Cruise in October, stopping at Halifax and Cape Breton (Sydney). With limited funds for shore excursions, where would you spend your money?
-
Hey guys, OP here. I'm really a novice with the ship communications stuff. I'll take any information that I can get on the subject of ship to shore communications. Wi-Fi, no Wi-Fi. In the end, I need to communicate with family back home and want to know how best to accomplish. I do have limited minutes of Wi-Fi as part of my cruise purchase. I think it is 150 min or so. Everyone that I will need to communicate with will have an IPhone. It sounds like Imessage may leak through and may not. It also sounds like sms will probably go through when Wi-Fi connected. I need to make sure that I don't connect to a cell tower or cruise cell service by turning on Airplane mode. (Kinda getting a mixed reaction to airplane mode). Thanks to all who have replied.

Hi guys, you're on the correct track. I'm curious to know how those change as a cruise gets closer. (Non room upgrades. Internet, photos packages, drink packages...) Right now, I only see a couple of internet package offers and I'm curious if I can expect anything else to show up as we get closer.
-
What is your experience with 'Offer Upgrades' with NCL. I see several in my app now but I am curious if those change frequently or go away completely as I get closer to sailing.
-
Wow, really. I had no idea. So I could text family, not on ship, without using my wifi time?

Hey guys,
It's been a few years since I have cruised, and I will need to be able to communicate with family (back home) while sailing. We will have the limited internet package so I assume that I will be able to email or text while connected. Do you all have any other suggestions or tips that I can try?

Greetings,
I was there last week (6/6/18) and took at Blue Flag Tour on Wednesday morning immediately after they started letting passengers off of the Escape. (8 am ish) Our guide was Ernest (One Leg) Cann. We enjoyed our tour so much that we went out again on Friday morning and specifically sought out Ernest. All in all, I believe that we spent 9 hours with One Leg last week and enjoyed every minute. This fella took us all over the island including many off-road adventures. He was extremely knowledgeable and shared his knowledge freely. I will endeavor to write a review on this in a few days. I just wanted to share that your truly negative experience should not reflect negatively on all Blue Flag drivers in Bermuda. Ours was top notch!

Hello all,
Need some assistance please. Wife and I have 1 checked bag but it weighs more than the 50 pound limit. The NCL website claims to have a weight limit on bags. What is the penalty (LOL) for an overweight bag? Also, it says that there is a 2 item limit per person. Is that 2 checked bags or checked + carry on?
Thanks!!!

Looking to do self-walkoff from Escape. What kind of obstacles can I expect to encounter with my bags? i.e. stairs, escalators, etc...

Ok, looking at recent reviews of debarkation has me wondering about the embarkation process. This will be my first time out of NYC so any intel will be appreciated. What time have they been starting the embarkation process lately? If I arrive at parking at 9:00 and head over to Intrepid until about 12:00, what can I expect when I return to the ship for Embarkation? If I choose to do the Intrepid, should I check in for Escape first?
Thanks in advance!

Looking to park at Port Imperial and ferry across to NYC for our cruise. Will be parked for 16 days. Does anyone have any experience with parking in that garage? Is this a safe location to leave a vehicle?

I've reviewed the maps and zones in the dockyard but they all seem to be private. Where is the public bus stop within the Royal Naval Dockyard?
-
My family of 4 is traditionally a 'morning beach group.'
I suppose that the beach itself is always open; but, what time do the beach rentals / lifeguards begin?
-
Yes AAA members,
May 29 - June 3 2017
4 people in the room. Prefer something bigger than doubles but that will suffice.

Hmm, that's an interesting idea. 1 Ferry ride across and stay in Manhattan. I'll investigate that. Driving up from Tennessee. I threw this idea out there to see if there were any creative ideas that could help. This is exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks!
-
Driving. 2 Adults and 2 Young Adults. (4)
Also, my hotel and parking appear to be about $150 per night cheaper. I think that'll cover the costs.
-
I suppose I'll bus, walk, cab Wed-Fri in Manhattan and take a Statue of Liberty tour on Sat? Suggestions on making this less of a pain in the butt?
-
Stay 8-5 ish.
Good call out on Sat. I'll do something else for Saturday. Is Sat the only reason to consider the light rail?
Looking to do the big ticket items in Manhattan.
-Central Park
-World Trade
-Times Square
-ETC...
I figure I'll divide the city into 3 parts and see 1 section each day. (minimizing overlap as much as possible.)
Certainly open to a bus tour. Have considered the hop on and hop offs.

Sunday departure, so Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat

Hello, I am Claustrophobic to a degree. Mostly can't stand the thought of going underground. Also will not drive into NYC traffic for any reason. Strangely enough, I enjoy cruising. I am looking at staying at Hyatt NJ and taking the ferry over pre-cruise for touring. (4 days) On Cruise day, I plan to have a limo service take me over to MCT. (May have to medicate for this one.) My question is how much trouble am I going to be putting myself through by staying in Jersey for Manhattan touring? (via ferry) Ferry is 2 minute walk from Hyatt. Looks like a 10 minute ferry ride across the Hudson. I'll cab it once on the other side.:o

Hmm,
Reading through the kids program FAQs it appears that 11-12 yrs can check themselves out after 2 hours and teens can come and go as they please. This seems to counter the suggestion that kids under 18 must be supervised at all times.

Great info guys. I thought that you had to be paid in full before they would allow reservations of any sort. Also good info on giving myself a buffer. Thanks!
-
You have to be very careful with the ferry schedules. The Port Imperial to 39th St ferry runs from 6 am to midnight+ Mon-Fri and from 8 am to midnight+ Sat-Sun. The Paulus Hook ferry only runs morning and evening rush hours Mon-Fri
Ahh, I see. Thanks!

Ok thanks. I'll pay at 91 days then so that I am ready for day 90. :)
Where should I spend my money on excursions. (Halifax or Sydney)
in Canada/New England

Sounds like in Halifax, there are a lot of walkable things to do. In Sydney, not as much. In that case, Sydney would probably get the $$$ for an excursion and we'll walk / cab Halifax. Thoughts?
(Oh, and the $ limit isn't a hard limit. Just not wanting to spend big in both places.)
