  1. Does anyone know why the itinerary is different for this particular cruise. The general itinerary info list Baltimore, Boston., Portland, Bar Harbor, St John, Halifax, Baltimore, but the 17th itinerary has Boston and Portland so we go to Portland first, then to Boston, then to Bar Harbor. Seems odd to have to backtrack just for this date.

  2. Sold as an “inaugural cruise” but was it was not. I believe that RCI should be ashamed of what they did on the Quantum sailing on November 23, 2014. They advertized one thing and didn’t deliver. I like many complained to agoldstein at rccl dot com and got a token “I’m sorry”.

I believe that we were owed much more. If you too think that RCI has grown so big that they no longer respect their client base, you are in agreement with their management. This cruise had a passenger base predominately D, D+, and Pinnacle. I shutter to think how this line is treating new cruiser!

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CRUISE LINE I LOVED?

Couldn't agree more! I'm a Diamond member. I was also on that cruise and sent a 5-page letter to Mr. Goldstein and Mr. Fain. All I got was a "we're sorry" letter, as well, and a promise of a surprise on a future cruise. I wasn't expecting a full refund or anything even close, but the lack of a more adequate response led me to the same conclusion as you - what has happened to my cruise line?? So much for being "Loyal to Royal." Time to explore other cruise lines!

  3. I, too, was disappointed with the "Inaugural" cruise. I expected some kind of send-off - champagne, fire boats, etc to mark this special event, but there was nothing - other than a hat, an art book, and a printed certificate.

The elevators were horrible - always seemed at leas one in each bank was out of service, and the floor announcement for "Deck 'laven" rather than deck eleven was the joke of many fellow passenger on the elevator. I joked that I would get off at Deck 10 or 12 just to avoid hearing "Deck 'laven" again!

Rooms were nicely done, but we paid for virtual balcony. Picture was super - very nice feature, but no sound the entire week! As other noted, TV reservation system didn't work, and showed I had not spent anything on the cruise just a day before debarkation. Cost of Royal WIFI ($$00 for the week for top speed) was nonsense.

I, too, got stuck in North Star on last day (actually that was kind of nice - got more time to enjoy the view), but others noted that the elevator to take disabled to North Star broke early in the cruise and was inoperable.

Am writing letter to RCL now. Overall, VERY disappointed!!

  4. Booked this cruise last year when bookings opened and was looking forward to the specialness of an Inaugural Cruise and the high tech ship loaded with smart, "game-changing technology."

Let's see: Royal IQ app for Android - not available yet! Royal WIFI - cost too much ($400 for the week for the highest speed). Virtual Balcony - Sound wasn't working all week. TV screen reservations - didn't work. TV calendar - not accurate. TV messaging - Got message saying I was paying cash (not true). Starwater - 15 minute delay due to computer glitch. Excursion tablets - swiping card or RFID didn't work; had to log in manually. Restaurants - RFID and card didn't work either; had to give room number. Four water fountains on pool deck - closed for maintenance. North Star - got stuck in air due to glitch (actually that was fun). Specialness of Inaugural Cruise - nope! Just a printed piece of paper saying you were on board. Almost always had an elevator out of service in any bank of elevators.

My wife and loved the entertainment - especially Mamma Mia, Sonic Odyssey, Ronn Lucas, and Mo5aic. Food was good - we really liked Silk. Cabins nice - more spacious.

Despite the nice things above, overall we were very disappointed.

My wife spoke to a woman on our floor as we were heading to the departure lounge. She was doing a back-to-back 12 -nighter. She said she really regretted booking back-to-backs ans she HATED the ship!! Not what RCL was hoping for, I'm sure.

  5. Let me tackle a few of these. First, recognize that many folks will have different opinions. Must dos for me may not mean a hill of beans to the next guy. This is a very nice ship. Keep in mind that it is a very large ship. that means lots of people. Don't be alarmed if you have to wait a few minutes around meal times to catch the elevator.

Must do: Ice show, eat at Portofinos, Flowrider (especially for the teen), see the parade in the promenade.

Skip: Art show, ship photographers (IMHO)

Drinks: Our preference was relaxing in the Viking Crowne Lounge over looking the pools.

Food: Did I mention Portofinos yet?

Entertainment: Varies, just see the shows that you can. But be sure to see the ice show and Quest.

Sunset and/or sunrise: Balcony with a beverage

Teens: Yes, we traveled in November and there were lots of teens. Teenager should like the rock wall and the Flowrider. There are many other teen activities.

Room for three: Plenty of room for sleeping, but you will have to use every inch of storage space.

English pub: Small. There were a few small events there like trivia. This was not the highlight of the cruise for me.

    Have a great time!

    Mike

I'll add a bit. Haven't been on Liberty yet (January 17th 2009), but was on Freedom Sept 07.

Sunset good from anywhere. My favorite spots - the heliport and the top deck forward (Observation Deck). We also like the promenade deck. Most people seem to hang out in the Casino or at the pools, so we can sit by the railing, relax, enjoy the air and the sound of the wavers with almost no one else around.

Ice Skating would be great for 15 yo son, as well as the Flowrider. I plan to do the Flowrider in January. Rock climbing wall, miniature golf.

Food is also great: My favorites, Garlic Soup, Roast Turkey Dinner and NY Strip dinner on last night (I usually order both) and _ I hope they have it on Liberty (we just had it for first time on Mariner in Sept 08 - Nasi Goreng, and Indonesian Fried Rice dish. It was terrific!!

Actually, anywhere on the ship is better than being anywhere on land - I don't care if we ever stop.

Labadee (did that in Sept 08) was nice, but it was raining. It has nice, sandy beaches, lots of water activities, and they cook lunch on the shore.

    Anchors aweigh!!!;)
