  1. We are on the Stockholm to Dublin - Baltic Sea & Emerald Isle cruise, July23, 2024 - August 14, 2024. Our cruise is booked as one cruise, but it is actually two cruises, Stockholm to Dublin and Dublin to Dublin. My question is, when we arrive in Dublin at the end of the first leg, will we allowed to stay on the ship, or must we disembark and reembark?

  2. There have been a number of posts concerning pre-boarding testing and embarkation day processes. So I thought I would share our experiences.
We had a negative PCR test 72 hours before leaving ATL on 4/1/2022 to meet the negative testing requirements Oceania suggested as “insurance” in case we tested positive at the pier. We received an email several days before we left for Barcelona that we would be tested at the pier by Oceania.

So here is how embarkation day went. Our boarding time was 11:00 am and we arrived at that time. We then checked in, they requested our boarding passes and passports. We then were sent to the testing station, we’re tested and asked to wait for our results. After about 15 minutes we received our negative results and were provided our Suite key and allowed to board. We were sent to the casino to check out our muster station. We then proceeded to the Terrace Cafe for lunch. Our suite, a PH1, was ready by 1:00 pm, so all in all we were in our suite in about two hours.

Yesterday, we received notification that we were required to have an “in transit” test on 4/14, the day before we arrive in Rome, where the second leg of our cruise begins. Folks that are disembarking in Rome can be tested as well, if needed to return to their home countries.

Some thoughts on the cruise so far, there are about 600 passengers on board, extra reservations in specialty restaurants have been easy to get, food has been great except in the GDR, service has been good, it is obvious that some of the crew is new, but are trying hard to please. Masks are required in indoor spaces and on all transportation.

Several excursions have been cancelled, we missed the port of Alicante, Spain due to high winds and seas and Morocco was cancelled before the cruise began, but Cadiz, Spain was substituted, which is where we are today, 4/12.

If anyone has questions, I will be happy to answer, as I have time.

    Recent experiences:

Immigration Kiosks :   DW and I have both TSA-Pre and Global Entry. DW has "faded" fingerprints and her approvals took about 6 weeks and some follow-up questions after the interview for GE. Last month at our entry at Dulles, DW easily went in via the GE kiosk; I got the dreaded "X" and had to join a queque. - I had left my hat on and had not looked directly at the camera. Lesson Learned: follow the simple directions at the machine!

Visas: Getting ready for trip that includes Brazil where we had been five years ago. Asked and received written confirmation from Brazilian Consulate in D.C. that my 10-year Brazil Visa was still effective even if in an expired U.S. passport as long as I  carried both the new and the expired passports.

Another tip if you have “faded” fingerprints that a Border Agent gave me if you don’t have hand cream. Rub your fingers across you forehead. The oil in your skin will enhance your fingerprints. This has worked for me several times.

  4. The answer is not as simple as one might expect. The following is from Chengkp75, a retired Chief Engineer and a frequent and knowledgable contributor to these boards:

"Opening of the balcony partitions is always at the discretion of the Captain, as to how many and where it is allowed. On some ships, in some cabins, opening the partition will block the balcony door, so its not allowed. There is also the possibility that one of your cabins is in a different fire zone from the other two. Balcony partitions at fire zone boundaries are not allowed to be opened, as this will negate the fire boundary between zones, as was witnessed on the Princess ship that caught fire some years ago."

    Good to know. Thanks.
