  1. Right!! Lmbo.... they sure think they are. So it’s either they haven’t been on the number they say they have or they were trying to spin it to say what they thought we wanted to hear. I always prefer raw truth. I love the water but having a large portion of the passengers sick for the entire second day of our cruise was really gross. Thank you all for tolerating me through this new experience. You were all very helpful. Enjoy your future cruises.

  2. "This boat has been rocking like crazy for about 12 hours. I’m wondering when it’s expected to calm down. Is this normal on a smaller ship?"

    It's normal on any ship

We had at least a dozen experienced cruisers, prior to this first cruise, tell us that we’d never feel the ship moving. Last Sunday was INSANE. Most of the passengers were not feeling well. It was hard to even walk down the hall. During shows you could see the curtains moving constantly. In our room the hangers never stopped moving that day. I grew up in a lake, I’ve been on plenty of boats. I’ve been on the Great Lakes and in rough waters in Ireland - neither of us minded the rocking there. We didn’t foresee this as a problem for an entire cruise day.

Thank you for letting me know it is like that on any ship. Prior to this were about to book a 13 day Eastern Med with Celebrity but I think maybe we’ll be better off sticking to what we are used to and touring Europe by land. I’m glad we took a sample cruise first. The staff was wonderful. The bars were really cool. There were definitely positives.

  3. Gary (Cruise Wizard) posted on our Brilliance thread, they just came off the Rhapsody into Tampa this morning. Same thing...lots of wild rocking to and fro with many sick passengers.

We leave on Brilliance tomorrow...hoping the seas calm down overnight. :o

Pack enough of the all day Dramamine to take two and have everyone covered for the entire trip. I started mine when the Seas got choppy. I was feeling fine when I started them and never got sick (it’s been about 15 hours of rocking so far). Despite the pills claiming to be the “less drowsy” formula I am a little sleepy and napping a bit. But, I haven’t been sick at all. My husband waited to take them until he was sick and has been fighting all day to leave the room. He made it out twice and had to go straight back. The ship looks like a ghost town. I believe most are in their rooms. I’ve had crew tell me they’ve not experienced this much rocking before. Sorry to be a bummer but I suggest you being proactive instead of optimistic. Also, I’ve taken the advice of a career sailor I met in Ireland. Spend a lot of time outside looking at the horizon. It helps your brain do something (I can’t remember what though - lol). It’s a little chilly not super cold. We are from MI and comfortable out on the deck in t-shirts and shorts/skirts. It’s not snowing here and that’s great :)

  4. Where are you getting drinks for those prices? You can not compare prices on a ship to a local dive or your local elks lodge. If you think those are prices at sporting venues, you haven't been to a game lately either.

The prices on the ship are comparable to restaurant pricing in any major city.

The price of living is lower outside of major cities and a bunch of us live there. I noticed every time I get to a major city (Vegas, Miami, Etc.) I go into sticker shock. I live in Southern MI and our prices are $3-$4 for a tall draft beer. We bought the drink package just so that we had the whole trip paid for long before sailing.

  5. This boat is rocking - not in an AC/DC kind of way!!! How many of you are on this ship right now or in the Western Caribbean? This boat has been rocking like crazy for about 12 hours. I’m wondering when it’s expected to calm down. Is this normal on a smaller ship? Is this happening on any other ships in the same area today? I believe 1/3 or more of our passengers are in their room sick.

  6. So you would chose to do this again? My husband and I are booked for a day in December. I’ve been thinking about buying a Nikon underwater camera to have that day but it sounds like that would be of no benefit. What time would you recommend getting off the ship? I can’t think of anything to ask.

  7. Thanks for the suggestions, but I also have to pack just as much stuff for him too, so double your 38 and...

I'm sure I will mix and match as you and other have suggested.

Many have said they wash things out in the sink. The sinks are very small, so I'm not sure how that would work, also do you then have to pack laundry soap???

Tide has little disposable packets in the travel bins at the store (Meijer here). Woolite has travel packs too (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001E8R488/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_X1I4zbK7YCXCD). I bring it for lingerie when I travel.

  8. 96 items? No way.

First, my suggestions for lowering that number:

    - I pack daytime wear in sets of three; that is, one pair of shorts + two tops.

    - We like to cruise in the fall, so I need a couple light sweaters /wraps. I make sure these match several sets of outfits.

    - Similarly, I make sure my shoes match a number of outfits. I have some foot problems, so I do bring more than I used to; still, limiting shoes is a great way to cut down on suitcases.

What I brought recently for a 14-day cruise -- this was everything except small clothes, including what we wore to board -- it was just right; the best packing I've ever done:

    (3) bikinis + cover ups

    (3) white shorts + blue/white sleeveless top + pink & green top

    (3) lime green shorts + white sleeveless top + lime green stripe tee

    (3) blue shorts + blue floral top + white long sleeved top

    (3) jean shorts + red & white stripe tee + coral sleeveless top

    (5) casual day dresses -- black & white tee, lime green print, black with pink flowers maxi, grey & pink stripe long sleeved tee, pink maxi

    (4) dressy dresses -- coral lace, champagne lace, pink print, purple

    (3) orange & navy print pants + orange long sleeved top + navy sleeveless top

    (3) grey yoga pants + lime green long sleeved tee + pink short sleeved tee

    (3) lightweight sweaters in lime green, pink, white

    (2) hats -- one white ball cap + one straw hat

    (3) nightgowns

    (7) pairs of shoes: tan walking sandals, pink flip-flops, blue flip-flops, black low heel sandals, tan wedge sandals, water shoes, white Keds tennis shoes

As I said, this was a 14-day cruise; I think this was 38 items of clothing + 7 pairs of shoes.

I washed my swimsuits and small clothes in the sink, and I washed some of the tops (I lean towards thin, gauzy tops, so that was easy). I sent two pairs of shorts out in "the bag".

The category I think most people forget is the yoga-pants type thing. I really enjoy having something casual and easy (and oversized) to put on in the room after returning-from-the-island-stop-and-showering-but-not-ready-to-dress-for-dinner. This kind of thing is also convenient to have for the times you want to run up to the buffet to pick up a drink and a cookie. I probably put this outfit on more often than any other outfit I took ... but I rarely wore it more than an hour at a time.

I have not brought this many shoes in the past, but -- as I said -- I'm having some foot problems, and being able to change shoes during the day helps.

I love this concept. I’m packing for my first five day and have 3 outfits a day. My husband will not be happy. Lol. Not sure how I will pack for my 13 day next year. This is a great way to think of it :)

  9. It's odd. I've never experienced anything like what's being discussed; including the person who was tired of being hassled by time share people in Vegas or people selling excursions in ports. It may be that they do pick and choose who they approach.. I've been told by many friends that I have a RBF (resting b*** face); that plus avoiding eye contact and quick to cut people off with a 'not interested'... and I really don't get hassled for sales.

I’m the Vegas one.... you’re probably right. I tend to smile and if I make eye contact I nod. Toward the second half of our last week in VEGAS I could hear my husband whispering to me “don’t make eye contact, don’t make eye contact” every time he spotted a time share person. Unless we were in the Venetian (<3) we were hassled constantly. I actually made the mistake of feeling bad for one and talking to her. We are dinks... they were in love with us and we got stuck for at least a half hour. That’s when we learned you can’t live in Clark County - we live in Michigan but I used that one when I accidentally made eye contact from that point forward. My Dec cruise is a trial for a much more expensive two week cruise - if it goes like Vegas we definitely won’t go again.

  10. Nice. With that theory, there would never ever be any new posts on Cruise Critic.

Right and then when you find an old post and ask a question or make a comment on it they call you out because the post is .... years old. I’m trying to like cc but there’s so many rude people it’s difficult to actually get the information I want without reading through a bunch of needless drama.

  11. For all of you who have My Time Dining on the Anthem of the Seas and your reservations are no longer on your Cruise Planner they might show up on their system once you get onboard. This happened to me last May where I thought they were cancelled but actually they weren't. Good luck and I hope they are there at your cruise time....

I noticed I couldn’t see my reservations for my December cruise on my calendar. It said, “at your leisure.”However, I can see them when I click orders with the correct reservation time. So it looks like they’re still reserved.

  12. I know some people do, but I've never had issues with hard sells on the ships. Before the days of the drink packages, you would get a pool waiter asking if you wanted a drink every 10 minutes, but now you can't get a server at the pool at all. The worse thing I've ever had is a server had me the drink of the day right after I got on board, I thought it was free, then he tried to charge me and I handed it back to him ;) (second cruise).

Based on what people post here, Oasis and Anthem seem to be the worst with the hard sell.

We booked a 13 day Celebrity Eclipse Mediterranean cruise for 2018 and then decided we should “try out” a shorter cruise to make sure we like it. We then booked 5 nights on the Empress for later this year. I bought drink packages and three lunches at Chops already. I’m hoping the sales people aren’t too aggressive. It’s nice to hear it isn’t always the case and if it seems to be an issue you can talk to guest relations. Hopefully a day in the sunshine will offset any annoyances :)

  13. It's people like you with your opinions why I left cruise critic for a few years.....I had a question, I asked it in my own words...I don't have all day to sit around and scroll through hundreds of posts looking for someone who asked a similar question. I imagine every possible question about cruising has been asked before....

Amen! It's not always easy to find a current thread on my topic of interest. People get dogged out for asking questions...the only reason some of us are here is to learn, no to brag and bully others. I'm not impressed with CC so far. The members are too harsh.

  14. Omg... I feel so much better knowing I am not the only one that does this. I have a workbook in One Note with pics of the clothes I bought and what I am wearing with everything. Taking my first cruise in December. I had an eleven page itinerary for two weeks in Ireland. So I am happy for the cruise I just need to worry about clothes and getting there. It will be nice to get on the boat and not have a moment by moment plan.
