  1. In 2017 when we moved to the US we booked our pup onto the QM2 a couple of months before departure. There was kennel space left over on that voyage.

We’re moving back to the UK now and when I called last month I was told kennels are booked up until 2021 for all crossings!

I called again today just on the off chance that there’s kennel space on the April crossing and the guy literally laughed at me. I asked if it had always been this way or if it had just blown up recently. He said it had blown up recently and got super popular.

Can anyone shed any light on what happened? Why so much popularity all of a sudden? I’m guessing most people who hook dogs on are moving like we did. That’s a lot of forward planning if all those folks are moving.

Unfortunately our trip home means we’ll have to book him onto a plane which were not happy about and it also means we’ll fly. No relaxing time on board and less suitcase space. It’s a real shame. What happened?...

  2. After nearly two years, my wife finally edited this and put it on YouTube.

Even though it’s our crossing video, I’d have loved to have seen something like this before I went as it would help answer a lot of the questions we had.

We emigrated to the US on the QM2 because it was the cheapest way of bringing our dog!

It was one of the best things we ever did. I hope the video is useful or interesting to those who are anticipating their first trip!

There’s a great little cameo from Roy Walker as well!!!

  3. If you have a weight limit due to flying, the airline is more likely to be the arbiter. If you know the airline looking at their limits might be helpful. At Southampton 20 or 23 kgs are very unlikely to have the staff making it an issue. I have never seen any evidence of bags being weighed there.

    Regards John

Thanks John. We're not coming back so hopefully our 24kg bags won't be an issue!!!

  4. We're packing for the QM2 and we have a lot of luggage due to our move. Cunard's website say 23kg per bag but my e-ticket says 20kg.

Can anybody clarify what's acceptable? (And if going a bit over is an issue)...

  5. Yes, I've read that too - and I think it makes perfect sense. My educated guess is that kennel passengers and their humans have embarkation/disembarkation priority over every other category, but I suppose that means their humans have to be up at the bark of dawn :D

    Cheers,

    Salacia

Our embarkation time is 14:30 so I don't think it's an issue on the way there. I guess getting off is easier if you're first though?

  6. We will have 4 bottles of wine/ champagne in each of 6 people's cases plus a bottle of gin so hardly "dragging crates". Cunard make a good return on the corkage as they have no inventory costs.

Sent from my SM-G930F using Forums mobile app

Never mind the corkage! It sounds like an after party at yours!!!

  7. Any run through on boarding would be appreciated.

We are scheduled to board at 14:30 hours and have no intention of getting there before 14:00.

Plus we have a dog with us (and will be heavily laden with a lot of luggage - Cunard tell us we can bring as much as we can fit in our stateroom).

What happens once we board? Is is straight to our stateroom or do we go to a bar or get some food? All the advice says get to the pool as it's empty!!! What happens to bad etc and when is the emergency muster?

Any andvice or step by step walkthrough would help us know what to pack and where (and seriously we're moving to a ranch so we'll have wellies packed...)

  8. I'm very happy to hear that the beer rumour has been quashed. I like a beer but I don't even know if I'll have any with my meal. It was just the faux snobbery that distressed me! Thanks all and thanks Hattie for your info.

  9. Protesting bear drinkers being led out of the MDR is a common sight.

But even I draw the line at the consumption of liquidised bear. Outside of Siberia, such things are barbaric.

  10. Toad is correct. Protesting bear drinkers being led out of the MDR is a common sight. CAMRA members are put ashore at the next port.

    You gotta believe it.

    David.

Again, I simply cannot believe that people are banned from drinking what they like. If this kind of pretentious bs makes people feel 'set apart' or 'proper' then they've clearly never mixed in genuinely decent society circles (by their blinkered standards). Where hosts are more accommodating. And people are real. I'm a very 'ordinary' person but due to my wife's connections I've mixed in with some very exclusive circles (again, by the standards lauded by those who gush at such things). And guess what? People of 'high standing' drink beer. With their dinner (oh the horror).

While I'm convinced that this is a joke, I'll be avoiding the more stuck up areas of my crossing. I was put off booking this trip for these reasons. People assured me it wasn't really full of such wide of the mark snobbery. Maybe it really is.

  11. Details of packages are on the Cunard website

    https://ask.cunard.com/help/cunard/life-on-board/drinks_package

Soft Drinks, coffee, wine but no beer !

It was my understanding that coffee was included in the overall price at various locations onboard. What about at breakfast? Or room service? Surely they can't bring you your breakfast and charge you for the coffee?!? Some clarification from those in the know would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

  12. As a paying customer you are not allowed to have whatever you like. You can only have what Cunard deem acceptable. If you order a pint the head waiter will have you forcibly removed from your table.

If this is a serious comment then the extraordinary levels of snobbery are very unbecoming from Cunard. I trust this is a joke.

  13. Thanks for these really good tips regarding warm clothing.

My wife is one of those people who is freezing when everyone else has stripped off and complains of it being too hot when everyone else is wrapped up. She says it's because she's a redhead which I think is total rubbish. But nonetheless if she isn't wrapped up to the max at some point it'll be miserable for everyone! So thanks for the tips! I think I was naively assuming that an August crossing would be summery and hot outside! Having lived in the South Atlantic I think I just assumed it would be like that!!!
