  1. Take a taxi (not at the dock, see other posts) head to Old Town. Should be under $10 cab ride--you know you're getting close when the streets get really bumpy and the suspension is about to break. Navigate to Bar le Playa, and enjoy some amazing libations from Alex and company. Good cheap authentic food nearby, lots of trinket shopping, and the beach is a couple minute walk for people watching, more restaurants, and various other shopping. Today I'm wearing a shirt I bought at the bar! I posted pictures on Google Maps. Give yourself time to get back to the dock.

All in all? Go far from where everyone else from the ship will be, and you'll be rewarded.

  2. What's wrong with women from Nevada?

My post was too long describing all the ways, and it got rejected :(

    Kidding.

I did have to import my wife from the Midwest, though, tbh. I've lived here since the 80s.

And I hope by Nevada they meant near Las Vegas, or my post would have been even longer.

Again, kidding... except I've been to Reno and nobody seemed happy.

This has been a fun thread, thanks, all! Good luck finding 'some' of whatever... My main advice? Put down your phone, and use your people skills (I understand that may be a stretch). It will certainly be disarming when you approach without a phone. Everyone expects people to be glued to their devices these days (sure, perhaps a bit less on a ship).

Pocket the phone. Say hi. What's the worst that could happen? I mean, apart from a man/woman from Nevada?

Kidding. Lots of love and shoutouts to all. I'll have my Nevadan beat my ass in the morning when I let her read this. I deserve it.

  3. the issue is definitely the power outlet far away from where you want it... I kept staff out of the room when I had my (safe) extension cord go to the table by the bed... along with phone charging, I had a small tower fan that provided blow and noise. A simple and cheap solution if not provided on board by staff would be a USB battery and flexible fan. That solution is inexpensive, and the battery can charge while you're away (it was my backup option if they ever confiscated the extension cord because of lack of tips). ;)
