  1. Planning ahead, normally 1-2 years in advance.

I was working at a non-profit and had 30 days off a year (that's everything, sick, holiday, vacation, just plain don't wanna go in ...) I don't get sick often and many holidays aren't big for us so I worked em, usually having more than enuf days to blow on whatever I wanted - long trips, short trips, lots of time at Christmas, whatever.

Unemployed right now, but, planning ahead ought to take care of it, no matter what the paid time off structure is.

I have a trip to Cabo planned for first wek of Feb and it's non-negotiable - I'm going! I'm trip coordinator and have been planning it since June 2009.

  2. Electronic forums are odd. So many seem to have zero tolerance for things that would never bug them at all in the real world. Maybe not you Beachchick, but many.

I think that in many cases, "You had to be there" to know what your true response would be.

    I can only guess.

  3. I almost hate to admit it. But if the elevator opened and there were a couple of kids sitting at a desk stone faced asking me if I had a reservation........

I'd probably be rolling on the floor laughing so hard I could barely breath. Even the very thought of it has me laughing.

I must admit that I would be tempted to play along.

"Why, Yes, I have an appt with the CEO. Is that you?" pointing to the kid that didn't ask the question, since the other would be receptionist.

  4. wow, kids taking a person's desk? not cool, not funny. Please kids, do not do this! If that had been MY desk, I would have been livid.

I am on the side of elevators being transport only. No games, no riding up and down, just get in, get to your floor, get out. be courteous to others. let others off before you get in. simple stuff. you'd think.

I do not understand people when it comes to wheelchairs. To me, it's simple, it's like giving up your seat on the bus. Really, what super-important thing is happening that makes me unable to wait for the next one? Or taking the stairs?

[ok, sure, when you give up your seat on the bus, you are still ON the bus, but still... ]

kids should always take stairs :)

  5. If you are flying to port, be sure you know the luggage restrictions for your airline. I will never pay to check luggage, so make sure I comply with whatever the rule is for size, weight, number of bags.

You might want to consider how you will spend your time. Will you be dancing until dawn, or lazing at the pool or ...? as that will have much to do with what clothes you wish to take. Be aware that it's unlikely that anyone will notice or care if you wear the same thing more than once.

I take one dress that I wear on both formal nights, using different accessories, and then do mix and match to cover dinner wear, and then a small assortment of casual and workout clothes.

Really, take whatever you're willing to haul on board but be aware that you might have way too much fun to bother getting around to all those outfits. Definitely take 2 bathing suits.

two of my best friends were truckers and I still have a cousin in the biz! You are quite deserving of a cruise, let someone else do the driving for a change!!!

  6. What has shoes got to do with being a diabetic? Confused in the UK!

diabetes can have many complications, but it's pretty standard to have slower healing time for any cut or surgical incision, etc. Also, there can be lessened feeling in the extremities (neuropathy, I think?), so a diabetic might not know that he's cut his foot on a shell. Given an already compromised immune system, an untreated injury can be devastating. Sometimes diabetic have to have limbs amputated.

My husband NEVER goes barefoot because of his diabetes. It's easier to prevent an injury than to deal with treating it.

All that said... I hate the shoes with the rubber soles and mesh top because they trap sand in the shoe. I like the cheapo Speedo flip flops that Target sells cheap - the sole is thick enuf to be protective, they are cheap, and sand does not linger on it so less irritation. edited to add - not a between the toes flip flop, but an over the toe dealy that is adjustable.

Crocs would be a good option if the sand flows right thru?

  7. On my last cruise, we had a clear view of the bridge, so they of course had a clear view of us. I wasn't too worried about it, as i wasn't going to be doing any nude sunbathing in Alaska...

even if there are cameras, they would prob'ly be ALL BALCONIES and even if there was a person monitoring, holy crap, that's a lot to keep track of!!!

so I doubt it, but even if they did it, I wouldn't spend any time worrying about it as I doubt anyone would be zeroing in on my boring activities.
