  1. Ha! I was laughed at for bringing along my decibel meter (along with my portable breathalyzer and a current issue of Vogue I can use to determine dressiness of Formal Night dinner partners), but now who's laughing (at a respectful 42db so as not to bother anyone else).

    My partner works in behavioral field and this is pretty much spot on, there's not much the airline could have done.

     

    The family wasn't denied flights out, they just made the hard decision to not put any more stress on Elijah or passengers / crew on other flights. Unfortunately, that's sometimes the choices that have to be made here. It makes the story so much more heartwarming because it looks like a whole bunch of people just trying to do what's right to keep everyone safe and happy.

    We've done it once for an anniversary dinner at the steakhouse and really enjoyed it. I didn't think it was disgusting at all. There were only 4 gummies. The other little things in addition to the ice cream sphere were kind of like brownies and fudge. We were full from our steak and weren't able to finish it, but we really liked what we were able to eat.

     

     

    Ah, yes this looks exactly like what we received (though I was able to convince them to double the raspberry syrup. Absolutely delicious.

  5. This is going to be a small sample size so I apologize but we received a discount offer for Cheers for our 2017 cruise (Which was a capacity sailing) but didn't receive one for our 2021 cruise (which was vastly lower capacity). 

     

    We did, however, receive a spa coupon like the above poster mentioned for each one.

    I.. didn't say I was? I'm very sorry, I was just expressing my shock considering my own professional experience has been vastly different. Didn't mean to hit a nerve, though thanks for the reminder of why I got out of the field.

    As someone who served and explained fine dining prix fixe for many, many years you have had the rare experience where it is the younger folks with no respect.

     

    I cannot think of a single time I had issues with guests under 40 in those meals. I also can't remember a single night where I didn't have at least one table of 40+'s talk constantly, complain about the food, ask me if I'm sure I knew what I was doing (Pretty sure I did since I made the food you're eating), or just generally disrespect the members of the staff and the time and effort going into it. 

     

    Now I'll have to try the chefs table to see if I can get a group of these rogue "under 36-year-olds" and find out where they've been all my life.

    I swear, some people would forget their towel if it wasn't secured to their deck chair by 6:25am.

    I asked before and was told first night is casual, subsequent nights would be a bit more formal. I wore jeans and a button down shirt and didn't get looked at twice. 

     

    Actually, now that I'm thinking about this I'm a little upset. I looked darn good in that shirt and those jeans really showed off my calves. Those once-lookers don't know what they were missing.

  10. We're traveling with a first-timer who is getting their first vacation in six years. Even though we booked separately we were able to get rooms close to one another (about four rooms down) which was something our friend asked for so they didn't feel too alone. It didn't click with me at first, but upon our first planning session it turns out that the rat bastard got himself a window view while we're traveling like our normal peon self's in an interior room. 

     

    This will not stand. 

     

    I've been rather lucky with the upgrade fairy in past and I'm batting 1.000 when it comes to getting the call (out of... two cruises so data points might be a little sparse) even though we've never taken them up on the offer. In order to put our friend in his place I'd like to finally accept should they call again, but I'd hate for our friend to feel like we're abandoning him to the lower decks while we live the high upgrade life. All this being said, what are the chances that we'd be offered to upgrade yet move together? I'm under the impression that upgrades are for specific rooms (As in they know what rooms are empty and specifically look to fill those instead of moving folks about), do they offer moving cruise companions as well? 

     

    I'm betting the answer is no, but I thought I'd ask the fine folks here on Cruise Critic and the rest of you as well.

We usually (Well, the two times we've been on a cruise) sail on the Magic and our last trip we really enjoyed standing out on the bow of the ship on the promenade level to wave at the Port Canaveral Jetty Park folks as we leave (Don't make fun of us, we're young-ish and allowed to have quirks). I'm browsing through the Freedom deckplan and I can't seem to find a comparable area on the ship. In fact, it looks like the Serenity deck is the only place like that. 

     

    Am I misreading the plans here? All in all it seems like there's a lot less outdoors-y spots to sit. We definitely going to be missing our aft vaping spot from the Magic.

    It's been awhile since I did ordering for a restaurant that sold it, but private label marketing for things adjacent to Killians Red was a big thing back in the day, though as the previous poster said I believe it was A-B that had the biggest red ale (Or, you know... Just ale) that was a private label. 

     

    That being said, (red) ales in general have gone by the wayside in the past five to ten years and do not sell well at all. At my last gig I ended up dumping almost a quarter of a keg, and this was a bar where going through two kegs a day for most everything we had on tap was normal. In general folks are looking for a wider variety when they venture away from American (pale) lagers (Which still reign king as far as mass consumption in the states, though not by purchase or dollar) and production on things like (red) Ales and even straight lagers has slowed considerably as the mass breweries adjust to produce what sells.

     

    It would be completely understandable for A-B or MillerCoors or whoever created the original Thirsty Red to have switched production away and not be able to meet Carnivals demands. 

    EDIT: Immediately after posting this I looked through my old, old email for a pricing sheet and, judging from the beers it's listed near, I believe it was A-B that had the private label. Also this is a really, really old price sheet as it's listed as $49 for a half barrel lol
