I can't imagine why on earth they would put those poor passengers on a bus together untested for over 8+ hours drive all the way to San Diego??? Out of state passengers were supposed to be flown to their home states. What a mess for these poor people.

I seriously doubt that passengers are going to San Diego by bus. Leah from the Hot Chicken ladies said that they are being taken by bus to the airport. Also, I've been keeping up with the roll call for that cruise, and at least one other passenger said that they were flown to San Diego.

  2. Update on the Hot Chicken ladies from the Grand. One of the sisters just posted a short You Tube video.  In the video, one of the sisters (Leah) said that they are currently on a bus to the airport, and will be flown to Miramar in San Diego, apparently to be tested before they go home to Nevada. There is a lot of confusion since they had been led to believe they were going straight home. Nevada state officials did not know what was going on.

Leah's husband had an unspecified medial incident this morning, and was taken to an Oakland hospital. They have no word on what will happen when he is discharged from the hospital.

Note: As I mentioned above, Leah said that they are on a bus to the airport and will fly to San Diego.

And then the question is, if this is true, are they the only ones in their households back in Nevada?  If there are others, shouldn't they also quarantine in the home if they go back to NV?

As far as I can tell from their videos, one sister lives by herself, although her home is attached to her daughter's home by a door. The other sister apparently lives with her husband and son, both of whom shared a stateroom with the two sisters on the Grand.

And I have seen nothing that says they will not be in quarantine at two bases in California or in bases in Texas and Georgia.

The other posts about at-home quarantining have to do with local cases, not the the passengers from the Grand.

The Hot Chicken ladies on the Grand posted yesterday in a video on You Tube that they will be quarantined in their homes in Nevada. Other articles I've read in this thread said that all 49 passengers from Nevada will be quarantined in their homes.

I haven't read about any other states using in-home quarantine for their residents from the Grand, but that doesn't necessarily mean that no other states are doing this.

You are seeing equipment, such as crabpots or longlines.   (AIS transponders are cheap now and it is a good way not to lose gear.)  I have never heard of anybody being told to wait, but I am in Puget Sound not San Francisco.   I suspect they were instructed to turn off AIS for some reason, but that brings up some liability issues.

Interesting. Could it be that to escape the media, the ship has been asked to turn off AIS, so it's not public where they are docked? The ship is so big, I can't imagine anywhere in the Bay Area where they wouldn't be seen once they are docked.

Wouldn't it have made sense to keep them on the royal....now they are all traveling home to infect more...?

Apparently yesterday, the CDC gave the ship clearance, but wouldn't give it later today.

Grand Princess is stopped.    That is very different from not making way (zero knots) it is a status that is put into the AIS by the officer in charge.    They appear to be stopped just outside the traffic separation zone in about 200-300 feet of water.   This is extremely strange nautical behavior.   (Perhaps they have turned of the AIS?)   What the heck?

A boat with supplies came by earlier. Is it possible they are still loading?

Answered my own question. Nope. The boat has left.

  8. I've been monitoring marinetraffic.com all day, and it now appears that the Grand Princess has broken away from cruising in circles, and could be headed directly toward the entrance to San Francisco Bay. I'm hesitant to draw the conclusion that the ship is definitely headed to the SF Bay Area, because I was wrong yesterday. However, the ship is now past the spot where it met the Coast Guard cutter this morning..

The next several hours will be interesting to watch.

the way I am reading above it is saying the person has symptoms but they can't test per cdc.  Is there not a medical dr. on board that can request the test...this is no time to guess on this stuff. Agree no time to be cruising. One after another.

There was an announcement made on board that the ship will not debark until this passenger is tested and the results of the test come back. So, it appears this passenger is getting tested, despite not meeting the CDC "at risk" guidelines.

Thanks Colo Cruiser. As I said earlier, the information on cruisetraffic.com shows that the ship has not changed its information on its final destination,  so it makes sense that the final destination would be listed as San Francisco. It could still be San Francisco. But, based on earlier information that the ship was headed for a non-commercial port, it also seems to make sense that the final port may not be San Francisco itself. In any case, from trackers we should find out tonight based on where the ship finally docks.

Looks like she's heading into the SF harbor

I'm using a different tracker, marinetraffic.com. It's now much clearer that the ship is headed to the entrance to the SF Bay. But, I'm not sure it's clear yet that it will dock in San Francisco itself. As of the time of posting this, the ship has not updated its information on its intended destination since 3/5. So It could be San Francisco, but it also could be elsewhere in the SF Bay Area. We should know for sure overnight when the ship finally docks.

Later note: Just in the past few minutes, the ship has increased its speed to 16.8 kn. Not sure what this means, except that we may get our answer on the ship's final docking destination sooner.

There is an air station at Point Mugu  but it is not a deepwater port where you could dock a cruise ship of that draft.    I think the media must mean Port Hueneme which is (according to Wikipedia) the only deepwater port between San Francisco and San Diego.    I think Bremerton would be better, a 3000+ person cruise ship would just be another aircraft carrier to them.

I have been tracking marinetraffic.com, and based on their current information, the ship appears to have left its previous roughly circular course, and seems to be heading directly toward the entrance to the San Francisco Bay. This would suggest a docking somewhere in the SF Bay Area.

Click on "past track" to see their prior course, and their current course.

  13. You mean like this?[emoji23] Fortunately for me my sister used the dryer right after me!

Sorry for LOL at this, but in certain situations (such as college dorms) a sock on the door handle has a totally different meaning, and it wouldn't be put there by your sister.

  14. I was on the April 6 TA cruise on the Caribbean Princess in a midship balcony cabin and my stateroom had the new mattress and bedding. It is definitely not the "rock hard" bedding of Princess past. I found it excellent. Perfect? No. I have my bed at home adjusted just the way I like it. But, comparable to a bed at a fine hotel. On top of the mattress is a foam topper that (at least for me) eliminated the split between the two bottom mattresses. No egg crate needed. I'm fussy about mattresses and I would not be hesitant to sail on the Caribbean Princess because of the mattress.

Also, my midship balcony cabin had been refurbished with new carpet and upholstery. Everything looked like new. I hope your cabin is the same.

However, I'm going to avoid the Caribbean Princess for awhile because of the downgrading of the buffet (I like eating in the buffet so this is important to me), as well as the propulsion issues. I have a fall cruise scheduled on the Royal Princess, and I'm very much looking forward to it.

  15. Here are some links to illustrate what I am talking about.

Here is an "old" deck plan for the Caribbean Princess from Cruise Critic. I have used Deck 11 (Baja Deck) as an illustration. It shows a very large self-service laundromat accessible from both the port and starboard sides. The laundromat is roughly the size of two inside staterooms.

    http://www.cruisecritic.com/caribbean-princess-deck-plans/dp/?shipID=303&deck=11

Here is the new deck plan of the Caribbean Princess taken from the Princess Web site. Notice that the self-service laundromat on Deck 11 is half the size of the one on the old deck plan. Deck 11 is not special. The self-service laundromats are also smaller on other decks. Note: With this link, you may have to choose the deck you wish to view.

    http://www.princess.com/deckPlans.do?shipCode=CB

I understand that some self-service laundromats on some Princess ships or on certain decks of some ships were already of a size that they could not be "cut in half." However, many of the laundromats, at least on the Caribbean Princess were larger and now have been cut in half. I know the other half was made into a stateroom. (I was told it was for a contractor by a stateroom attendant.) What I saw with my own eyes was that it was a stateroom for SOMEBODY.

Note: I am not basing my conclusion on reading two deck plans. My proof is seeing the new laundromats on at least three decks of the Caribbean Princess, and I've included the links to help illustrate what the laundry rooms looked like "before" and "after."
