  1. We'll be there next weekend...hoping we can dock. I've been on several Disney cruises and I've missed being able to dock at least twice. I'll have my daughter, her husband, and my 11 year old grandson with me. REALLY hoping we can dock at the island. The weather calls for 80 degrees and partly cloudy. Wind 18 mph

  2. Oh, dear, it sounds like the RCI beds are still concrete blocks. Sigh. I was hoping that by now they would have replaced them. I was going to try the Oasis again, but I CANNOT sleep on those hard mattresses. It would ruin the whole cruise. I've tried toppers but they are no help. I wonder if I could bring an actual small mattress aboard? I don't have to fly to get to the port...

  3. THANK you, everyone, for responding. I've decided, after reading many reviews on several sites, that I should skip this cruise. It seems that there is engine noise (creaking/banging/stuttering) ) or cleaning crew (2nd floors) or some matter of disturbing noise (pool, dining rooms, theater) no matter the floor or the area of the ship. I've been on the Dream a couple times and never had noise issues - perhaps because it's a bigger and newer ship - or maybe I just got lucky. I'm 68 years old, a light sleeper, and I get very cranky if I can't sleep. Two nights out of three without sleep and I'm just ready for my quiet bed at home. I'm hoping my daughter and her family don't have too many issues with noise and movement - I will give them advice on noise canceling machines , ear plugs, and motion sickness pills/patches. They are both teachers, and their son is 11 years old, so this is a real treat for them - just to get away on a DISNEY cruise. Also hoping they aren't too disappointed, as the last two cruises I took them on were on the Dream...a much better ship. Again, THANK YOU ALL!

  4. PopFl, that would have driven me crazy! I'm retired and used to quiet during the day AND at night! I've never had that kind of creaking and groaning on an RCI ship - and they are a lot cheaper to sail on. I enjoyed the three nighter we just took on the Wonder, but putting down another $1640+ for a verandah cabin again next month, even though I'd be with my daughter and her family, seems a bit much.

  5. The last night on the Wonder (this past Saturday) there were a few bigger waves that I noticed when I went out on the verandah. They must have continued all night, as the ship swayed back and forth - which I don't mind AT ALL - I loved being rocked when I'm in my bed on a ship; however, the NOISE kept me up all night long. The whole room was creaking and cracking - like an old wooden house in a strong wind. The sliding door to the closet also banged off and on...I'd expect that. But the creaking was all around me - and it was LOUD. I didn't sleep more than an hour or two the whole night (I'm a light sleeper as it it). I was considering going back on the Wonder next month with my daughter and her family (in my OWN verandah cabin), but now I think I'll reconsider. I was totally exhausted when I got home. I've cruised over 30 times, mostly RCI, but at least six Disney cruises (the one before this one on the newer Dream) and I've never heard such noise! Anyone else have this happen? (other caveats to doing this cruise: we paid for my daughter's cruise (over $2,000) and this past weekend spent $1600+ on our three day, and another cruise in March would be $1700. We aren't rich, so if there may be more sleepless nights, this much more money spent since Jan. 1 is probably too much :(

  6. We were on the Wonder last weekend, and the last night the winds must have been a bit stronger. I heard creaking and cracking sounds all around me all night long. I have been on about 30 cruises (about seven of them Disney) and never had this happen before. The closet door was also sliding and banging off and on. I figured the creaking sounds (which sounded much like an old house when a strong wind comes up) were because the ship is so old. I was considering going on another cruise next month with my daughter, her husband, and their son, but having my own room. Hearing that others have lost sleep due to the noise makes me rethink that $1640 I'd have to spend. It was awful, not getting any sleep at all!

  7. I was just on the Disney Wonder and our day on Castaway Cay was amazing! I'm considering joining my daughter and her family in mid-late March and am wondering if anyone here has advice on weather during March in the Caribbean. I hate to spend another $1500 if it gets a lot hotter there in March, or if the weather is often bad and the ship can't get to the private island. Anyone have experience in March to share?

  8. I just blew through two $39.95 packages this past weekend on our three day cruise! I had no idea that just refreshing the front page of the New York Times would take up one whole package. Highway robbery!!

  9. Wow. That's a LOT of noise! We just returned from a three-night cruise on the Wonder (room 5130--verandah) and the last night was horrible. There were waves, which I LOVED on RCI cruises), but on the Wonder, the whole cabin CREAKED. I mean, like an old house in a strong wind. I didn't sleep at all. It wasn't just the closet doors banging open and shut, it was the whole cabin squeaking and creaking. Though refurbished, is this ship maybe too old?

  10. Hoping to try RCI for the first time, but a friend of mine told me that the mattresses are very hard, and I am elderly and cannot sleep on a hard mattress. I read somewhere on-line that they put new temperpedic (sp?) toppers on them. Anyone know if they are better than a year ago? Thanks for your input!
