1. The airport is Fiumicino and is well out of Rome itself and even further from Civitavecchia (40-50 minutes). The general price seems to be about €80 for two people, less if you use a shuttle and share. There is a hotel at the airport but also a Best Western a €6 ride from the airport.

Thank You Mike!! appreciate this info. Corkey Carol

  2. Hello Everyone: already picked up a lot of good pointers from this thread - we will be flying to Rome (don't even know the airport but must be a main one for Intern'l) -- for our Med cruise on the Harmony on Oct 16, 2016. We will be flying in 2 days ahead and our cruise will start from Civitavecchia - how far is this city from the airport? thank you -- seems the taxi/shuttle rates are reasonable = there will be two of us - Thank You for any info you can give me - for hotels, I have just been going thru the website for ideas.

Thank You for starting this thread - I love to read and glad for all the recommendations - Corkey Carol

I am going to have to live past 100 to read everything on my kindle and also stop continually adding to my local library hold list (I have to go every week and pick up more holds that have arrived). My reading addiction is so bad of have piles of books I own and still have not read. I naively thought I would I would catch up when I retired but alas that will never happen! LOL :D

You and Me both -- I love the cute stories from Book Bub that are either free or very very cheap, then I buy them all if they come in a series - I read til about 2am at night - paperwhite Kindle so as not to disturb Hubby since he always used to complain about the lamp being on and it was bright - How would He know if he's snoring? ha! ha! that is a mystery itself!!

Linda - let me give you my email since we are almost neighbors -

and just in case we run into each other in our neighboring towns:

Thank You for starting this thread - I love to read and glad for all the recommendations - Corkey Carol

I set up my Kindle with a wide variety of both new reads and the wonderful free reads offered from Amazon.

From the new reads pile a little of everything:

    Leaving Time - Jodi Picoult

Lost Key - Catherine Coulter/J.T. Ellison

Wonder of All Things - Jason Mott

Don't look back - Gregg Hurwitz

    Good old series:

    Alexandra Sokoloff - Huntress/FBI Thriller

    J.A. Konrath - Jack Daniels

I read everything from Biography's to serial killers. I use Amazon and the public library for ebooks. Free reading for your ereader

Hi Linda: We meet again ... I also order from Amazon for my Kindle and have so much in that library that I'll never run of books to enjoy - I order from Book Bub too - I love mysteries where the sleuths are the "young" elderlys... I'll have to get the name and titles of a series I just ordered - the main character is 84 yrs old and right now I am on the first book and he's on a cruise ship trying to solve a murder mystery.

Will come back with the titles and author ...

  7. Beerman: Glad you enjoyed your first RCCL cruise - I know it won't be your last - sorry you missed out on the M&M -

I met FloJo ... she and hubby were seated in front of us during dinner for the 1st wk , we each had tables for 2... THEN during the 2nd wk, we had side by side tables for 2 so we hooked up and had a fantastic time chatting for each time we had meals together - I didn't know she was FloJo and she didn't know I was Corkey Carol til about 3rd day of 2nd cruise - we will surely keep in touch and hope we can meet up with them again on another cruise - Also met up with 2 other couples who didn't post much on our roll calls but hope to keep in touch from now on - by chance, the other couple and we are on a cruise together next yr and we are all from CA. I am happy you had a great time and perhaps we can meet up on another RCCL cruise someday - we booked for AK while on the 2nd leg - our 3rd cruise in that area - 7days of sailing and 5 days land tour tacked on for May of next yr - regards to Sue - like your review! Corkey Carol

I work full time and will probably have to continue to do so for at least

10 more years.......I live on my own.

I love to cruise and try to go 2 to 3 times a year:) and my next cruise

Hi Again Lois - I just glanced at your cruise pics and I saw Bill and Rosie - I will meet them on the Quantum next April 2015 - CC brings all of us together and makes it a very small cruising world!! Corkey Carol

Hi Lois!! Miss X... glad you are still enjoying your cruises - 56? you are a mere child! I just found this thread and I know I like everyone on it already ! will be in and out ... Corkey Carol

  14. My husband and I are in our early 70s. We started cruising a few years ago and have been doing 2 or 3 cruises a year. We will be celebrating our 53rd anniversary on the Celebrity Silhouette Transatlantic in Nov. Next year, we will be doing a 29 day B2B on that same TA, but combined with a Holy Land tour, celebrating our 54th. We are having a great time and think cruising is the fountain of youth. I think we are getting younger! ;)

Sounds like you are truly energetic and super Young!! We were on the Silhouette when she was new 3 yrs ago - loved being on her -

  15. My late husband and I didn't start cruising until 2007. At that time I was 53 and he was 61. He passed last year and I am still cruising. Did a solo last May on the Getaway, have one the end of this month with a friend, another on the Getaway next May and then my dream vacation doing Hawaii on Pride of America. I miss having his company but I never felt out of place last May. I have heard folks carrying on about aches and issues that are younger than I am. Hate to see them in a few years.

Here is to all of us cruising till we actually take the final cruise off into the sunset.

Love your last statement! Have fun on your next cruise - I am sure your husband is with you in spirit and glad to see you doing what you love ... Corkey Carol

  16. My wife and I have joined the ranks of the 60+ cruising enthusiasts, and intend to 'keep right on cruising'. However, we are but mere babes in swaddling when it comes to my father-in-law. In March 2014 he turned 90 and decided to celebrate an addition to his 250+ lifetime days of cruising by accompanying us on a 29 day HAL re-positioning from Sydney Australia to Vancouver, BC. Hail and hearty health-wise, his legs and balance do present some problems, but nothing he can't live with.

So I've started this thread as a tribute to the real 55+ cruisers. I invite anyone so inclined to regale us all with tributes and stories of similar experiences.

To start you off: at 89 years of age, the father-in-law turned in his 5 year passport and informed his family he had obtained a 10 year passport and was ##@@"" well going to use up the full 10 years. He might just make it, as the average age for passing of most of the males in his family is 96. :)

Hello - Thank You for starting this thread - I think your 90 yr old FIL sounds Great !! my FIL is going to be 98 in Jan 2015 and he looks healthy and 25 yrs younger than his age - I love "Older Youngsters" and enjoy chatting with them on my cruises - I learn a lot and boy! they are a lot of fun... Welcome to Cruise Critic - Host Corkey Carol

  17. Wonderful thread. I just lost my DH a year and 3 months ago, we both loved cruising and had finished our 20th cruise on various lines and 15th onboard Princess. We were to celebrate our 51st Wedding Anniversary one week after he passed.

I'm now a solo cruiser and am loving it still. I desperately miss him but the sea is calling me and I must go.

I travel with a Service Dog and he's my companion now, although I have invited family to join me at times. I don't mind cruising as a solo because you're really never alone. When you have a big Black Lab who accompanies you wherever you go and you're lucky enough to meet like-minded folks, life is good!

Hello Roz: We meet again - been missing you and glad you still travel with a Service Dog- I am sorry to hear about your husband's passing but glad you continue to cruise -

My mind forgets a lot these days but as I recall, wasn't your dog Brenda when we first started chatting on CC ? Corkey Carol

  18. Okay friends I am home and before it gets late, I know you all are waiting for the special announcement I have about my upcoming Quantum cruise to the southern Caribbean on April 12th of next year so here it goes...

First off, I, just like so many of you am disappointed with the decision Royal made to send Quantum to China at the end of April 2015. I don't really have a problem with a business decision, but I have a problem with how it was handled and put out there. But that has already been discussed on these boards and it is what it is... it's not going to change. In my opinion my sailing on Quantum will be even more important now as I will be one of the last sailings to get to experience the first Quantum class ship before she says farewell to North America. I also view a LIVE from Quantum as a potential look in to what Anthem might be.

As many of you know, my friend and fellow LIVE blogger Dale, who goes by MrFunInTheSun on these boards, joined me last November on Allure and we did something that doesn't happen very often: dueling LIVE reviews from the same sailing on the incredible Allure. I know people enjoyed seeing the cruise from two different perspectives and through different photos. Well Dale has now joined my friends and I on our Quantum sailing.

So I thought about it and discussed an idea with Dale and he really liked it so we have decided to take a LIVE review to a whole new level, perhaps a first ever for the Cruise Critic boards. So it gives me great pleasure to announce the following for Quantum sailing April 12th, 2015:

LIVE from Quantum of the Seas, sailing April 12th! A tag team review by Bugsy and MrFunInTheSun. :)

There will probably be other LIVE Reviews going on with you guys too - I already know of one who may do it as this person does I all the time when he/she goes on cruises -- so it'll be fun reading, actually... LOTS of reading for those who will be armchair cruisers for our Quantum sailing - the more the better I say... Host Corkey

  19.
I have a Canon Rebel T3i. A gift from Wes when we found out Isaac was on the way. I wanted to be sure to have clear photos of him. It's a great camera!
Thank You - I love Canons - I use simple one and I also have a semi fancy one ... love the way both take pics in low light and how clearly the zoomed shots are - esp during the shows onboard when you cannot use flash - Yes, your pics are all nice and clear! Host Corkey
