  1. A few other useful info:

I was able to use my credit card or euros everywhere.

The only issue was in Copenhagen where the machine at the train station would not accept my American VISA, fortunately, i also have a European VISA, and this one worked.

The bus 27 at Ocean Pier did not accept foreign currency. The lady gave me a free ride! if you plan on catching the 27 from the pier, make sure you either have DKK or purchase your ticket BEFORE the cruise. I have heard that the 25 accepts foreign currency, however, it doesn't start until 8am.

Thanks for the transportation info. Was there much of a wait to get into the Vasa and was it easy to find your way around the the city?

I came back from the cruise a few days ago and had a wonderful time, even though I was part of the cruise who had weather issue in Warnemunde and didn't get to go to Tallin. Everyone was extremely disappointed and I think NCL could have handled the issue a little better!

Regarding Stockholm, I took the train from Nynashamn to Stockholm. It was extremely easy: bought the ticket at the TI office at the end of the dock and just followed the line to the train station. Nynashamn is the end of the line, so you can't go in the wrong directions: just board the first train and go to Stockholm central. I was a little confused getting out of the station, but I eventually found which way to go to the old town. From there, everything was very easy to navigate. We walked around the old town, visited the armory museum: it is a very nice museum and it was FREE!

Then we took the ferry to go to the Vasa museum. We got there around 12.30 and there were like 5 people ahead of us waiting in line. I was shocked to see no wait!!!

Then we walked back to the train station, it was a lovely walk! (maybe 30-40min)

The train back to Nynashamn was PACKED!!! half the cruise ship was on that train! If you would like to sit on the ride back, I suggest to try catching one of the earlier trains.

We disembarked at 7.30am, right after the announcement had been made. we were not supposed to dock until 8am, so many people were not ready to disembark yet. There was no line anywhere. however, i heard from people who disembarked later that there was quite a line at the TI office. Know that you can also buy your train ticket at the train station.

I'm going in a few weeks. I'm not as awseome as Huntingdon1701, so I won't be posting full details of my trip, but i'll be happy to give more info about Stockholm "on your own" when I come back.

The information I have shared is from a different threads... which, of course, i cannot find anymore!

That thread also mentioned that the train station was about 10-15 min walk from the dock, but there was a shuttle that you could take.

    Edit:

  4. Thank you for your wonderful review.

I don't suppose you noticed if NCL put on a 'transfer only' excursion from Nynashamn to Stockholm.

I know we are definitely docking here and as yet I have nothing organised.

    TIA:cool:

You can catch a train to Stockholm. Others threads have detailed information. Below is what I printed out for myself:

"At the end of the dock is a small TI office. Inside you can purchase a day pass that will cover the train to/from Stockholm + metro/bus in the city + ferry route from Gamla Stan to Djurgarden where the Vasa Musuem is located. There were 2 lines, one for cash and one for credit card. We paid by credit card and were on our way in less than 5 minutes. The cost was 120 SEK pp, ended up being $27.46 on the card. Your also given a paper with how to get to the station with the train times going/coming back. Back outside, you follow the blue line (or yellow, same distance) to the station. You board the waiting train!"

  5. Thanks again for all the info and answering all (mine and everybody else's) questions! You're totally awesome!!

I have been patiently waiting for the Stockholm review! Yeah!!! It has arrived!!!

NCL informed us a few weeks ago already that we will be docking in Nynasham. I've been debating booking a tour vs doing it on my own. I think doing it on my own will allow me to do the Vasa at my own pace and just see how much of the old town as time remains... but maybe your answers can help me with the final decision:

    • were the lines for the Vasa very long?
    • how fast were you able to get off the ship in the morning?
    • did you book with Alla again? How was the tour?
    • Is it easy to navigate around town?

Thanks again for taking the time to share your wonderful experience!

  6. Thanks so much for the detailed review. Looking forward to reading how the rest of your trip went! I'm going on the same cruise in a few weeks. I'm really excited about it!! We've booked the St Petersburg tour with Alla and i'm planning on self touring everything else. I just read about Schwerin castle recently... i didn't really want to travel all the way to Berlin, so i'm real excited about that option. I'll make sure to check out Rostok's cathedral though!

I do have quite a few very practial questions, if you don't mind (haven't cruised in 15 years! i'm a little rusty):

    - how cold/warm is it on the ship? I live in the US and they do love their AC... so i'm always cold! Should i plan on carrying a jacket at all times?

    - how formal do you have to dress for dinner?

    - do you recommend advanced booking for their shows? What show do you recommend? Is their a best night to go see the show?

    - Seems like you enjoyed the restaurant SAvor? Is that mostly because it was less crowded? Any other good options?

    - I imagine the pools are heated, do they also have a hot tub (don't have a spa package)?

    Thanks!
