  1. The motor in the picture is AC. If it were DC there would be an armature and brushes. The motor shown has a rotor and stator which are components of an AC motor. If it is a synchronous motor it will have a separate DC winding that locks the rotor to one speed. These motors use very large AC drives that chop DC to variable frequency AC to control the rpms depending on the desired speed.

I plan on a small roller cooler (cloth, not heavy) to check with baggage with porters with 12 bottles of water for us and 12 plastic bottles of diet coke (not 2 liter!)  the 12oz size ones.  This should be fine for us and hubby can buy 3-6 beers a day and I think will be cheaper than the beverage pkg. since he really doesn't drink cocktails and only has 3-4 beers a day.  If I need a soda on the private island I'll just purchase.  I usually drink Iced tea with dinner, so I don't think the soda pkg will even be a good deal for me.  2 days we're off at ports  most of the day anyway.   Staying on ship in Falmouth Jamaica .    Thanks for the advice.

Be careful with the size of the cooler. The following is from the list of forbidden items:

    • Coolers - only coolers approximately 12 x 12 x 12 in size (holds 6-12 cans of non-alcoholic beverages) are allowed. Guests carrying larger sizes will be directed to return them to their vehicle. If the guest is without a vehicle, the cooler will be destroyed in the same manner as other prohibited items. Exception: if the cooler is larger and contains baby food/formula, kosher food/special diet food or medication - these must be hand-carried. Coolers cannot be accepted as checked baggage.
  3. My wife of 30 years has been completely blind for the past 47 years (since she was 10). We cruise on Princess and she enjoys it very much. I have never let them know that she is blind as there is nothing special that she needs. I am always with her, so although she reads braille, the signage on the doors and elevators is moot. They do not provide menus in braille, so you will need to read it to your son even when he learns. She can do everything except drive (at least my car), so I book whichever excursions we want to do. My wife enjoys the "sights" as I have become quite good at describing the colors, actions, vistas or whatever is around us. We do quite a bit of hiking, so she will switch from her roller ball cane to an off road cane. She has not had a guide dog for several years but when she did have one we would leave him home when we cruised as he would limit the excursions we would be able to do.

Sorry about your son losing his vision, but he should have a wonderful time on a cruise with you.

  4. We had our Princess excursion to Volcano National Park and Tastes of Hawaii changed to Waterfalls and tastes of Hawaii. The cruise isn't until April 2019, but I had this excursion paid for. There was no notification from Princess when they made the change, I happened to see it in my account. I can fully understand them not going to the national park but they should at least let you know when they completely change the destination of an excursion that has been paid for.

  5. Our next cruise is a 15 day to Hawaii. We'll be celebrating many events so this is a special trip for us. I bought a beautiful floor length gown for formal night(will only wear it one night, other formal nights I'll bring a nice cocktail length). My husband doesn't own a tux, but we saw he can rent one and have it delivered to our cabin. Has anyone else done this and if so, how was the experience?

It was in the closet when we arrived and disappeared after the last formal night. Could not have been easier.

  6. D736 (and D737) are great suites. The balcony is very large with 2 lounges and a full size table with 4 chairs. It is covered and very private. Both of these rooms have only one room next to them (to the inboard side). To the outboard side (the white space on the deck plan) is a stairway used to get to muster and not used regularly so no noise. Being on the stern does make the rooms a little bit of a walk but no big deal. The end of the hallway is very quiet as no one is ever walking past the room. The room is large and comfortable and the beam, on the balcony that gets so much attention, is a non-issue. You will not be sorry if you book either of these rooms.

  7. If you book a suite on the Grand enjoy the breakfasts in Sabatinis- hopefully Franco will be on the ship and he is an amazing host!

Have they changed the location? It was served in the CG last year.

  8. Hopefully those people who actually paid for their coffee cards have another cruise booked through the end of August next year to use up their punches.

Otherwise, full suites and elites abused the unlimited internet perk and now you only get a fixed set of minutes that vary in three increments by the length of the cruise. Although with ***** you will pay by the day or get a certain level of use as a perk.

In the same way full suites and elites abused the coffee card exchange by selling them on eBay and now you only get a coffee card package that expires at the end of the cruise with the advertised potential of packages that vary by cruise length.

I’m sure the Princess “fine print” has them covered.

I don't remember any internet perk being included with a suite.
