  1. Thank you for your input on kids- we (44, 47) are taking out 9.5 and 13 year olds on the cruise from New Jersey to Iceland this summer.   They are very well traveled, but it’s good to hear positive feedback for kids. I am hopeful they might let the 9.5 year old move up to the older group for kids as sea as I think he would have more fun.  We have a lot of sea days and it will be too cold to swim outside. We are also planning on bring an assortment of card and board games.

  2. I feel like once they added the category to search for connecting rooms when booking, rather than having to look at deck plans to figure it out, they started up charging for it. We travel with our family of four, but I refuse to pay an extra $500 to have a door inside rather than walking in the hall so we do normal rather than connecting rooms.

I am locked out of the New York Times article but neither of the other two say that the immunity response from having had the virus is better than the vaccine which is what you originally said. Try again?

You clearly did not follow the conversation and are making a lot of assumptions, the comment was made about someone that cannot take the vaccine due to a preexisting medical condition, not that they have a disability because of COVID.  They are being denied service due to a medical condition.  They are basically relegated to the 5% of slots available.  I have no problem with them asking about vaccine status as again I said nothing about that, only the small percentage who can't take it, that is why we have ADA requirements.

Another thing to consider is those that have had COVID are more immune than anyone with the vaccine, or at least that is what the science is showing.  Again I have no problem asking, I do have a problem with them keeping a database of private medical information of any kind,

Could you please link the science that shows that those that have had Covid are more immune than those with the vaccine?  Because that’s a huge claim to make without anything to back it up.

  5. We can’t get lift and shift to work for us either. We have a two bedroom suite booked over thanksgiving this year.

they will only lift and shift is to the exact suite and of course we can’t get one of those few rooms. We can move to a nonholiday week, but it could be cheaper to just rebook since we paid a premium to sail over a holiday and we can’t pull our kids out of school that long anymore. Ugh.

  6. Hmm. We have a two bedroom suite booked over thanksgiving week on what was supposed to be an amped up allure this Thanksgiving.

we can’t shift to a different week because of the kids school.

The comment of they will shift to a room in the same “category” concerns me.  We booked to have the separate space of two bedrooms and wouldn’t want to pay what we paid to sail in a standard JR suite or grand suite.

but we were planning on canceling because we neither want to sail this year or pay this premium to sail on a non amped allure.

anyone successfully shift a holiday cruise to another holiday week?  Any thoughts on protecting our room type?

  7. We were also on this sailing and I agree with your review almost entirely.

We Struggled with the noise level in the hallways this trip, which have never been a problem in the past.  Large groups of people screaming in the hallways til all hours - and not just New Year’s Eve. I get the occasional noise but with two little kids I was pretty frustrated. Someone also wrote **** on our door with a marker. Nice surprise for my 9 year old.

    This seems kinda promising:

I'm surprised I didn't see in my first search. But yeah, everyone seems to be on the same page that the Kids Camp program is amazing for a potty trained 3 year old.

I HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT: Just make sure he poops in the morning, and let him play with the other kids and hope he just gets a little wet here and there in case he isn't fully potty trained yet. And thanks!

As the parent of a near 6 year old who could be hanging out with your 3 year old in aquanots I am super disgusted you would consider dropping off a non potty trained kid in hopes he just gets a little wet. My kid (and all the others) should not  have to slide down the slides your kid is sliding down covered in pee.

Unles you kid is developmentally delayed in someway, there is no reason they can’t be potty trained by 3. But if you can’t get your kid trained don’t be gross and ruin everyone else’s kids vacation.

I can’t speak to what is more expensive as you will have to research options there.

But as a mom (married almost 25 yrs) of three boys (now 22, 21 and 18) and having been blessed to do a lot of fun traveling and cruises together I will offer one piece of advice.   Once my boys started hitting puberty and even a little before I felt I needed to be much more cognizant of not wearing pjs/lounging clothes without a bra, etc around the house. Your family might be more comfortable with that, but it’s one thing to consider.    My boys never seemed to mind too much about walking around in boxers, lol, but I just felt it was weird for me to walk around like that.   So that may be a thing to consider for your wife.

Maybe ask your son and wife about their privacy concerns. You are the dad and ..ummm....probably more comfortable being in minimal clothing around both. They might feel different.

This is super weird.  Probably one of the strangest, least on topic responses I have read around here.

Her son is 15! Surely the OP has decided if she feels she can go bra less around him.

My kids see more boob at the pool then they do under my pjs.  I pay the mortgage around here. I’m not spending my life wearing a bra 24/7.

  10. Sorry to ask something that comes up all the time but the most recent thread I could find was over a year old

if I want to stay in touch with other passengers on allure the iq messaging (for $8 per user per week) work?  Or if we all have iPhones can we use the I-messaging feature bypass without zoom

we all want to disconnect from home but it would be nice to na able to touch base with each other.

    thanks

  11. one Other thought-  are your kids used to oasis class ships?  Because freedom class ships just don’t have the entertainment and perks of the bigger ships. The shows are much more adult focused than the oasis class, the kids clubs are tiny compared to the larger ships and the lack of amenities for sea days made us decide that while our kids are of similar ages to your we will only sail Oasis class ships in the carribean.

  12. I have one of those will I make my flight questions. You know?  Where everyone says don’t risk it. But this one isn’t on me, it’s on southwest.

I had the perfect flight booked for our allure ft lauderdale departure. Woke up early on the day flights opened and got a great deal. Direct flight to my home location and left at 11:45. Plenty of time to have get through customs after disembarking.

So southwest changed my flight to leave at 9:45. I know it’s too early and I should change it. My next earliest option is anon direct flight that leaves at 3 and will make for a 10 hour travel day.  I hate the FLL airport. There is nothing to do in that airport and I don’t know how to keep my 5 and 9 year old entertained for that long.  The only other direct that day leaves at 8 pm. Maybe then we could do something?  Rent a day room or and excursion or something ?  The flights cost 5X what I pod for my original ticket too, and I don’t know if southwest will make me pay the difference even though it’s their fault I have to change my ticket.  I’m tempted to risk trying to walk off since missing my flight will cost me probably the same as changing it will today.

    gah. I’m so frustrated.

  13. The players:

    4 40ish adults

    2 kids- 5 and 9

no one has ever been to st Martin

    the complication:

we arrive to st Martin on the allure.

the msc seaside will also be there that day

two mega ships =12,000 people onto the island.

our travel companions have never cruised before so we want to show them a good time.

I am am worried about the go to whatever beach and rent a chair with the number of people in port on our date.

    Any suggestions?

    EXTREMELY strict.

aging DOWN is SOMETIMES allowed. aging UP NEVER is.

the only time they combine the clubs is if very few children overall are on board.

On oasis in November we saw this couple throw a giant fit to let their “almost 6 year old” go into the 6-8 group. A manager was called. A discussion was had. It was noted (since her date of birth is on the computer) that almost 6 was actually 4. But RC let her age up since the parents were screaming. So there was this tiny  4 year old playing Gaga ball with my 5 foot tall 8 year 10 month old. The poor kid looked terrified.

  15. Maybe I’m not very nice, but I would say no to this. I don’t want to share a room on a family trip with someone other than my husband. Nor do I want to deal with figuring out who owes what after all these room shifts and canceling things. I would let them figure it out without you sacrificing your vacation.
