I am a bit confused with the temporary cancellation policy by Viking. Our trip to China is/was scheduled for October 2020 but I sent a request to cancel by certified mail to Viking which was received on March 2nd. I did not purchase the trip cancellation  policy but as we are more than 120 days out we should be entitled to return of our funds less $100p/p. This would have been our first travel experience with Viking. Should I be concerned about receiving the balance of the funds paid?

As long as you are more than 120 days out you can cancel for refund and pay only a fee of $100 per person.  Read your Viking Summary and this info is included toward the end of it.  This applies to all Viking cruises.

Jim has convinced me to just relax and not worry about this.  I'm on a 15 day cruise.

WE were on a 21 day cruise and at breakfast, the World Café was begging cruises to give Chef's Table a try.  Manfredi's was easy to reserve more than 1 reservation.  Relax and enjoy.  One time I just wanted to go into Manfredi's for coffee and key lime pie (my favorite) toward the end of dinner.  They asked if I would like them to prepare it for room service and I agreed that would be great.  Less than 15 minutes later, my treat arrived - they included 2 pieces of pie and lots of coffee and I enjoyed it all on our balcony.  That's service!

  3. We will be arriving in Oslo and will travel from Oslo to Bergen on the train to begin our Homelands cruise.  Do you recommend that we also take the excursion in Eidfjord - Scenic Flam Railway?  A 40 minute section of the train ride, from Myrdal to Voss, will be a repeat if we also take the Scenic Flam excursion.  Please share pros and cons for doing both.  Thanks.

  4. WE are starting on Oslo and taking the train to Bergen to begin our Homelands cruise.  Do you recommend that we also take the Flamsbana train ride when we are in Eidfjord?  Are the 2 train rides so different that you recommend us to take both?  Thanks.  I have made notes while scrolling such informative info on the excursions for Homelands.

Since we will only have a long flight one direction here's hoping the cost will be 1/2 of your round trip cost. Thanks for the info!

I have heard that on some airlines you cannot upgrade from  economy class.  We have been able to upgrade on American, Delta and KLM but not sure what airlines won't let you upgrade.  Just letting you know so you can ask first when using air plus to make sure you can upgrade.

As it turn out I still know the Harbourmaster at Port Metro Vancouver and have just had a long chat with him regarding Viking Orion's arrival on May 26th.

Thanks Heidi13 for getting this Information for us cruisers who will be embarking in Vancouver.  I ended up doing the pre-excursion in Vancouver as it came close to the same cost if we did it on our own.  I will definitely be worth the upcharge for VO to take care of all the details to get us on the Orion on embarkation day.  And an additional thanks for adding so much good information on the Viking Sky problems.
