  1. On our first day in Reykjavik we dock at 2 pm and are booked on a 10 hour South Coast tour.

Can you tell me who you booked the South Coast tour through? We would like to see the South Coast, but the Disney Magic's schedule has us off the boat at 8:30, and that seems to be the pick up time for many of the tour operators. Thanks in advance for your help!

  2.

Also consider Nat Express for your transfer to Dover. Altho Princess transfer fares seem to be more reasonable than most cruise lines they're still wildly over-priced - Nat Express costs only £5 to £6 pp.

Bus leaves from the same coach station, at about 2hrs 15 the journey time is only marginally longer due to half-a-dozen stops en-route. It's a max £10 taxi fare from the town centre stop to the cruise terminal, but the coach drivers usually offer to drop cruise passengers at the cruise terminal "as a favour". Tip the driver £5 per couple for that favour and everyone's happy. :)

But the facility to switch from the booked coach to an earlier or later one doesn't apply (only applies to journeys from airports) so it's wise to pre-book and be sure not to miss the bus.

    JB :)

Which Dover stop would you choose for the cruise? We are cruising Disney and the National Express fares are so much cheaper. Is getting a taxi in Dover ever an issue? Thanks for your help.

  3. I would appreciate any information you have on Deer Mountain, and Lower Dewey Lake / Yakutania Point. If email is easier, you can send it to kandtquigley at hotmail.com. Thank you in advance!

We have traveled to these ports several times and very much enjoy the hiking! We have never gone with a tour group, but always meet others along the way and have an enjoyable experience. Here's what we like to do at each port:

Juneau: Hike from ship (via Basin Road) to the top of the Mt. Roberts Tram. $10 to take the tram down (or "free" if you purchase at least $10 worth of food/merchandise at the gift shop). Also, hiking beginning at Mt. Roberts tram building to the top of the mtn. is terrific as well. Perseverance Trail is another one I like- better if you are into trail running and wanting to not have as many obstacles (rocks, switchbacks, roots).

    Ketchikan: Deer Mountain!

Skagway: Upper Dewey Lake is beautiful but we often choose to hike around Lower Dewey Lake then Yakutania Point after lunch.

Let me know if you want more info/maps. I have everything saved on my laptop- since we go often enough (but not so often that I don't need to reference walking directions to the trailhead anymore!)

  4. Does anyone know if it's possible to buy the Sky Train tickets in advance? We will be in Vancouver the day before our cruise and was hoping I could buy the tickets to use after the cruise, to get back to the airport.

  5. I'm hoping someone can help me decide which port we should do the trip to Trollsigen.

    From Alesund:

    On this tour you will:

Board your motorcoach and travel approximately 75 minutes across Ålesund, through the scenic Størfjorden and on to the medieval Stordal Church.

Arrive at the Stordal Church for an approximate 15-minute tour that includes historic frescos and rose paintings before reboarding the motorcoach and heading approximately 30 minutes to Valldal.

Spend approximately 30 minutes at Valldal, a valley famous for strawberry and other commercial fruit production, which extends from the fjord in the south to the Trollstigen (Troll Path) in the north. Explore the lower valley area on your own before heading to lunch.

Reboard your coach and travel along the valley and the Trollstigen to the gorgeous Gudbrandsjuvet Gorge for a brief photo stop as you overlook this 16-foot-wide and 80-foot-deep gorge with a foaming river deep below.

Arrive at the Trollstigen view point, where you will have approximately 75 minutes to enjoy the breathtaking views (weather permitting) and purchase lunch or a snack at an additional cost. This is also a great stop to browse for souvenirs.

Reboard your motorcoach and head along the Troll Path road experiencing its 11 hair-pin turns on your way to the Isterdalen Valley passing the 585-foot Stigfoss waterfall on your approximately 60-minute drive to Troll Wall.

Arrive at Troll Wall, the tallest vertical rock face in Europe, for a photo stop and approximately 20 minutes of self-guided exploration. Soaring nearly 3,600 feet (1100 meters), the wall was thought to be unclimbable until a Norwegian and American team scaled it in 1965.

Reboard your motorcoach to continue along the Trollstigen on your approximate 2-hour return to Ålesund.

    From Molde:

Board an air-conditioned motorcoach for a short transfer onto a ferry for the approximately 35-minute journey across the beautiful fjord to Vestnes.

Head along the fjord during an approximately 150-minute scenic drive up Skorgedalen valley through Ørskog and Sjøholt. Travel through areas known for their salmon fishing and on to Liabygd, through Valldal and onto the mountain plateau.

Arrive at the plateau and center of the Trolltindene mountain range, where you’ll have approximately one hour of leisure time to purchase lunch and the local café, peruse the shops or explore the amazing viewpoints of the valley below.

Continue down the “Troll Path” for an approximately 45-minute ride with 11 hairpin turns on your way to the Isterdalen Valley. You’ll pass the 585-foot Stigfoss waterfall on your way to Troll Wall.

Arrive at Troll Wall, the tallest vertical rock face in Europe, for a photo stop and approximately 20 minutes of self-guided exploration. Soaring nearly 3,600 feet (1100 meters), the wall was thought to be unclimbable until a Norwegian and American team summited it in 1965.

Head from the Troll Wall down to sea level and along the edge of the fjord for your approximately 50-minute journey to the Åfarnes ferry pier.

Board the ferry for an approximately 20-minute trip to Sølsnes. Once on the other side, conclude the journey with the approximately 40-minute scenic trip back to Molde.

    Any advice is appreciated!

  6. We stayed at the Airport Hilton for $160 at the end of May this year. Rate included an extremely good buffet breakfast. Direct access to the airport, metro, train and bus. Large room with 2 queens, bath, shower and inroom coffee. Would definitely stay there again for ease of access to airport and transportation.

We are looking at staying at the Hilton next year, but the rates are much more expensive. Any tricks to getting a cheaper rate?

  7. I came across this article and wanted to share it with you all.

The site is only in Norwegian but the pictures are nice:D

The waterfall walk starts from either the Hotel Union or the Fjord senter and follows the waterfall/river down to Geiranger.

There are 327 steps and as you see from the pictures the walk looks amazing. I can not wait to do the walk myself.

The walk will take approx 30 minutes.

Do you have to pay admission to do the walk, or is it free? Thanks!

  8. A ship tour we are looking at stops in Marigot for an hour. We don't have a lot of interest in shopping. Would it be possible to walk to Fort Louis? Anyone have directions on how to get there? Thanks!

  9. We did it with a 6 and 9 year old. Our guide was excellent and led both our kids by the hand when it was needed. The water is deep in a few spots, but as long as you can "doggie paddle", the life vest keeps you above water. It was an incredible excursion! My kids loved it! I'd be happy to answer any other questions.
