  1. Hey Folks!

Time to resurrect my account and post on this board. Its time to look at a new cruise.

For one reason or another, we are thinking about doing a Cruise over the Christmas period for the 4 of us (my wife, two teen daughters and myself). At the moment we are looking at either the 9 or 10 day Carnival cruises leaving 17th and 19th of December respectively.

Is there anyone on here that have done Christmas cruises? From a people point of view, what are they like? Is it just like any other period, with a Christmas Cracker thrown in? Is it mainly big family groups sticking together, or is there much mingling (especially for the kids).

    Looking forward to any opinions.

    Cheers

  2. Hi Folks,

In two short weeks I am heading off on my first cruise with my family. We are sailing on the Carnival Spirit, leaving Monday the 9th of October. We are flying in from Adelaide, due to arrive @ Sydney Airport at 11:30. The cruise is due to depart @ 4:00PM.

Is this pushing it fine with potential delays in flights? Should we be arriving the night before? What are other peoples thoughts? Its going to cost us around another $650 to reschedule our flights and a nights accomodation (depending on where we stay, for 4 people).

    Cheers

  3. Welcome to Cruise Critic ShootsWithFilm :)

You are the only person I know who still uses film!!

You'd be surprised by the number of people who use film. Typically, its people who move away and come back. For me its a hobby (I still have digital cameras) and something that I like doing.

Yes, once you have check in your hand luggage will getX-ray (similar to airport security)

Your film will be fine going thought the x-ray, if you want it hand inspected, you could ask, but don't be surprised if they say it has to go thought X-ray, other wise you wont be able to take it on the ship.

The security they use to do the screening for Carnival in Sydney are very grumpy, just a warning ;) (learn this for past experience).

OK, that's fine. Typically, film is OK up to ISO 800, but its a cumulative thing - I.E., the more Xrays it goes through, the higher chance it will get effected. I tend to ask for a hand inspection if A) I have time and B) the airport staff don't look overly stressed.

Cheers for the responses (& the others as well).

  4. Hi Folks!

This is my first post, so please be nice! This is also my first cruise.

I am going on the Spirit for the 8 day Pacific cruise in October, with my significant other (wife) and two teenagerish daughters. While we want some family time, we also want to time out a bit, but in this day and age, we do want to be able to be in contact with each other.

I have noticed that the Carnival Hub App is now available on Spirit and for $9 per person per trip, it can be used for chat. Sounds good to me and a far better alternative to using hand held UHF radios which we were looking into.

Anyhow, I can see that on US departures, the network connectivity is via the On-board free WiFi. Can anyone confirm that this is the case on the Spirit departing from Sydney?

    Cheers
