  1. My XH thoroughly enjoyed all our trips but absolutely wanted NO PART of the planning. He didnt want to know or hear about ANY of the things we were going to do. He just wanted to show up and be surprised.@@

[emoji23][emoji23] That is hilarious!! It's the story of my life!! [emoji23][emoji23] Glad I'm not the only one dealing with this. I swore this type of thing only happened in my house!!! Lol [emoji38][emoji38]

  2. WoW! That cruise looks amazing.....i was wondering how I missed it in my planning as I would have *definitely* selected that one....... but then I saw that it is too late in August for us. But man.....14 countries in 15 days?!??! I love that. We're doing I think 7 countries in 14 days.

  3. Lol, every day I'm like "375 more days!!" And they're like "yeah, yeah, whatever"

I KNOW! It's just so annoying that they aren't more excited isn't it?! What's crazy is my husband gets so surprised and excited when we get there and speaks about the trips so animatedly when we return! I just can't understand why he's so apathetic during the planning process. Ugh. Oh well!! At least we all have each other to brainstorm and be excited with!!! [emoji2][emoji2]

  4. We are thinking of excursions in St. Petersburg and Helsinki and DIYing for the other ports but I have some time to think about it. We are not planning to go to Berlin on the Warnemunde day but rather go after the cruise so we can spend more time there. By this time next year we will have it all figured out!

Ofallongirl, I think we are on the same sailing. I'm quite on the fence about Berlin. I'm aware that it's 3 hours Away from port but hear it's a pretty, scenic ride. Decisions decisions. Guess I've got time to decide, huh? [emoji38][emoji23]

  5. I know it's a bit early for roll call threads for next summer to get going. I figure those won't really start being active 'til probably this summer. But I am anxious to chat with others who are planning the same/similar trip! My kids are already sick of hearing me talk about it, and I have over a year to go. ;p:eek:

This will be our first trip to Europe and our first NON-Disney cruise. I had originally booked a 9 night on the NCL Getaway, but then this 14 night on RCI popped up which includes 2 days in Norway, and we were *really* dying to get to Norway. It will be myself and my almost-16 year old son and almost-12 year old daughter (at the time of sailing). We will be on the Explorer of the Seas on 7/7/19. I am super anxious to start planning all our excursions, BUT, I don't want to go too crazy and leave myself with nothing to do for the entire 12 months before the cruise. So I'm trying to hold off until this summer to start planning in earnest.

So, anyone have any Baltic cruise plans they want to chat about?

OMG! I have no idea how I missed this thread! We are the same person! My family is sooo sick of listening to me and our Baltic cruise isn't until end of summer 2019! So long to go. We are sailing with Celebrity and i am also eager to plan excursions. I called the cruise line to inquire about the popular excursions and must see sites. I'm super excited too!!! I'll read the rest of the thread and tell you more asap.

  6. Coincidentally, I recently started a thread on the Azamara board inquiring if we'd miss our usually suite category on the main stream lines if we booked a veranda on Azamara. I was convinced by the responses and other research that the 'average' amenities on the smaller luxury ships were somewhat comparable with the suite perks on other lines. We ended up booking a Cuba cruise on Azamara.

But that said, I will miss the larger stateroom, balcony and bathroom. Specifically, the separate shower and bathtub room in Princess suites is one of my favorite perks! Since the ship is so much smaller, we were told that the lack of priority boarding and dedicated breakfast venue should not be an issue.

As far as price, we booked an Azamara Veranda under a pretty good promotion (double category upgrade), but it was still more per night than what we usually pay for a full suite.

Should also mention that the itinerary for this cruise blows away anything we could have done with our traditional lines and that was a huge factor in our decision.

What's your itinerary? How many days and which ports?

  7. Oh me! Me! I don't really have too many reasons to select Disney for our next cruise besides saying that we've sailed on them.

As mentioned before, we don't care much about Disney, even with small children. But I do care about sailing on as many different cruise lines as possible. For the last few years, I've made it a point not to repeat two cruise lines in a row.

Logically, I knew that I wanted to do Disney at some point in time even though I don't really care for all the Disney pixie dust. Might as well do it now when the kids are at that age. We'll see what they say about it.

I'm in a similar boat with you. I've been interested in sailing with all of the different cruise lines out there in an attempt to find my favorite and experience all of the different nuances of the different cruise lines. I was recently asked which cruise line was my favorite and I simply stated that since I hadn't cruised them all I had no idea. The primary things I look for when I book are itinerary, cost of getting to the port, cost of cruise and length of trip (shorter sailings are better for our family). However, if there are 2-3 that qualify I typically choose the line I haven't yet sailed.

Our first DCL is booked for early next year. My kids are young enough to still be interested and I figured I needed to do it now before they're teens who can't bear to part with their devices and wifi. Lol. Currently my kids LOVE Carnival but I'm hoping something else piques their fancy. I may have run my course with Carnival for awhile. Out of three cruises on CCL, our last one was not at all anything I was ready to repeat. It wasn't horrible, as it was great family time and any vacation is better than any day at work. BUT, after cruising other lines between CCL, I'd just rather find a new cruise line to fall in love with. DCL is quite pricey though so hopefully we won't fall too in love with them. [emoji6] Happy sailing!

  8. Another reason is simple supply and demand. Carnival has 25 ships and Disney has 4. I have never been on a Disney cruise. Priced them several times and even had one booked once but cancelled it. I am a huge Disney freak, DVC member and go to Disney once a year. I really want to try DCL but when it comes down to it I always book carnival. I have been on 10 cruises with CCL and have 11 and 12 booked. We have fun on carnival and we really like the casino. But I do plan to sail on Disney one of these days. It may have to be the 3 day one in the off season to be able to afford it.

I'm with you! We've sailed with other cruise lines and booked our first DCL in off season as a repositioning cruise to get a better rate. It was still pretty pricey compared to other cruises we've taken but I booked it on a whim because of a glowing review I read on CC. Looking forward to trying them and I'm sure we will LOVE them. However, I am hoping we don't fall too in love with them since the price would allow me to cruise a couple of different times on another cruise line. [emoji23]

  9. My DW takes her iPad, and it contains at least 150 books! She is downloading more all the time! She reads romance novels, some of which are a series with new books coming out anywhere from monthly to annually. When she doesn't have a new book, she will reread some of her old favorites.

Me - no book, no paper, nothing! Cruise to get away, completely. It takes effort to read the daily cruise bulletin:)

Wow! DW sounds like me! Who are some of her favorite romance authors and which series books has she found that she's enjoyed? I'm always on the hunt for new romance novels.

  10. A big Thank You! in response to my previous post of doubt and questioning! So very true; I have read reviews of ships we have been on and wonder if we were really on the same ship! Have loved our Celebrity and Princess ships (not so much the HAL, but still had a great time).

BTW- the Celebrity ship we were on was the Galaxy- no longer with the fleet.

    THX!

Hi Nini, we have cruises booked on Princess (spring 2018) and Celebrity (spring and summer 2019) but haven't sailed either of them yet. We've sailed Carnival (3x's), Royal Caribbean (twice), Peter Deilman (obsolete river cruise line) and HAL (1x). As a previous poster said "my worst day on vacation is better than any day at work". I agree 100%. Lol. I understood your initial feelings of concern after booking while reading all the posts. I felt the same way and was relieved to read the positive feedback following your post.

My question for you is what did you dislike about HAL? We had a phenomenal itinerary when we sailed with them and a great time overall. However there were a few minor things that were kind of annoying. Those annoyances were more with fellow passengers than with the cruise line itself though. Additionally, what did you love about Princess and Celebrity? I enjoyed that one poster mentioned you'd say "Wow!" when you boarded the ship and that you'd wonder what took you so long to get there. That post was excitingly reassuring.

Thanks in advance. Just curious [emoji4]

  11. I checked old emails and the 3 for free started last year on September 6.

What is the 3 for free? Is it literally, pay for one and three are free? That sounds way too good to be true! Fingers crossed that it'll come back.

We aren't drinkers so sip and sail doesn't help. BTW, love your screen name. I'm definitely a coffee lover as well!

  12. We've been there several times since 2012 and that was never our experience while shopping.

It is one of my favorite ports, so much so that I booked 2 cruises for 2018 that stop there. We have done Yaya, Alma Plena Eco resort, the ruins and just walked Majahuel until we found a place that looked interesting. The best beach by far was at Alma Plena. We plan on going there again on one of the cruises and to Maya Chan on the other cruise.

You mentioned your enjoyment of Alma Plena and Maya Chan. Can you tell me about Yaya and your experience there? We are heading to Costa Maya in November. My husband voted Maya Chan but I was more interested in Yaya. The fact that you mentioned the other two and not that one may be the answer to my question [emoji6] but can you give me any feedback about Yaya and what you liked and disliked. Can you compare and contrast Yaya with Maya Chan? Sorry for all the questions.... thank you!! [emoji4]

  13. For us, it was everything about it. We're just used to larger ships out of Florida. I'm not sure how the Pearl would compare to the Dawn. Looks to be about the same size. If you're used to smaller ships, this maybe fine. Since I haven't cruised the Pearl, I can't comment. Not sure how old your kids are either. If my kids were younger, this wouldn't be the ship I'd take them on. This is just ME though. Don't want to get flamed for the remark! : ) We've taken them on Disney, Carnival and Royal.

I wouldn't ever flame for an opinion but I know what you mean. [emoji51] Thank you for the feedback. My kids are 7 and 10. We've only cruised smaller ships with the kids though I'd love to cruise Oasis OTS. Thanks again. ☺

  14. We found most people were from Boston. Much different feel than our normal cruises.

You may cover this later in the thread but I'm just now reading it so I apologize in advance if this question is a repeat..... can you explain how it had a different feel than the norm. Was it because of ship size (Oasis class RCL vs smaller NCL), onboard activities, ports, etc. Since you mentioned most people were from Boston did you sail from the Northeast and that was the difference?

I ask mainly because we've sailed Royal and liked them but my kids prefer Carnival to Royal due to the kids room and activities. We take our first NCL (NCL Pearl) later this year so just interested in differences. We've never sailed Oasis class ships on royal so won't have the big ships as a comparison. Just curious. Thanks in advance.

  15. I guess I feel like leaving from Texas I get more ports to visit. I want to see more of Mexico side. Having never been to either, it seems like there would be more to see going to Cozumel twice over labadee twice.

And if I'm comparing with the more ports on the 7 day princess..... the liberty is bigger than the regal too

I'm looking at November 17 to February 18

Ok. That makes sense. I've been to the Mexico side a lot and am more excited about seeing more of the eastern and southern Caribbean. I should've asked specifics but that makes sense.

The good news is cruising in early November and December (or anytime kids are in school) will give you the opportunity for some GREAT deals on cruises!! I ALWAYS see really great fares and itineraries during those times you're looking to travel.

I've cruised out of Texas twice and have a couple more cruises booked to leave from Texas since it's driving distance. I definitely think it's a great port. I just wish more cruise lines went out of Galveston and there were more itinerary options. However I understand you've got to sail farther so it's a longer cruise and I can't take that much time off work. Keep us posted on what you decide. That's a fun dilemma to solve. Regardless of what you choose it'll be fabulous because after all, what vacation isn't? [emoji6]

  16. Hi. I want to do western Caribbean. Thinking of back to back adventure of the seas from Galveston (as 7 days is not enough!) or back to back with southern itinerary in navigator from Miami. Or 7 day western on regal princess (as princess have an extra port in 7 days over RC) from ft Lauderdale.

    Anyone have recommendations?

Couple (leaving kids behind) looking for tropical beach adventure and relaxation.

We live in Texas and could drive to the port in Galveston so naturally I search Texas departures first to save on airfare. However, there are WAY more options when leaving from Florida. Almost all the major cruise lines and all the big nice fancy ships sail from Florida. I'm told the port is bigger so bigger ships can get in and out versus Galveston's port. Additionally the itineraries from Florida just overall appear to have more options (Western, Eastern, Southern). If I were you and you're weighing both ports as an equal option, I'd choose a Florida departure. Have fun! Two week b2b sounds amazing. Maybe even look into a departure out of Florida and see if your second leg can pick up in San Juan. Royal has a beautiful Eastern itinerary on Oasis and a really nice southern itinerary out of San Juan on Liberty I believe??? Happy planning and happy sailing!!

  17. Oh my goodness!! Such TERRIFIC information!! I can't thank you enough for this! So far, I have looked into Special Needs at Sea and Scootaround.com. I have another cruise booked for Decemeber and was planning to rent the scooter for that one. This cruise came up rather suddenly and I am at the point where I am using a scooter for grocery shopping and trips to the mall, etc. For short distances I use my walker with a seat but I am really having a difficult time with longer distances now. (Without going into too much detail, my biggest issue is that I can not stand for more than a few minutes at a time. Walking any distance is out of the question.) Every day I find something that helps make life a little easier and I take advantage of it because the alternative is sitting home and doing nothing. NOT READY TO GIVE UP YET! :p On my last cruise I did OK with just the walker (had wheelchair assist getting on the ship) but when I tried to get off in any of the ports I had to go back to the ship because I just didn't have the strength. I basically missed Aruba and it was on my bucket list! :(. So, if I can rent a scooter to get off the ship and I can get a shower chair I will be OK and I know I will enjoy this cruise! I

I will definitely be looking into the places you suggested and am very grateful that you took the time to respond. THANK YOU!

You are awesome!!! So excited for you and your great attitude! So many people would give up and you are not going to let this beautiful world go unexplored!! Happy cruising to you and your daughter! You are an inspiration! I can't wait to share your post with my parents. I tell them all of the time to get out and explore, travel and live!! They are 67 and 68, able bodied (though with some minor to moderate aches and pains) and in generally good health. BUT it's like pulling teeth to get them to go anywhere with me and my family (DH, DD7, DS10). They often say "traveling is for young people" and I sputter in indignation every time they say it! DH and I have traveled extensively and met so many wonderful people who are typically much more mature than us. They are often retired with adult children and they have WAY more fun than we do!! They don't have to go back to work at the end of their trips! Lol. Enjoy your travels! [emoji2]

  18. Hello, everyone.........this will be my first time cruising on Celebrity. .....(Equinox, August in a 2B veranda balcony, unlimited drink package.) I have been on about 10 Carnival cruises and 2 Royal Caribbean but Celebrity seems very different from what I am used to!

I am not having much luck navigating the Celebrity website to find my answers. People here are ALWAYS so helpful and so I think I might have better luck here.

First...even though we have the drink package, I am not much of a drinker at all and am most interested in finding bottled water. On Carnival, I call ahead of time and have a case (or two) waiting for me in my cabin. I am not finding anywhere that I can do that. Can you do that on Celebrity and can someone tell me where to find it?

Is it possible to get a table for two in the main dining room? We were assigned early dining....I will try to change it to anytime (or select?), but if I can't I am just wondering if there are two-tops available? I LOVE meeting new people on a cruise; I just prefer to eat in the dining room with my family. (Also, if you ever had a 'bad' table mate you will understand. ;)

I am curious as to how much room you have in a veranda balcony cabin? I use a rollator/walker and sometimes need a wheelchair. I wanted to rent a scooter for getting off the ship only but from some pictures I have seen, it doesn't really look like I could even bring one into the room. (I don't want to rent it and THEN find out it won't fit! LOL)

Also, it looks like some dining venues will be off limits to us......I am NOT worried about finding enough to eat, LOL, I just really like to know a lot about the ship BEFORE I go....don't like surprises!

It looks like Celebrity will be a new adventure for me.....I am not afraid of change, but it seems this ship will be different than my most recent sailings. Not better or worse; just different. :)

Finally, my daughter and I will be flying into Ft Lauderdale the day before our cruise and we are looking for a nice CLEAN hotel in Miami. We don't need a lot of bells and whistles but a water view near somewhere to get dinner would be great. Any suggestions?

Thank you all for taking the time to read this and maybe offer some answers or suggestions. I have always been able to get great information from the people here and have even been able to help out a few people when I knew the answer.

    Good morning SusieCruises!

I am booked on some X sailings but have not sailed with them quite yet. HOWEVER, I do have a hotel suggestion in Miami. We stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites Miami-Brickell Downtown on SW 12th St. We really enjoyed it! It wasn't ridiculous in price, relatively speaking, and we were told there were many places to eat, shop and explore nearby. We arrived late the night before we sailed and boarded early the next morning so we didn't experience as much but it was lovely and the staff was great!

Sorry I can't add more but I'm learning along with you as I read through the posts here. Enjoy your trip! ☺

  19. I know it's not "cost effective" but on the 14 group DW and I booked an OS. It was great! We hosted a sail away cocktail party with a bar and heavy appetizers in our cabin. There was plenty of room and everybody still comments on that was the best way to start off vacation. Actually when I say not cost effective the OS is expensive, but the bar and buffet was surprisingly reasonable.

That sounds FABULOUS!! I will definitely use this idea in the future! At this juncture DH & I typically either cruise alone or with our young kids. However, we are hoping to add grandparents to the mix within the next year or so. This would be a lovely, less hectic way to enjoy a sail away! Great idea! Thank you!

  20. We do not care what other do, my dh will take his tux and dinner jackets for sure... and I dress up too... makes our ev ening special... after 30 years of crusing would not do any other way.

That's awesome! Good for both of you! I loved wearing beaded gowns for formal nights on our first few cruises as well! The more relaxed dress we've noticed as of late has made me less inclined to pack my best gowns but we always wear nicer attire on formal night. Your post makes me excited about pulling out some of those older overlooked gowns in my closet for our upcoming sailings! Happy cruising! ☺
