We just did our first HAL cruise in June on the Veendam from Boston to Bermuda. We are seasoned cruisers having more than 30 Carnival and RCCL cruises under our belt. We wanted to enjoy the smaller ships and decided to try HAL - we opted for an oceanview on the Lower Prom and were not disappointed. In fact, the cruise was one of the best we've ever been on. We are going to try the Rotterdam in March and this time we decided on a Lanai cabin - we love this teak deck and were wondering if they are on all Hal Ships.

Hello everyone - we will be on the Veendam June 16 Bermuda Cruise. Does anyone know which deck you enter and exit the ship from while docked in Hamilton. Wondering if it is through the Atrium or is it from deck one at the bottom of the ship? Thank you.

We just booked the Veendam Boston to Bermuda yesterday - am looking forward to trying a smaller ship. Can't wait.

We are driving down from Maine to sail the Sunshine on Wednesday! We have snagged an aft wrap (7th floor) on a casino bounce back! We are so excited - have been reading alot of negatives and your review just reinforced the cruise for me! I will always have fun!!!! Can't wait to board her next week!

So excited - leave on the Sunshine next Wednesday!

You will find October might be warm (probably not warm enough! Nights could get chilly but my bet would be nights will be COLD especially at sea. It could snow - it probably won't. Bring warm clothing - won't need swimsuits!
Yes they will take US dollars -
Have fun - expect the unexpected and you will be fine... oh yes.... fog... well that's another worry - and so would be rain and sleet.
-
If you arrive after 10:30 you will not have to wait long. I would ask my travel agent how many times she has sailed out of NYC.
-
and have never had a cruise cancelled. It is rare that an entire cruise would get cancelled. I personally would not worry about it. If it is a worry for you - please check into purchasing insurance.
-
We were offered a free inside cabin - we upgraded to a Vista Aft Wrap Balcony for $350 per person -- INCREDIBLE deal! Can't wait to saill from NYC again!
-
We sail the Sunshine in 30 days out of NY
-
October can be warm (read warm as maybe 60 -70 degrees) - it is always cooler at the coast - so assume something in the 50's - at night - cooler - now Canada is further north - so it's going to be cooler as well - good luck!
-
I enjoy reading the reviews .... we are very laid back and don't worry about waiting in lines or the fact there are others on the ship with us - they are basically small cities at sea - the important thing for us is having a quiet place to escape to which is why we love our balcony cabins.
We hit the jackpot for this cruise as I received a bounce back from the casino on our March cruise - while looking for a cruise I knew we wanted to sail from NYC - one of my favorite ports - and I knew we wanted a balcony - I was so lucky - I was able to snag an aft vista wrap around! We can't wait to board the Sunshine!

Try your luck on a 3 or 4 start hotel at a price you think is reasonable - and head to Miami!

We are just now having weather in the 70's here in Maine - in fact - it was down into the 40's last night - we haven't had much heat yet and truth is you won't get much out to sea so BRING warm clothing as well as summer. Good luck using your bathing suit - hope the ship has a retractable roof!
-
It is only in the 50's here in Maine today and Canada is much cooler - we haven't had much of a spring and the temperature is pretty slow to warm up - much colder at the coast and even colder at sea - BRING warm clothing!
-
We can save our money and order a Steakhouse steak in the dining room - much cheaper for us. I will NOT pay $35 per person to put up with small children.
-
We have had an exceptionally cool/cold spring here in Maine - in fact here it is Memorial Day Weekend and we are wondering if we are going to get into the 70's. The Maine coast can be 10-20 degrees cooler than inland so make sure you bring something warm to fall back on if needed.
-
Have never had an aft, but scored this aft wrap quite by accident for our upcoming August Cruise - We can't wait to see it - I do hope we like it!
-
You will get off the ship and basically be in the "Old Port" section, lots of shopping and pub/bar areas to enjoy. If you want a fresh Maine lobster dinner - DiMillio's Restaurant is close by - it is a ship - a floating restaurant and their food is incredibly good.
Portland Headlight is an option and is often dubbed "the most photographed" lighthouse in the world. You are only a short ride to Walker's Point - the Bush Family compound (beautiful to see).
There are many small restaurants/eateries in the Old Port and you will find they all sell Lobster Rolls.
-
we had terrible bar service in the Casino - even sitting at tables ---- could not easily get a server - long wait from order to delivery - even tipping well didn't help - must have been short staffed.
-
cruise on the Conquest - can't believe I was able to get an aft wrap on the Sunshine for August 17th - we are on deck 7 - can't wait!
-
When we order room service I put the dishes back on the tray and stack them onto themselves, put the trash in the top plate and put the covers back on them - we then leave them on the table or counter of our room - our cabin steward takes care of them the next time he is through our room. Some folks leave such messes! I have actually watched a lady open her cabin door, take her tray down the hall and leave it outside some random door! Unbelievable!
-
Tried to book the following week as well - that is the Journey's cruise - it is totally sold out and I find there is a waiting list - thought we could make our cruise into a BtoB but no luck!
-
willing to let you print your documents on their internet package - I have helped folks by letting them access the airlines website on my last two cruises - i noticed as I signed out to leave others were doing the same thing - It's nice to share!
I'm in a Panic!!

We sailed the Veendam in June. We usually sail Carnival, RCCL, Princess and we wanted something different, we want something "Old Style" all I can say is WE LOVED our cruise. Everything on the Veendam was perfect. We had absolutely no problems. We sailed from Boston to Bermuda for the week and it was magical. In fact, we loved it so we're now booked on the Rotterdam, can't wait, sailing in March and am honestly trying to figure out how to slip another cruise in between now and March.
We are experienced cruises with more than 30 cruises under our belt, If you want your cruise to be wonderful, it will be, you go with the flow.
By the way, the food, oh gosh the FOOD was incredible. Enjoy and have fun!
