village outside of the canal, and because of our ages, I would need to be immunized for Yellow Fever, but my husband would be unable to because of his age.  The immunization is hard to obtain, I would need to drive 4 hours to get it.  It has severe side effects listed.  Because of this, we opted not to do this excursion.  I am disappointed. However, I would really like to hear from others who have done excursions on the 10-day round trip partial transit Panama Canal Cruise.  We are interested in the locks and history.  I do not want to sit on a bus or train for long periods of time.  Thanks for your input.

I am unable to have the vaccine.  Our local travel medicine expert advised that I should spray my clothes with permetherin and use mosquito repellent with Deet on any exposed skin.  We also plan on seeing the Embera Indian Village.  I am sure this would be adequate for you also.

Anyone know if it would be a problem in St Petersburg? Have a picky kid and it would be helpful to have some food to bring off in case he doesn't like anything at the restaurants.

DH and I were in St Petersburg last summer.  Although it was stated no food off the ship, we had kind bars in our backpacks and no one checked.  No x-ray on exit from ship.  Bags were checked when returning to the ship.  I would think as long as it is in original wrapping it would be ok.  You might run in to trouble with fresh fruit though.

  7. We've been on the Regal twice.  Once in July 2018 for a Baltic Cruise and then February 2019 Eastern Caribbean.  We absolutely love the ship.  We had no problem with service or the food.  Between the Main Dining Room and the Buffet, we were always able to find something to our liking.  The Pizza at Alfredo's is great!  Go and enjoy your cruise.

You do realize this is based on your own Internet plan.  About 3 years ago we spoke with a few entertainers on a European HAL cruise who quickly convinced us we should change our cell provider to TMobile.  So a few months later we purchased the Tmobile Senior plan which cost $55 a month (total for DW and me) which gave us unlimited phone, data and text.  But the best part (for travelers) is that this included coverage in over 140 countries with zero roaming charges.  When outside North America we pay 25 cents a min for phone service but data and text are no additional charge.  As to Alaska, it is just one more State and included as is Canada and Mexico

For those that might travel a few days a year, it is probably best to live with what you have.  But for those of use who do a lot of travel it is hard to beat T-Mobile.  But I am puzzled by any US Plan that would charge roaming fees in Alaska.  Other then some of the really cheap no-name plans just about everyone offers nationwide coverage.

    Hank

Same thing with Sprint, but the monthly charges are higher.  We used our cellphone in the Baltics, including St. Petersburg with no roaming charges what so ever.

They are at the desk as in the photo.

In addition to the ones on the desk, there is also one on the back of the TV.  We were surprised when our steward used that one to plug in the extension cord for our CPAP machine in February.   It allowed the extension cord to be next to the wall and we didn't need to tape it to the floor!

Hearing from someone on a medallion ship that they are still required to carry both the medallion and a cruise card off of the ship in order to return. I would have thought the medallion would take the place of the cruise card all together and photo id used to re-enter port area?  Anyone with first hand info from Regal or Caribbean cruises that have been doing it for a while? Apparantly folks on the Royal cruise are being told that they must have both a card and medallion.    thanks.

We were on the Regal in February.  Our cruise had both the medallion and cruise card.  Never used the cruise card and was told by the IT dept head that our cruise was the last with both.  The next cruise and beyond would be medallion only.

Thanks so much that helps alot!  I was planning on the 7:15 time but was thinking I was going straight to the gangway. So just for clarity is the group just random people who show up at the staging area at the  same time or an organized group? We are with a tour but have no idea who is in our group for the tour, the tour company is organizing the groups.

Random people who show up at staging.  Once you get through customs, the tour companies all have agents with signs and they will direct you to where you need to be.  Don't sweat it.  There were 5 ships in port when we arrived and the whole process took us 45-50 minutes.  We were through customs in plenty of time for our 8:30 tour.  Have a great time.

Thank you. Princess has tours scheduled to depart at varying times from 7 am until 9:30 am. Our tour departs at 8:30 am. So we need to leave before all Princess tours depart. The directions from the tour company say the customs people don't care what tour we are on and that Princess cannot detain us. Just trying to figure out what is fact and what is rumor.

We were in St. Petersburg in July 2018.  This rumor was all over the boards back then.  It was not true!  Princess had everyone report to a staging area where you are assigned a group number.  We waited about 10 minutes for our group to be called.  Russian customs didn't know or care what group we were in.  The only issue is whether your tour guide can enter the area where you are to be picked up.  If they scheduled you for 8:30 am, just get to the staging area by 7:15 to give you enough time to clear customs on the first day.  The second day is a breeze.

  13. Update:  Regal Princess has a new contact person

    Berna Grayr  <bgrayr@princesscruises.com>

    Group Onboard Service Coordinator

    Regal Princess and Coral Princess

    Hours: 7:30 am - 4:15 pm, Monday - Friday

    I did not get a phone #.

Also, this was included in the email:

All passengers are responsible for their own drinks.  You have been named as the escort for this request.  You will be receiving a confirmation in your cabin, however, it will be your responsibility to advise the other passengers when and where the Meet and Greet will take place.  Please let me know if the number of passengers attending this event changes so that we will have the appropriate bar staff.

If a guest is booked on a promotion that includes the All Inclusive Beverage Package or Premier Beverage Package, or if a guest purchases the Premier Beverage Package, then they will not be able to use this promotion at this venue.  These packages cannot offset the cost of, or be a substitution for special or private events, such as cocktail parties or similar functions.

If you intend to invite any Senior Officers to attend the Meet & Greet, the staff onboard the Regal Princess has requested that you bring formal personal invitations to the Passenger Service Desk.  They will help you address the invitations and send them out to the respective Officers.

I'll check with the Maitre d'Hotel once onboard to see if we can get any goodies!

  14. We went to Alaska in 2008 and took a cruisetour through Princess.   I don't know if things have changed much, but we are planning a second trip to Alaska and will probably just rent a car and do it on our own.  The tour we took used the train, which was never on time.  We hung around waiting for the train on numerous occasions.  The Princess properties were very nice, but we found them to be placed well away from towns so spent time shuttling to and from.  Like I said earlier, if you don't mind the extra planning, rent a car and do it on your own.  It's not like you are in  foreign country ! :-)
