Follow them up 5 minutes later. The staff must surely be used to nervous parents and grandparents - they'll surely tip you the wink, discreetly, that your children have arrived?

I tend to follow my kids (9 and 11). They know that I do this, sometimes, but not always, just to check up on their responsibility! So they are always (I hope) on their best behavior.
