I am on the 2/5 Sailing so I called Holland America and the rep said nothing has changed. I also called the company we book through and they said nothing has changed.
-
NA heading out. Good luck with the repairs.

Is one week enough time to get the azipod changed out? I'm booked on the 2/8 sailing.

Misty Fjords float plane tour.

We also flew with Mountain Air last July, it was a great experience to say the least. We have a photo of us with the plane that crashed hanging on the wall. Now it will serve as a reminder to pray for the family.

We did a Flight over the Misty Fjords in late July, had a beautiful clear blue sky that day. It was spectacular! We had booked with Michelle with Island wings but when we got to the dock we found out her plane had mechanical problems. I hated to loose the chance to fly on such a perfect day, we had our flight to the fjords canceled in 2017 due to low ceiling. We got on a flight a couple hours later with Mountain Air and it all worked out. I would highly recommend it!

We saw the Orcas in Juneau on 7/23 and they were very active. We actually saw them make a kill on a seal. The naturalist on board was ecstatic over that, never having observed a kill before.

We really enjoyed the orca excursion in Victoria last summer.

One of my favorite appetizers from the Pinnacle is the steak tartare. Then I can get lobster and crab but still get the yummy beef. If I order a steak, the ribeye is my favorite.
Thats my pick at the PG... steak tartare and king crab.

Best salmon viewing might be the hatchery in Juneau. They have a fish ladder. I was there last august 2017 around the 10th and it was loaded with chum salmon. Thousands of them. You can take a tour of the hatchery also. 10 minute drive from the cruise ship docks.

I just checked Hooked on Juneau website before seeing this post, and it says trips are available in July. Do you have any additional information that they might not still be in business by then? And, do you have any other suggestions for an inland fishing tour (that doesn't involve a helicopter.) Thanks so much
All I know is I tried to book with him for last August 2017 and he was not taking any bookings. He directed me to Chum Fun out of Juneau. I went with them and it was a snag fest off the dock by the hatchery. It was loaded with chum salmon at the time but very few were interested in biting.

FYI... most of the salmon caught off that dock are snagged. When the fish have spawning on the brain its hard to get them to bite. The fly fishing can be very good later in the summer but you would probably need an outfitter.

I looked at the same two options for next July. We had our misty flightseeing canceled due to the weather last August so we wanted to try again. I choose flightseeing only (independent booking) over the cruise/fly thinking that if the weather is crummy the cruise only might not be worth taking. Cruise/fly combo means the shore excursion people get some of your money no matter what the weather is like.

We really enjoyed stingray city a few years ago. You will not be without company but there are only so many tour operators and they know what they are doing. There are enough stingrays to please everyone, and you will be giving them a free lunch to boot.

We have done the snorkling in Ketchikan... it was O.K. but you only see a few sea stars and sea cucumbers. Misty fjords was on our list last august but got cancelled because of a low cloud ceiling... we will try again in July 18

A couple of things... Hooked On Juneau is out of business last
I checked. The king salmon fishing would be more than likely ocean fishing in that area. In June your stream fishing would be mainly for small trout or dollies. Juneau has Bear Creek Outfitters that does fly-outs for river fishing. If nothing else its a great outdoor experience.

I will be at HMC on the Eurodam 3/12/18... so I looked up the port schedule for that day and it showed 3 ships due in port, the Eurodam, the Zuiderdam and a Carnival ship. I sure hope I got the wrong info!

We sailed on the Oosterdam to Alaska 8/6/17... Pinnacle Grill was very nice.
Mexican Riviera... We cruised there Nov 2016 on the Westerdam, a sister ship to the Oosterdam. One shore excursion I would highly recommend would be Las Caletas. Its a boat trip to a private beach area with snorkeling, zip line, paddle boarding, food, parrots flying around ect... On the way back the crew on the boat put on a great show! This is in Puerto Vallarta

Beautiful evening for a sail-away.
It was a beautiful evening, I was on the ship. We even saw the full moon rise over the mountains as we sailed out of the channel later on, just as it got dark. The next day at the Hubbard glacier was picture perfect as well. Then it was sunny in Sitka as well. We had a great cruise on the Oosterdam.

I'll be there on 8/10 and will be fly fishing for salmon. I guess the river fishermen have the bears to look out for and now the ocean fishermen have to look out for the orcas!
-
Not to hi-jack the thread but we are looking to share a van tour on Aug 11th in the A.M. Same deal $80.00 per hour, would like to split cost with another couple.

We are booked for fri 8/11/17, only 2 of us so far...

FYI... They offer snorkeling in Ketchikan.
Masking on Alaskan cruises
in Holland America Line

We were on the Eurodam 7/23-7/29 and masks were not required, saw very few people wearing them
