  1. Hi

We only have one day and looking at a North Island trip and also a South island trip and cannot make my mind up between them. Any recommendations on which is best- we are more history and active people than lying on a beach? Tours are with Beyond the Beach. Thanks

The South encompasses Les Trois Ilets, where the famous pottery village is. Re-board the transportation to the second stop, Les Anses d’Arlet,  Here you may view the recently renovated steeple of this famous church located directly in front of the beach. Alternatively, you may choose to relax on the fine white sand beach, swim or even snorkel! Once you have soaked up the sun you will be on your way to a viewpoint overlooking Diamond Rock. Then we head to Cap 110, a memorial erected in memory of slavery. After that we will make a stop in a local market to discover local fruits, spices and so much more! Your final stop will be at a local rum distiller -Trois Rivieres Distillery

The North is the Neisson Rum distillery located in Le Carbet. TThe next stop will be the Carbet Beach, a wide beach with calm sea, transparent waters and black sand. You can relax while looking at the sea, at the Mount Pelée or maybe refresh yourself by swimming a bit.

Then you will discover the ruins of Saint Pierre. Once destroyed by the volcano,  You will be then at the foot of the volcano where Saint Pierre, the “Little Paris of the Antilles” is. Then you will continue following the Route de la Trace to delight yourself with Martinique’s nature.

The next stop will be the Saut Gendarme Waterfalls. You will have to do a very easy and short hike to arrive at the waterfall, once there you will be charmed not only by the tropical forest but also by the clear waters of the waterfall. After that, the next stop will be the Alma River, and visit an amazing sight of the tropical foliage mixed with this fantastic building, the Sacred Heart Church, also known as Balata Church.

  2. Hi- looking at a tour option (with some of those recommended on the forum) or taking the ferry to Toi Islet. Anyone got any opinions? we are not really lying on the beach people so prefer to wander around nice towns, see some scenery etc. but also quite independent travelers so happy to DIY local transport. From wat i have read there doesn't  seem to be much to in port so keen to get out and explore as not an island we have done before.

All suggestions welcome (we are there on a Friday in November).

    thanks

    Kathleen

  3. Ah fab thanks- we fly in and out of Miami so not much choice where we hire but definitely appreciate the guidance re just all heading to hire car drop off then to port. Hoping our friends who have lived in the  US for 20 years but regularly back in the UK can take over at this point!

(anyone coming to Scotland/UK  let me know and I can return the favour!)

  4. Hi,

We are arriving to stay in Florida for a few days prior to the cruise so will pick up a hire car at Miami airport, drive to Bradenton, stay there fro a few days and then drive back (our hosts coming on cruise too). Plan is my husband drops 3 of us off at the port with luggage then heads to drop off car and gets a transfer/uber back. What is the most cost effective method (it will be November and heading on to the Equinox)?

    thanks

  5. Hi,

We have had an annual travel insurance policy with Aviva for many years and no issues with my husband's pre existing heart Arrhythmia ( had since a child, stable and done 38 years in RAF so not an issue!). He has had one stroke but due to a birth defect called a PFO and over 8 years ago so that no longer causes an issue.

We have had worldwide cover to date with no issues but when I try to add on US of our Caribbean cruise in Nov they won't cover his heart condition ( will cover everything else) and suggested we get cover just for that element but no joy. The cost of a single trip for him is coming up at over £450 on cheapest cover which is  more expensive than our couples annual policy! We have tried Saga, All Clear and RSA.

We want to be able to go Stateside or Canada on our travels and so would be great to find a cost effective option. Happy with high excess if necessary.

    thanks

  6. Another recommendation  for Taourmina- grab a cab from the port to the railway station and get the train. Easy to check times on line and then likewise when there grab a taxi as steep hill up to the town. Lovely gardens to visit too. When we were there just before Trump visited for G8 so we had the benefit of watching every type of Italian military parade around too and the town was spruced up beyond belief!

We did the same thing several years ago with our extended family for MIL's 80th birthday and we went with NCL for the itinerary/overall price/package. Having usually cruised Celebrity or RCL we felt NCL was a little bit downmarket....a bit football shirt city in some places!

Although we really enjoyed it because of the itinerary and entertainment I don't think we would do it again and would prefer to pay the extra.

Evita- thansk and thank all you guys- you never let me down with great info! We booked Celebrity in the end and as doing a  cruise from the UK for 8 nights tehre are no flights and lots of offers on we are treating them to balcony cabins so should be fun.

@katie64 You can book via a US TA from the UK most of the big online ones have a box to tick to say you are out of the US. Obviously exchange rates can be an issue and always check for final cost including taxes and fees.

We book with Celebrity direct as we get a 10% discount by using a Blue Light Card. If we are sailing from the UK we then transfer to our online TA as they give us port parking. We often book onboard to get some extra OBC and low deposit

thanks as for the first time we are cruising from Southampton so port parking would be ideal
