  1. Thanks everyone. Hope my dentist can fit me in, we leave in 4 days. Kinda aggravated because I was there last week & told him where I thought the problem was & wanted X-rays, but he had other ideas & his diagnosis was incorrect. Oh well, if he can't see me and the pain returns, everyone on the Grandeur will hear the screaming coming from Suite 8500.

I hope they’re able to see you at your dentist! I am on your sailing! [emoji28]

  2. Thanks. Any idea if there will be accessible power near the TV?

I have never been able to access a power outlet behind the tv. I did try to do this whole setup once, and the internet connection was not reliable enough to make the time worth it.

You are able to bring an extension cord/power strip as long as it does NOT have surge protection (can damage ship electronics and become very dangerous)

  3. The prices are constantly fluctuating. I purchased my deluxe beverage package when I booked my newest cruise at $41 + gratuities (18% of total package cost) not on sale. The reason I book it right away is that I check the price about once a week. If the price drops, all you do is cancel the package, and rebook. You will be able to apply the funds from the previously booked package. Now, the deluxe package is “Buy one, get one 50% off,” meaning 25% off each passenger up to two passengers. However, the price is advertised at $42 per day.

That being said, the price more than likely did not change because you have onboard credit in the cruise planner. I had $100 onboard credit, and my price per day was less when I had the onboard credit.

  4. This question is really dependent on the drink, and the answers will vary from person to person. Personally, I find that it is not so much the brand of alcohol used which changes the taste, but more the ratio of alcohol to non-alcohol. You and your wife will most likely find little consistency in how a drink is prepared from bartender to bartender. If you are looking for a drink that the bartenders use less alcohol, I would recommend going to the pool bar. This is not always the case, but I’ve found they water the drinks down more at this bar, rather than the smaller bars across the ship.

However, getting back to your question, there are some drinks that I will use a specific brand of rum. For example, a Malibu Bay Breeze, I only will use Malibu coconut rum.

    Hope this helps!

  5. Hi all,

I'm trying to make a booking on a cruise and we're past final payment date. How in the world do I split the payment over two credit cards? When I get to the payment screen it only gives me the option to pay the full amount - which is in excess of my credit limit. I have all the cash in my accounts and can do it over two cards, but clicking on the "pay amount" button doesn't let me reduce the amount to apply to the card which I'm putting details in for.

    Any ideas my good friends???

Payment over the phone will be your only option unfortunately. They will be more than happy to help you to split across as many cards as you need to!

  6. As Host Clarea said, as long as deposit is made, you are protected. I do strongly recommend trip insurance, but not for any reason other than that things do happen in personal lives. Royal Caribbean does sometimes (very rarely) have an issue with price changing on a reservation if you make any sort of change to the reservation, but if you call them, and can provide documentation showing the original pricing, they will fix it. Have a wonderful time on your cruise!

  7. Hello Everyone, I have a question regarding check in at the pier before embarkation. I am a Platinum Member with Royal Caribbean, and I am sailing with my friend, who has never sailed on a cruise before. He joined the Crown and Anchor society as a new member. At check in, they have the different lines for General, Gold, Platinum, Emerald, etc...

Does anyone know if my friend would be able to join me in the Platinum Member line, or if we would have to go to the general line/check in separately?

  8. Yep better save that $14 on a week long cruise.

For some, every penny counts. I wanted to make sure I was booked under the lower gratuity cost, as the tips are not evenly distributed, and I give cash to the employees that really stand out. I’m sorry you woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning...

  9. Does RCCL give OBC for retired military, if so how do you apply for it?

Unfortunately, Royal Caribbean does not offer OBC for active duty or retired military. On select sailings, they offer discounts to military, police, and fire personnel. You will need to have proof of service at the pier. Thank you for your service!

  10. Are you based in the US or Canada? When we book with Air2Sea, we get exactly the flights we book. The airline may change them occfasionally, like all flights get changed, but not very different for us.

I’m US based. On most of the trips, I was given the flights I selected. However, on my latest sailing, my flights were completely off.

  11. Hello,

I know the somewhat new rule the brought back of everyone in the room has to buy the drink package. I am traveling with a toddler which obviously doesnt get it but my mom is going to help watch my child and she does not drink at all. Is there any way of my wife and i buying the package and not my mother in same room?

Hello, my friend in a different cabin was recently in a similar situation. His friend wanted to buy the drink package, and he does not drink due to personal reasons. They told him he was going to have to buy the “refreshments package” which includes all non-alcoholic beverages for about $26/day (on sale).

  12. Hi,

We originally booked a gs on explorer...we saw rfs was available so reserved it at a certain price, my dad then decided to join us so we rang ta and got him on booking. We sail feb 12 and my dad has really declined mentally and physically and we think its best he doesnt sail. I rang ta this morning and they sid that the cabin may be repriced, can they do thi as we originally reserved it just for the two of us at a certain price? Ta said they may not get to it today as they are busy

I am sorry to hear about the decline in health. It is most likely your ta’s rule. With every cruise booking, they get commission, which comes with the work they do to assist in setting up the cruise. The more people in the cabin(s), the higher the commission amount. So, if they were planning on getting $100 commission, and now they’re going to be getting $75, they may try and retain their expected profits. I am not saying it’s the most ethical thing, but it’s possible.

If you find out it’s going to be more for the overall cruise, finish making final payment (if not done already), when it’s time to do the online check in, do the online check in for all the travelers that will be sailing, and then do not do the check in for your father. When you get to the pier on the day of sailing, tell them he was unable to attend the cruise, and they’ll refund the port fees and taxes for his cruise portion.

  13. You may have better luck booking double occupancy, even using your husbands information, or you can enter a fake name, date of birth and all. When you’re paying for single occupancy, you pay 200% of the cruise fare. So, it could be less expensive to book double occupancy and never have the second passenger show up. After final payment is made, tell the cruise line that they cannot go anymore, and they’ll refund the port fees on that 2nd passenger. Just don’t complete online check in for that “passenger” [emoji5]

  14. I purchased the Refreshment Package for my upcoming Feb cruise. If I wanted to do an "adult" frozen drink occasionally, would they charge me $7 for the shot of rum or the full $12 or $13 for the drink?

They charge the full $12-13 on the drink. The refreshment package is for all non-alcoholic beverages

  15. Unfortunately, the Grandeur does not have a bungee trampoline. It has a rock climbing wall, two shuffleboard stations and i believe 2 ping pong tables. I hate to say this, the Grandeur is not one of the child friendliest ships. It is a great ship for a first time cruiser, and great if you enjoy a smaller ship (or if you have a drink package!)

It was a nice ship (a little on the older end), but it didn’t stop me from booking again. I can’t wait for my cruise on her in February

  16. I am a firm believer that an ocean view cabin is suitable. I’ve had balconies and ocean views on several trips, and Alaska is definitely one I was glad to have a balcony. However, an ocean view is much more affordable. Whatever suits your needs!
