I've been looking for information and pictures and have found very little.

A major concern ... Is the balcony covered? Sensitive to sun. Spending too much time with the dermatologist.

    Pictures would be great.

    All help would be appreciated.

On Ruby now. Very little covered balconey. We might get some shade.  We brought safari style hats and umbellas to block out sun.  The corner of the balcony is curved slightly so it's not as big as nextdoors.  We are in R751.

Very private. When we are sitting in the 2 chairs no one can see you. If we go to the rail and stretch you can see the terrace pool rails above you but it's not a problem .

R749 does have rails above it and people standing there could look down.

R751 is at the end of  14th floor, and down to the left. Quite as it deadends there.

A liitle engine noise but it was like white noise to me.no food smells as others reported on lower deck.

The only option provided to us at the time by both Viking and TripMate, was to rebook the cruise since we qualified for a full refund according to the terms of the TripMate travel insurance.

A Viking representative did contact TripMate on our behalf, with a response that our appeal had been 'overlooked' and they would prioritize it now! kl

This is good to know.  I hope I don't have to use it but it's important info.   Thanks

The $150 is actually two fees. The first is called the Air Plus fee and that is the fee charged to anyone who wants to have a say in their flights. That fee is usually $50pp but there are some itineraries where the fee can be more. The other fee is called a Deviation fee and is charged any time a passenger wants to arrive before Day 1 of the itinerary and/or depart other than the last day of the itinerary; it is usually $100pp. Also, if you deviate from the arrival and departure days without using a Viking extension, you lose the airport transfers on the deviated days.

I do agree with Squawkman. This is one of the times when doing the Viking extension will probably cost you less than doing it on your own.

I thought I had read on the boards here that in order to do a pre-cruise excursion on your own (we want to come into Budapest 2 days early), that Viking would charge $50-100pp to customize the flights.  I called them today and they want $150pp to make the change.  I haven't read about anyone getting charged the full $150pp to change the date/flight.  Has anyone else paid this much?

Now I'm wondering if it's just better to book their pre-cruise 2 day Budapest excursion for $399pp?

    Thanks!

    debbie

I think that all depends on how much research you are willing to do.

$150 X 2 pp =$300       $399 X 2 for extension is $798       That leaves you almost $500 to use for cabs, more days if you want them, catch up with jet lag, etc...  It's all in what is best for your situation  and how comfortable you are on traveling  on your own.  We have many friends who do the extensions because they don't want to mess with cabs or figuring out where to go. And we have friends who are more adventurous  and go on their own.   I also liked having a say in our flights  as we live 3 hours from an airport.      Which ever you choose   have a great trip!

Wonderful  - both are amazing cities!

I would recommend booking Parliament in Budapest:

Also, AFH, Rijksmuseum & Van Gogh in Amsterdam:

Thank you  for the links. I bought my Parliament tickets this morning. Now I can look into the others.

  6. I was far behind in reading this blog this year and was working to catch up. Now I’m surprised and worried that there have been no entries from Pete for the past month. I’ve seen entries up to date from other world cruisers as recently as yesterday. Thinking of you, Pete, and Judy, and hoping you are ok.

Refresh your computer screen. They have a post on this page 19. look for The-Inside-Cabin

  7. By any chance is this a Collectors' cruise? I have often found that fixed dining is not available on ours, we are waitlisted and then accommodated so still do fixed. Not sure why HAL offers all options to the segments and not to the collectors' but that is what has happened to us on our last few.

You can also check once on board to see if there is availability.

You can get the same table on open dining and reserve up to 3 nights I believe as long as it is not peak times. (Usually around 6:30 - 7:30 approximately are not reservable - varies by ship and sailing).

On HAL we have had no wait on open seating. You can also make reservations. (Hi Kazu!)

  8. I just flip the tie over my shoulder. :p

This is THE BEST ANSWER on this whole thread! Made me laugh.

We don't do Gala nights as we choose not to get dressed up. But some of the people on this thread need to be a little more accepting of others. If you don't like what they are wearing try looking away.

  9. You might want to join the roll call for the 8/21/16 sailing. It's not a very active thread but it might give you an idea what others on this trip are doing in Greenland as well as the other ports.

There are also 8/11 and 8/23 roll calls for the Zuiderdam for this trip. There are some of us on the 8/11 continuing onto the 8/23.

  10. Just a vent....the HAL website is so frustrating and hard to use. Half the time I can't access what I need, and end up having to go to the library to use their computers, and sometimes that doesn't work. When I just tried to do a search, I tried 2 different ways - Plan and Destinations - and both times I got the spinning "wheel of death". :(

    Roz

I use Chrome. For me, it works great on HAL website.

If I get the "Wheel of Death" on other sites, I switch to Mozilla Firefox and problem is solved

  11. We had some credits. One was a Pinnacle Grill dinner that our travel agent bought us. HAL never told us we had it. So on the last day we had the credit applied to our bill. I emailed HAL and they got back to me on the reason.

I know, now, to ask on the 3rd day of a cruise if anyone has purchased a gift for us. It's embarrassing not to thank someone for a gift you never knew you had!!

  12. We have $400 OBC for an upcoming cruise. Plus we have free gratuities. We try to do CC shore excursions and are not big drinkers so we don't spend much on HAL.

Does Hal give you a refund if you don't use it all? If not, can you forward it to a future cruise? For all I know we may just spend it all anyway.

    Thanks!

  13. We'll be on the Zuiderdam's Viking Passage next year, which is essentially a westbound TA that starts in Copenhagen and winds up in NY via Norway, Iceland, Greenland, and Canada. So, part Europe, part not.

Any idea how laundry prices are treated on such a sailing?

    Thanks!

I think we are on the same cruise. I emailed HAL and was told $7/day for the 30 day cruise for unlimited. I saved the email & am taking it with me.

(I heard prepaid: $7/day Europe $9/if the cruise is only States/Canada)
