Thought I'd provide an update on the new SDP 111 from our recent cruise.

Just off the Encore (1/22 through 1/29).

I had 3 nights of specialty dining reservations. Each evening was started with our waitress scolding us that we could "ONLY" order 1 appetizer, 1 entree' and 1 dessert. Each night I explained that we were Platinum and we paid for the SDP and UDP 6 months prior to the cruise and that we didn't think it was very fair for NCL to go in and update their website 2 weeks prior to our cruise and restricting what we could order off the menu (without formal notification), not to mention that we didn't feel we should be penalized for ordering a few more apps during our meal.

First and second night we were warned and scolded but I told the waitress we would be ordering a few apps (more than 1). Both nights, no added fees; Cagney's and Le Bistro.

3rd night. Severe scolding at Ocean Blue. Offered my opinion and feelings once again. Warned us we would be charged. Our party of 3 were charged for 3 extra appetizers (we each ordered 2 very small appetizers, 1 entree, 1 dessert), albeit the appetizer portions at all 3 restaurants have been severely downsized, adding insult to injury.

The specialty dining options are really what brought us to NCL back in the early 2000's. Sadly NCL's monetary and most recent policy changes regarding the specialties are pushing us to spend our hard earned cruise money somewhere else. I think it might be a good time to for us to go back to MSC and Celebrity.

Sidenote: The cuts to the entertainment on board were extremely noticeable as were the increased "convenience" fees... 🙂

    Hi,

is there also some limitation in ordering sides and sauces at Cagney's?

  2. Hi all,

I have booked a latitude insider offer through a TA last week. But they created, by mistake, a new latitude number for me at NCL.

The TA already requested to merge my two accounts, but this can take up to 28 days according to NCL Agent.

What will happen with my latitude bonus (50$ onboard credit + double points)? I think this only counts for existing customers and not for my new NCL account.

The NCL Agent told me that they can only help after the account merge. Should I cancel and rebook? Do you think they can fix it?

  3. .... In the mens' area, there is a heated tub and a cold plunge. I didn't check out the ladies area. There are two side rooms with chairs, ottomans, a TV, and more great aft views. Those side areas are not segregated by sex and generally were nice and quiet.

    Enjoy your cruise.

    Hi,

why are there seperate men and women areas? Are they clothing optional?

  4. Self service soda fountain machines at the buffet and not only the strange „juices“/iced tea. It‘s not nice to first get the food from the buffet, search a table and then go back to the bar to get the beverages. In the meantime the food is cold.

Same for the pool area. I dont‘t like to stay 10 minutes at the cocktail queue to get a pesi or beer.

80s Party in the Spice H2O area on Getaway. The H2O on the Getaway has no pool, only a waterfall. But the waterfall is more refreshing than the warm/hot pool water on the Epic.

The H2O is a relaxing area during the day, so don’t expect any loud music or party mood there till 10 pm.

  6.

The bottled soda vending machine sat completely empty the entire transatlantic cruise this past November. A crew member said he thought they gave up on it as nobody was buying any.

Last July, the vending machine in the studio lounge was also empty, but there is another one in a „vending machine room“ on the 10th floor in the middle of the studio cabines.

You can pay with your room card.

  7. Hi,

I‘m a newby in the crusing business ;), I cruised once on the Epic last summer and I enjoyed it. The whole week we had about 30 C. The most people spent the whole sea day and time around the excursions on the pool deck.

Now, I‘m interested in a baltic cruise on the Breakaway and just wondering what the people do on cold sea days. Does NCL offer more inside entertainment? Is it much crowded inside the ship?

  8. Hi,

I was on the Epic in July and the tender reservation was very chaotic. You can sign for a letter from A-Z, but they won't tell you which time does it mean. They startet at 6:45 am to call all with letter A-C, but almost the whole ship was still sleeping at this time and they finished with the reservation Z at about 08:00

I went to the tenders at 09:00 and it was no problem to get a place at this time.

So what I want to say, only if you need to ensure that you can leave very early at around 7:00, then sign for letter A. Everything else is a lottery.

    Regards
