  1. Thank you for the replies!

I love the idea of watching the fireworks on the beach, especially from a balcony. I was looking at LaQuinta on Cocoa Beach. It is kind of spendy so I just want to make sure this is the best location. The recommended hotels on Cocoa Beach seems to be the “newer” hotels closer to the port. Radisson, springhill, home2home ect. Wondering if it is better to be in these areas and uber/walk somewhere. As we will be there for 2 days.
seaworld hotels are another great idea. Neither of those hotels have balconies, but being by the pool might be great as well.
we just have no idea, and hoping for ideas.
Of course with the craziness going on right now, it makes it even harder to know what to do.

  2. We are booked on Harmony of the Seas Jan 2, 2022. We thought it would be fun to go in early and celebrate NYE.
my question is where do we want to spend NYE?
    1. Cocoa Beach, hotel or VrBO, on beach. Watch fireworks over the ocean?

    2. Cocoa beach but not on beach, up by the port. The hotels people recommend are newer and seem like they might have more going on. TiKi bars ect.
    3. stay in Orlando. If there was a place close to Disney to watch some of the fireworks but not cost a fortune?
    4. any other ideas.
of course this is all optimistic for a more “normal” NYE.

we are not crazy party girls, but would enjoy something fun.

  3. I'm fairly certain it is a guided tour with a person. If it was an audioguide I think they would say so....they use the term "audioguide" elsewhere.

But if you want confirmation, call the number listed. I've called them before and they are very helpful and informative. In fact, just call when you want to make your reservations.

We did this tour a couple years ago, I can’t believe it has been that long. [emoji4]It is a real person and it was an amazing tour. Really a highlight of Rome.

  4. We were in Cozumel on Christmas Day. We booked the Mayan laser tag through Chankanaab Park. It was so much fun. We were a group of 8 with ages ranging from 13-60ish.

They split us up into 2 teams of 4 and gave us our gear. We wore a vest with sensors on it and had a gun with 100 shots (you could reload up to 12 times) they walked us through the area we would be playing. You are not allowed to hold anything so no cameras, phones ect. If you have a go pro you can wear a helmet and attach it. We played 3 different “games”.

First it was a free for all. You can be hit 10 times before you are out.

    Next was team against team.

Finally we played all of us against the 2 guides.

After about an hour we were done and able to enjoy the rest of the park. The ocean felt amazing after all that running around.

We all enjoyed it, laughed a lot and agreed we would do it again if ever the opportunity arose again.

The guides were wonderful and I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking for something a little different.

  5. Roatan:

As you all know Carnival docks at Mahogany Bay which provides an excellent opportunity for a beach day. Our entire squad would be a group of "beach bums" so this seemed the most appropriate way to spend the day. However, the wife and I had a surprise up our sleeve for the rest of the unsuspecting squad...

During our previous trip to Mahogany Bay we noticed there is a "Grand" Cabana located at the far end of the cabana area. This unit sits elevated relative to all of the rest of the cabanas and appeared to provide space for a larger number of people. After a lot of researching and spending time tracking down the Beach Manager at Mahogany Bay via email prior to the cruise, we booked this large cabana for the entire squad.

Let me say this move proved crucial as it provide a space for us to beat the storm that passed through during mid-morning. After the storm passed we spent the rest of the day floating in the water and enjoying time together. The cabana also provided a space for the wife to get out of the afternoon heat and relax in an air conditioned space. The amenities included:

    - AC

    - TV which stayed glued to sports all day for us to get periodic updates

    - Safe

    - A refrigerator full of beer, sodas, and water

    - Snacks

    - Lounge Chairs - we supplemented the number of chairs with extra from the nearby beach area

    - Floats to use in the water

    - Johnny the Waiter who is the absolute man and kept us full and refreshed all day once the beer/snack supply was diminished. The moment we asked him to turn the rain off it stopped which was pretty wild!

If you have a larger group I would recommend renting the cabana. Overall Mahogany Bay was a relaxing day for the entire group.

This looks amazing! As soon as I read this I started looking for how to email the beach manager. I found there site, I think, and sent an email asking about the Grand Cabana. Of course it said someone would respond within 48hrs. Unfortunately that was on Monday and I still have not heard back.

I went back to their site and read the FAQ. It states that ALL excursions must be purchased through the cruise ship.

Would it be possible to share who you contacted to reserve this?

  6. Petroplex

I know it has been a while but can you give any details about the laser tag adventure in chankanaab

    please?!

Mostly interested in “how it works”. The area where it is played and the length of time and if your skill level determines this. For example are you out of the game if you get hit a certain number of times.

We thought this might be a fun thing to do as a family on Christmas Day!

I keep trying to find reviews without any luck.

  7. We also wanted something “different” in Cozumel (especially because we will be there on Christmas Day) we are a group of 8 ranging in ages from 13-65 and thought the laser tag looked like a blast! It also includes the admission into Chankanaab Park so there is so many choices.

We immensely enjoyed playing laser tag in Chankanaab Park. That also leaves you the option to participate in some of their other high-adventure activities if you want.

Petroplex, if you are seeing this can you give some details on the laser tag? My biggest question is about the length of time you can play. Do you play until you are “hit” a certain number of times or are you able to play for the duration and at the end it says how many times you were hit? It could be kind of pricey if you can be knocked out if the game within 10 min! Can you tell I am unsure of my ability.... lol.

    Thank you!

OP have a great cruise and let us know what you decide to do!!

  8. Guest2000 has some good very good advice. I'm not sure how many of you there are, but I find it hard to believe that you would pay $25 p/p to get to West Bay Beach. However, that being said I've never done that from a cruise so maybe that's the going rate. We often cab on Roatan and usually pay one fee for a group of us. But we are always there on land based vacations so maybe that's the difference.

I agree with Guest though, do you really want to do the haggling and the bother of getting there and back. I would either arrange transportation prior or just go with a package. George at Roatan Custom Tours or Cleve's Tours and Adventures could set you up with transportation if you're so inclined. Another thing to be aware of is yes, the beach is "public" but on cruise ship days, the beach is busy. There are places you could definitely throw down a towel but laying in the sand is not recommended due to the sand fleas. I think you'd be more comfortable having a lounger and an umbrella. Plus, those places along West Bay have some pretty good food and it's great to sit and people watch.

I also would add that we stay right next to Tabyana Beach at Infinity Bay. It's a pretty nice setup they have there at Tabyana. Sure, the chairs are crowded, but any of the resorts that sell day passes pack them in like sardines anyway. There's lots of shade, souvenir shops and places to eat towards the back area, and then the beach chairs are at the front by the beach. You can rent kayaks, snorkel gear (although I would never ever rent a snorkel). Plus the best snorkelling is right there by Tabyana. I'm not sure how it works there, not sure if you can just take a cab or if you have to go through the ship but maybe they just have a transportation/lounge chair option. Then you can eat and get drinks elsewhere. There are lots of food and drink specials along the beach.

The day pass I was looking at is infinity bay. They do not include transportation but said they could help set it up and it would be about $20-$25 per person.

It looks like a beautiful area and I know we would enjoy it. But it all adds up fast ($320 for a beach day that doesn't include any food, drink, or activities)

I will continue to look at other beach clubs and activities. If this is the going rate then I think Infinity Bay is the best option.

    Thanks again for the advice.

  9. I am interested in this as well. We are looking at a day trip to a west bay resort but they do not rent any of these items. Can anybody rent from here?

There are locals on the beach offering snorkel and mask to rent. There also are probably 12 dive shops you can rent from. With all that said, I would not use someone else's toothbrush you can bet I would not be using someone elses snorkel in a third world country.

We will have our own snorkel mask but would like to rent flotation and fins. We also want to use water toys. Kayaks, paddleboards, things like that.

  10. Thanks for attempting to answer.

It is confusing, because I am confused with West Bay. I'll try to clarify.

The day pass is $19pp but that only includes beach chair, pool, wi-fu and a welcome drink. It is about $20pp for transportation. That together is about $40pp.

I was trying to find info about DIY to west bay. With unregulated taxis and a popular beach I was not sure if this is a good idea. I think it would be $25-$30pp for transportation only.

My main question is.. is this actually correct? Is it worth $40pp for a beach chair, wi-fi, pool and transportation. We would know we have a place to sit but would it really separate us from the crowds? It is a double edge sword, we like to be around things for the teens to enjoy (water toys etc) but don't want to be packed in like sardines on the beach.

I know Tabyana is where the cruise ship excursions go which usually is a red flag for me.

Sandfleas are always a concern. It is safe to assume the more popular beaches have less problems since they are disturbed so much and the beach clubs rake? Is there a time of year that is better/worse then other times? We will be there between Christmas and New Years.

Thank you again for taking the time to try and help us.

  11. I just checked out the Chankanbb website and it looks really cool. Is it far from the pier? Did you go on your own or plan an excursion? There doesn't seem to be a price list for the activities on their page...any idea how I can get one? Also was there a beach there as well to just relax? What are some things you did there? I'd appreciate any information you can share. :D

I contacted chankanaab and asked about the prices. Here is what he said:

-Snorkel gear $15 unlimited time (this is not a guide)

    -kayaks $30 for 30 min

    -SNUBA $60

    -sea trek $80

I also emailed xtrem park about prices separate from package with admission to park. here is their response:

-Zip line 6 lines: $60 usd per person. This circuit starts in one point T1 pass over the lagoon, then to the canopy area and then goes back to the same beggining point.

-zipline 7lines, 2 suspended crocodile bridges and tubbing slide track. This circuit starts in our main tower T1, passing over the lagoon twice, waive crocodiles from air in our crocodile bridges and the funiest way to go back in groun is in our tubbin slide on a dry track at the very end of the park. Price per person $85 usd.

-Mayan Laser Tag: $45 usd per person, includes 1 hr game. For this, we require minimum of 4 persons.

As for the dolphins/manatees/sea lions you have to contact dolphindiscovery (just add a .com at the end. )

    Hope that helps

  12. do you happen to know how much they charge to rent the snorkeling equipment and kayak?

  13. We will be in roatan with 1 other ship (in MB not sure about other pier)

I found a day pass for $19pp, includes beach chairs, pool, wifi, and welcome drink. They can help set up other activities and transportation.

My question is.. is it worth about $40pp for transportation, beach chair and possible pool use? Even DIY transportation looks to be $25pp just to get to West Bay.

I assume the beach is all public so anyone can sit anywhere. So doing a day pass at a resort doesn't really get you away from the crowds?

  14. We will be stopping in Costa Maya in Dec. I have been to this port before but it was over 10 years ago. I can not believe how much has changed. At the time I was there you were lucky if there were chairs on the beaches. LOL

This time we have 3 teens with us and I am assuming with the increase in visitors there has been an increase in amenities. A couple things they REALLY want to do are kayak and paddle board. I am hoping to find a beach that would offer both of these amenities. I am not interested in an AI, as our time in port is very short. (7-2)

I have been very surprised that this is not an easy thing to find.

    Thank you for any help/advice.
