  1. I love history and would like to see some Mayan Ruins while we are in Progreso, but I am not sure how interested my three teenagers (14, 16, & 18) will be in this trip.  Can someone tell me how far each set is from the port?  I am thinking we may not want to do the farthest ones as that would be an all day trip.  Possibly compromise and see some that are closer, so that they can do something they want to do afterwards.  Any suggestions are welcome, especially if the ruins are combined with something more active that my teens might enjoy.  TYIA~

  2. It will be our family's first time on RC, LOS.

Trying to decide about the classic soda package for the kids.  Personally, I don't drink pop very much.  That being said, does everyone in the cabin have to get the package?  And if we do get the package, where do you get drinks?  Do you have to wait along time?  I don't want my kids to have to wait to get their drink while we are all eating......just trying to figure out how it works exactly.

    Thank you!

  3. So we are headed to Galveston to board the LOS in Nov.  I have cruised on Carnival a few times and feel like I know that line pretty well.  But we wanted to try RC and thought this would be a good opportunity.  However, I am starting to do a little research and notice things like you can carry on only 12 drinks per cabin, not 12 pp like Carnival.  Are there any other major differences I should be aware of?

What about Room Service?  Anything else?

    Thank you!!

I got this response from Mr Sanchos yesterday when I attempted to get reservations for some in my party. I have two spots but needed six more.

“We thank you for your preference!

Unfortunately on November 19th, 2019 we are unable to accept more reservations as we have reached our maximum capacity, moreover we want to ensure good customer service and plenty of room for our guests.

Although, feel free to contact us by phone or email anytime after 7:00 am local time on the day of visit to see if we have any cancellations.

We don’t have a waiting list.

    We apologize for the inconvenience.

    Kind regards,

    Mr. Sancho's Beach Club”

I’ve been to Chankanaab as well. Not the same as Sanchos, but the kids would probably enjoy it.

Thank you~ I will def plan on scheduling something else.  Either Paradise or Chankanaab.

Liberty is one of my favorite ships...love the Voyager and Freedom class ships.  Your 12yo will be in Adventure Ocean while the 14 and 16yo will be in the teen club with much less structured activities and the freedom to come and go as they please.   If your boys are the teenagers it would work out well for them to hang together and their sister to have a more structured way to meet her own friends on board.

Thank you, I appreciate the info!  I think it will work well, she's outgoing and will make friends easy!

  6. I've only been on two cruises, but I am serious when it comes to my family vacations!  Doesn't matter if it's WDW, a cross country trip or what~I'm a planner.  Last night, spur of the moment decision, we decided to book a cruise over Thanksgiving to celebrate my husband's retirement.  We are taking our children-12,14,16.  The kids have never been on a cruise and my current work schedule isn't going to allow me time to research like I always do.  We are going to Grand Cayman, Falmouth, & Cozumel out of Galveston.  Leaving Nov 17th.  So what are the most knows about our trip and things you can recommend for my kids.  The boys can hang together and will probably have a great time, but they won't want to hang with their sister 😞

    Thoughts, tips, recommendations are appreciated!!

  7. Sorry to also "hijack" this thread, but what time does the port open up for check in at Galveston? We are sailing on the Freedom, May 19th and have FTTF. This has been a rough year for our family and we are celebrating some important milestones, so we are counting down the moments till we can toss our cares aside for a few days and start our worry free days!

We will be in town the night before, so why not start enjoying our vacation as soon as possible:cool::cool::cool::)

  8. Freedom leaves from GALVESTON so it will be on Central time.

There will be a sign at the gangway, right as you "ding" off the ship, that says back on board time.

There will be signs up at the port with ships NAME and Back on Board time listed on it. Make a not of that when you get off the ship.

Tour companies are well away of the time your ship needs to leave, they can't get guests back late without losing their business. So unless they have some mechanical issue, flat tire, etc, and you are stranded, you can expect to get back to port on time. Just keep in mind...the ship does not have to wait for you if you are back late. Belize is, however, one of the ports I have seen the tenders running long after the "last tender" time due to so many people coming back late from Carnival excursions. As long as there are other tours out later than you, it is safe to say another tender will still be running.

Just my experience...been to Belize 3 times in past few years.

    Thank you ~!

  9. Yes if the ship is coming from Florida chances are it is on DST however so the ships time will be two hours later than local island time during the DST months. At least that's how it was when we sailed Carnival from Port Canaveral in 2016.

We are leaving from Galveston and I am still confused....LOL

  10. Wondering the same for a mother/daughter cruise (early 60 and late 20s). We would like shade, a beach, somewhere to change if possible and maybe something to eat. We have gone to Paradise beach many times but the past two times we have been there it has seemed to have been very commercial and we felt like we were constantly bothered by waiters and others while we were trying to relax on the beach. We are looking for somewhere a bit quieter. We don't need the water toys or snorkeling (although I never mind some snorkeling it isn't a make or break!), or an all inclusive! Any recommendations.

From the research I have done, Playa Palancar seems like it might suit your wishes. But maybe some others will chime in with their opinions.

I think we have settled on Nachi as my nieces wanted an all inclusive, but one quieter than Mr. Sanchos.

When are you all traveling? We are headed out on the Freedom in May as a graduation present.:):):):):)

    :)

  11. Thank you everyone for all the information! I'm going to present Nachi-the quieter and peaceful and Sanchos-more to do for the younger crowd to them. Since it's their graduation present, it's their pick:)

And I am going to look into Playa Uvas for my husband and I's next cruise.

    Thanks again!
