  1. Looking for some advise …
We are on the Jan 28 Panama Canal cruise …. Disembarking in LA as we all know.
As we are from Canada, we have to get a PCR test out in the parking lot before heading off to LAX. We need it to get back into Canada via Air.

What happens if we test positive?

Do they transport us off to Devils Island for 10 days
Are left to our own devises
Can we go to any hotel or are there designed ones for sickies
Do we have to be fed under the door or can we forage for ourselves

Can find health orders for US citizens…basically…go home but nothing travellers.
Any help will be much appreciated

I guess you have never been on a cruise ship where people are coughing a lot. Many many people board cruise ships who are already sick.

If you are denied boarding for a medical reason (showing symptoms of an illness) your recourse is through your trip insurance.

If you are asking about a possible illness, or something such as the new travel limitations imposed by the Corona virus, that has a lot of variables involved which might include voluntary reimbursement by the cruiseline, but they are not obligated to do so.

Travel insurance might provide some relief, but there are limits as to when the policy was purchased and what Specific coverage you purchased.

  3. Thanks for the help.

I’ve been on a number of cruises...the demographic is typically older folks ( like me) who have various complaints but not what one might call “sick”

The cruise lines, and especially Princess right now, are hyper sensitive and boarding refusals will no doubt sharply increase...some for mistaken reasons.

  4. Looks like 2 connection points at the bottom?

In that case it presses lightly against the all on top and things don't fall through the bottom?

Magazine or paper holder, something like the dailies or a puzzle book for light bathroom reading.

Often seen in upscale European bathrooms many years ago...it was originally intended to hold a folded up newspaper ... IPad might fit there now but it’s just not the same

  5. Jan 10 St Thomas on the Eclipse

Just looked at the shore excursions for our first stop at St Thomas, USVI. Can’t see anything we’re interested in so will likely either stay on the ship or do a walk off into the nearby shops. We are scheduled to be there in a Wed...the busiest Cruise Ship day of the week with up to 6 boats in the harbour at once. The two Docks can apparently handle 5 boats at once so it’s possible we may be tendered ashore.

Reading the latest reviews from folks that just left there, the island is still in very bad shape. One reviewer said that their sightseeing tour was

“depressing”. The Main Street is apparently up and running with most shops now open. Magen’s Bay is open with new restrooms but not much foliage. The Gondola is apparently also open with the shop at the top on Gen power.

This is all info I’ve gleaned from member and others posts so can’t vouch for the accuracy or completeness of anything. Will decide what we’re doing the day we get there.

  6. We too just received an email for a change on Jan 7 Eclipse cruise. The first stop has been changed from St. Maarten to St. Thomas, USVI.

The small amount of info I can find about St Thomas shows the devastation to be similar to St Maarten so can’t understand why that would be chosen as an alternate destination. I can only assume that the industry is having trouble trying to fit all the ships into a reduced number of ports.

Has anyone seen St Thomas recently?
